Hoy dándole una pequeña pausa a la historia que venía relatando en mis post anteriores, haré un salto a finales del año 2019 y les hablaré sobre mi último recital antes de la crisis del COVID-19. En este post podrán apreciar y aprender un poco más sobre el oboe, su sonido, parte de su repertorio y por supuesto, como lo interpreto.
Today giving a little pause to the story that I was telling in my previous posts, I will make a jump at the end of 2019 and I will tell you about my last recital before the COVID-19 crisis. In this post you will be able to appreciate and learn a little more about the oboe, its sound, part of its repertoire and, of course, how I interpreted it.
A lo largo de mi carrera he realizado una gran cantidad de conciertos solistas y recitales, bien sea solo, con mi quinteto, o compartido con distintos colegas. En esta ocasión fue un recital netamente de oboe, donde participaron muchos colegas oboistas, desde los mas pequeños (donde participaron varios de mis alumnos) tocando canciones sencillas, hasta los que llevan mas tiempo con el instrumento interpretando algunas de las obras mas complejas para el mismo.
Throughout my career I have performed a large number of solo concerts and recitals, either alone, with my quintet, or shared with different colleagues. This time it was a purely oboe recital, where many oboist colleagues participated, from the youngest (where several of my students participated) playing simple songs, to those who have spent the longest time with the instrument performing some of the most complex works for the same.
En dicho recital interpretariamos el primer libro de estudios para oboe de Gilles Silvestrini, un oboísta y compositor francés que escribió estos 6 estudios para oboe solo en 1997, basándose en pinturas de los artistas Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro, Auguste Renoir, Eugène Boudin y Edouard Manet. Cada estudio tiene el nombre de la pintura a la que hace referencia, y busca a través de su música hacer que estos dos maravillosos artes se unan y expresen una misma idea. Aquí podrán apreciar cada una de estas increíbles pinturas:
In this recital we performed the first oboe etude book by Gilles Silvestrini, a French oboist and composer who wrote these 6 oboe etudes only in 1997, based on paintings by the artists Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro, Auguste Renoir, Eugène Boudin and Edouard Manet. Each studio has the name of the painting to which it refers, and seeks through its music to make these two wonderful arts come together and express the same idea. Here you can appreciate each of these incredible paintings:
I - "Hôtel des Roches noires á Trouville" Claude Monet (1870)
II - "Potager et arbres en fleurs
Printemps, Pontoise" Camille Pissaro (1877)
III - "Boulevard des Capucines" Claude Monet (1873)
IV - "Sentier dans les bois" Auguste Renoir (1874)
V - "Scéne de plage - Ciel d'orage" Eugène Boudin (1864)
VI - "Le ballet espagnol" Edouard Manet (1862)
En esta ocasión yo interprete el estudio número 6 "Le ballet espagnol", uno de mis favoritos y que para mí es de los que más expresa la pintura en su música, ya que como pueden ver, esta pintura posee la compañía española que bailaba en ese momento en el Hipódromo de París.
On this occasion I interpreted etude number 6 "Le ballet espagnol", one of my favorites, which is for me one of the most expressive of painting in its music. As you can see, this painting is owned by the Spanish company that danced in that moment at the Hippodrome in Paris.
Esta música tiene la ligereza como característica principal, para mi con un poco de drama, pero con muchísimo virtuosismo y un gran acento español, en este caso para oboe solo, pero unas castañuelas no le vendrían nada mal. Aprecienlo ustedes mismos:
This music has lightness as the main characteristic, for me with a bit of drama, but with a lot of virtuosity and a great Spanish accent, in this case for oboe solo, but some castanets would not hurt. Appreciate it yourselves:
Fue un grandísimo reto, estos estudios son requisito de admisión en algunos de los conservatorios más prestigiosos del mundo, pero con muchísimo esfuerzo y disfrute lo sacamos adelante, además, fue un lindo compartir con los mas pequeños. Que te hagan saber que eres una referencia y un ejemplo a seguir para muchos de ellos te carga de una gran responsabilidad que asumí con mucha felicidad y orgullo.
It was a great challenge, these etudes are an admission requirement in some of the most prestigious conservatories in the world, but with a lot of effort and enjoyment we made it go ahead, it was also a nice sharing with the little ones. That they let you know that you are a reference and an example to follow for many of them make you feel with a big responsibility that I assumed with happiness and pride.
Hoy día me encuentro sin poder tocar con mi orquesta, con mi quinteto, sin poder hacer recitales o conciertos solistas por las razones que todos conocemos del virus. Sin embargo, me encuentro preparándo muchísimos proyectos para cuando acabe todo esto y aprovecho de compartir algunas de mis experiencias con todos los que me leen en esta maravillosa comunidad, así que espero lo hayan disfrutado tanto como yo al relatarselos. ¡Los espero en mi próximo post!
Today I find myself unable to play with my orchestra, with my quintet, without being able to do recitals or solo concerts for the reasons we all know about the virus. However, I find myself preparing a lot of projects when this is over and I take advantage of sharing some of my experiences with everyone who reads me in this wonderful community, so I hope you enjoyed it as much as I told you.
