I was posting with a fellow Steemian today who bought NEO but had some misconceptions about it. We got into posting back and forth and I shared what I know about it. I assumed everyone in crypto knew about NEO but I was wrong. So I thought I would put a post together on what is my absolute favorite holding.
NEO is often referred to as the Chinese Ethereum. China is a somewhat closed society when it comes to business and communication. For example, there is no Facebook in China.
China and NEO have had an ongoing relationship of cooperation. A few months ago, China placed a temporary ban on all ICO's. Prior to the ban, NEO founder Da Hongfei stated that “Before they started cleaning up the market, I was asked for information and suggestions.” Da also strongly supported the governments regulations on the ICO market, stating that a “vast majority of ICO projects… were fakes and fraud.”
This relationship was made even stronger when China lifted the ICO ban. The new regulation was that all ICO’s in China must go through NEO.
They currently have a total of 22 dApps either live on or scheduled for their platform. A shout out to @pandorasbox for breaking that news to steemians! I believe 2 are live and 20 are in the pipeline. Yes, there will be more to come.
NEO allows well known programming languages to be used so programmers do not have to learn a new language. This means that dApps will get developed much quicker without having to learn a new programming language. NEO currently allows C#, VB.Net, F#, Java, and Kotlin. They have plans to allow C, C++, Golang, Python and JavaScript.
There has been speculation that NEO and Microsoft have a partnership. I cannot confirm this but there have been many press releases to show they have some collaboration together.

While you wait for your investment in NEO to appreciate, you can receive GAS as a dividend which will go up or down with the value with NEO. Some exchanges may allow you to accumulate the GAS. Other exchanges do not. You can always earn GAS if your NEO is in your wallet. These are available on the NEO website.
