I am someone who scrolls socials a lot, and I know what you may be thinking, but no, not those socials. I don't use Facebook, I've deleted it many years ago from a piece of very good advice given to me by a Redditor and honestly, I've never looked back and considering what I've been hearing about it in recent years I'm pretty sure I've made the right decision. Now this is not something for everyone, of course, some people need it for their careers in terms of connections, etc, and some may need it to keep in touch with friends and family in this day and age where calling someone only happens if the most horrific thing has occurred and texting is just stupid when you can text on whatsapp or discord for free.
I personally didn't stay much in contact with my school friends, it wasn't particularly because of me, in a sense that I was the one ghosting them all or that they really disliked me and ghosted me (or at least I hope that's not the case), but I think most of them didn't really stay in touch except for the few who maybe still live in close proximity to each other. While I do have some of their phone numbers and get the occasional happy bday messages we've just drifted apart, maybe we'll meet up again at our second reunion in a few years but it's not like we stayed that close. This was something that made it a lot easier to ditch Facebook for me so I can understand that for others it might be that which keeps them there.
I do however check other socials, such as Reddit and Twitter. What a coincidence that @poshtoken covers both, huh? With Reddit I don't really have any regrets, the amount of information and good engagement in the comments has been quite golden for someone like me when it comes to my interests which are quite easy to filter when using it properly. I remember when I tried to get my friends to check it out and they said something along the lines of "quite boring, it's mostly about American's" etc, and they didn't bother looking for and subscribing to subreddits that would make their feed a lot more interesting rather than only checking the trending or hot section at the time. It's a bit similar with many users who come to Hive I reckon, especially those without Reddit or any Crypto knowledge, I don't think they'd get far even if they get past the lousy account creation we currently have in place for users completely inexperienced with crypto. That's also a big reason why I've been focusing on communities with @ocd and why I'd want to shift focus with onboarding towards them, possibly onboarding whole communities at a time rather than users one at a time and hoping they'll stick around enough to figure communities out.
Either way, I'm already sidetracking from what this post was gonna be about, but I wanted to give you a pretext that for someone who does what I do on the daily, browsing these socials is kind of a necessity for me. You may already know by my Twitter activity that it's mainly concerning Hive and I like to try and look for relevant tweets to mention why Hive would be a better choice, etc, but I like doing that in general and if it helps some people bother to check it out and them having a better time here than they would've had without that knowledge then it's a win-win for everyone involved. Hive's pretty good at those win-win's with some cases it going to quadruple if not quintuple wins.
Reddit is kind of my "fun" social, though, I browse it at least once per day and there are quite often things that stand out I'd want to share and write down my thoughts about. I've been thinking this could be a nice way to also continue posting and staying consistent with that and my following besides all the other things I do on Hive. One thing I dislike about Reddit nowadays is that they're very "anti-source" and things that people used to shit on Facebook in the past (content creators stealing, slightly adjusting content from Youtube/others would make ad revenue money for it) are kind of doing the same thing now since it's mostly a "sharing" platform with very little original content. This leads to users copy-pasting content and uploading it onto Reddit's own image/video hosting services, removing any and all ad revenue income the original author would've gotten had they just linked to his youtube for instance in the Reddit post and at the same time not even paying the sharer anything. It's quite a fuck you to any consumer and user but quite normal #web2 things. Twitter is at least considering sharing ad revenue with creators now like the rest do and while Reddit may be introducing crypto to their subreddits in the near future, what fairness can one really expect from a platform doing this today? In many subreddits they don't even allow the sharer to link to the source in the comments because god forbid if someone follows their Youtube or Instagram channel and stays there and forgets to get back to Reddit.
So with that in mind, I may instead make compilations of Reddit videos/images/gifs I stumble on throughout the day I to instead upload them to youtube or @threespeak, and post about them here instead of giving Reddit more traffic when their platform has become the way it is.
For today, though, I wanted to talk a little about what Charlie talks about in his video:
It brings back some memories of when a popular Twitch streamer would lie about streaming in the Gym and get in trouble with the employees working there who had to keep telling her it was against the rules. I feel like this is something that should be universal cause it's quite a stupid thing to do in my opinion. The gym is a place to go and work out, like, that's it, it's like when you hit the shower or go sit in a Sauna, you go there for a reason. With streaming becoming more and more popular it's like these streamers think it's okay that what happens there is alright to share with the whole world. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those Karens that starts screaming "stop filming me" in public because in public you usually just sit somewhere or walk, it's nothing special about it so there's no reason to get upset about someone around you filming unless that person for some reason is specifically filming you on purpose. This is a gym, though, you're sweaty, you're in weird positions sometimes, you're there to do what you're doing. You're not there to be in someone's background shot of their stream with who knows how many people/weirdos/stream snipers - don't even get me started on stream snipers.
I get that there sometimes are some weirdo's in the gym as well and I've watched quite a lot of freak out moments on Reddit where some women or men had to take their phone out and start recording cause someone else in the gym was acting weird/starting shit, at that point it's fine to start filming, but not something you should be doing constantly as a routine. Just work out at home if you have to document your whole training session in film with the world. I'm not trying to defend anyone in particular here, I also think it's super stupid for men or women if they stare at others for whatever reason, as said you go to the gym to work out, not sit and daydream or try and find a date, go somewhere else for that or wait til both of your gym sessions are over if you wanna try start a discussion with someone.
Instead, we now have countless streamers filming their whole gym time and expecting others to be cool with it, some of them may be staring at you because of your obnoxious streaming in a gym dummy. With so many streaming, all competing in the same category probably it's to no surprise that some of them are grasping at straws trying to make others look like stalkers/starers/weirdos to make themselves look better or get some attention to their clips being shared around in social which all of course equals to more views/followers/etc on their streaming channels at the cost of completely alienating some random person at the gym who in most cases wasn't even doing anything weird as shown in the examples in Charlie's video. Let's not even mention the weirdos who may be watching the stream, know the streamer's name, can deduct what gym they go to and could easily find out who the person is the streamer was trying to wrongfully alienate for some clout. We don't need gyms to be a place where you have to be fearful of going because there may be streamers there recording you.
Gyms should not allow streaming or in general recording altogether as they may just upload it afterwards. I remember when clubs started banning google glass (which luckily never became a thing) before it was even released cause they realized how unsettling it would be for someone to constantly be able to record anything he looks at in a place where people wanna go and have a good time. Not the best comparison maybe but gyms should also be a place where people are to expect some privacy from the internet.
Anyway, not sure what community I should post these into and how often I may post about this in the future so guess they'll just go to my blog for now.
