Michael David Talks Food #2
So you can keep up, here is the first post in this series about food.
The 50 Cent Meal Part 1
Ok, first of all the pic is not the 50 cent meal. It's related some. I just don't have pics of what I do to illustrate it so I used a stock photo.
If you remember from the first post in this series here I started this topic about feeding the world
I have not strayed from that topic.
The 50 cent meal is about feeding the world.
To start, it's only 50 cents here in the USA. It would be much cheaper somewhere else.
In fact, in the USA today, May of 2023, you can make this meal for less than 50 cents in many cases.
The idea behind this is feeding ourselves for stupid cheap. Stretching what we have to maximize it's potential.
Now, I didn't come up with this concept. Poor, primitive, frugal, conservative, and just plain smart people have been doing something like this for thousands of years.
I was originally inspired to learn this path from my parents.
When it comes to nutritionally feeding a lot of people on essentially no money, my parents were masters.
They likely don't know I actually picked up any of it.
Flavor was sometimes another story as it usually took a backseat to nutrition and filling the belly.
Having 6 kids...
all but one were boys...
on less than a shoestring budget...
occasionally our food growing up could get a little bland.
I intend to show how to use as little as only salt, if that is all you have, to keep the flavor profile strong as well.
My parents perfected the 10 cent meal.
Yup, 10 fucking cents and you have a full belly. Nutritional enough to keep a pile of boys going. This 10 cents can still be achieved in America today in 2023.
My parents were born in 1937 and 1938 respectively. They were Great Depression babies. Knowing ways to stretch what you have was just a way of life for them.
A necessaty.
When they told me about the 10 cent meal they perfected I was amazed at how stupidly simple it really was.
I aim to surpass their 10 cent meal eventually. My goal is the 1 cent meal.
So far I can show you the 50 cent meal and if you follow along on my journey I'll show you how to have moderately healthy food to fill bellies for almost nothing.
How you source your ingredients will determine how beneficial and how cost effective your version of what I show you will be.
I have a reason for sharing this.
I want people to eat.
I want people to know how to eat even when money is hard as hell.
When I learned this it was a gift. It was a gift that has been able to keep my family fed during some immensely rough times.
I want to give this gift to as many people as can benefit from it.
Knowing this has actually saved my family, and maybe it can save someone else.
So...
If you want to learn to be more frugal...
If you're struggling to feed yourself...
If money is a lot of what is stopping you from having consistent food...
If you have at least some way to cook...
What I'll share can help you starting right now today.
You eat an elephant one bite at a time so this is my first step in feeding the world.
To be continued...
