Aquaponics update
There are a lot of things happening, a lot of projects and the potato project is one of those that is a bit of a care baby. Now I have the opportunity because the heat in the house did something. I didn't peel the potatoes for some time and when I was checking the sacks I got a nice present.
Potato to throw away? or...
I wsn't eting potaoes for some time just eating something else. I didn't want to peel the potato's. In the netherlands it is like summer now and the sun is shining a lot, with as result the potatoes went bad or... is this a chance to kickstart the potato project again.
Choose the right ground to grow your vegetables in.
Today you can't just buy a bag of ground and grow food in it. Today the ground is contaminated with all sort of stuff so don't get sick pay extra for your ground. You can reuse it, I know that you cant use the ground time after time again for potatoes so I have a solution for that. The first time you use the ground for potatoes. After the potato harvest you use it for another vegetable and after that put it in your compost container. Yes I still have the compost container and I'm just trowing everything compostable in it.
How to grow potatoes.
I bought a big pot some time ago to grow potatoes in, it's like a 5 liter bucket. I used that and filled the pot to 1 third with the ground I bought. I put 2 potatoes at each side and filled the bucket with 1 third of ground. Then I put another 2 potatoes at each side but 90 degrees of the already potted potato. Now you fill the rest of the bucket with ground I didn't have manure but that is advisable to get manure the first time. Later on after the compost I don't think you need extra manure. You could make yourself with wormfarms, but that would be another topic. let get more buckets and ground to grow potato's.
