It is hard to believe that we do not have some goal or objective to achieve. Usually, we do small and big tasks every day and when we finish them we feel satisfied. However, waiting for the right moment for each thing can be transcendental in reaching or not reaching our objectives. This reflection was born from observing the creation around us.
One morning last week I saw some bees working in a garden planted with flowers. There was also a larger animal. We already know that bees help with the work of pollinating plants and flowers. But something interesting about them is that they select very well the time in which they will land on each flower.
This is due (in part) to the fact that they take their time to fly over and choose the flower on which they will land. Since they have special vision (not like ours) they can distinguish which flower will be more productive than another. I learned that a few months ago. So the bee is designed to make the best use of its time and energies on only those flowers that will be worthwhile, that will have the best yield.
What about those flowers that are not at their full potential at the time the bee is working? Well, it will probably have to wait for another round of visits.
This ability of the bees reminded me of something important: when we choose the best time to do some work or task we will be increasing the chances of doing our job well, and therefore, being satisfied and happy. Can we cite some examples? Surely.
Planting. In many parts of the world there are two distinct climatic seasons, at least two. That is why farmers know that in dry seasons we should not grow plants that need a lot of water, since it increases the possibility that we will not have the greatest benefit, and therefore we will not reach our goals.
Assuming responsibilities. Sometimes we are presented with opportunities for study, work, or even an invitation. But for some reason we do not have the ideal circumstances to accept them, perhaps we have acquired some family responsibilities, we are finishing a task we have already started, or we simply cannot afford it. Accepting a new opportunity or invitation could become a burden, not an enjoyment. Why? Because it seems that it is not the right time to accept it. Perhaps the best thing to do is to postpone it (if you can) and that way it will be more likely that with better circumstances we can feel more satisfaction.
Travel and vacations. We all want to make the most of these occasions, but sometimes they are marred by the excess of people, traffic and occupation of tourist areas. Undoubtedly, taking advantage of low seasons in tourist places increases the enjoyment and benefit of the whole experience. Choosing these times makes us more satisfied with the effort we made to leave home.
These are just examples of choosing the best time for things with certain importance, but we are constantly choosing things that are at their best moment. Why do we drink coffee in the morning? Why do we choose fruits with the degree of ripeness we like? Why do we get up or go to bed at the same time?
In short, you may agree that there is a relationship between choosing the best time to act and the satisfaction we will feel. So, let's keep learning to discern those moments and we can continue to feel the satisfaction of being alive. See you next time!
Es difícil creer de que no tenemos alguna meta u objetivo para alcanzar. Por lo general, hacemos pequeñas y grandes tareas todos los días y al terminarlas nos sentimos satisfechos. Sin embargo, esperar el momento oportuno para cada cosa puede ser trascendental en alcanzar o no nuestros objetivos. Ésta reflexión nació al observar la creación a nuestro alrededor.
En una mañana de la semana pasada vi a unas abejas trabajando en un jardín sembrado con flores. Había también un animal más grande. Ya sabemos que las abejas ayudan con el trabajo de polinizar las plantas y flores. Pero algo interesante de ellas es que seleccionan muy bien el tiempo en el que se posarán sobre cada flor.
Por eso se debe (en parte) a que se toman su tiempo para sobrevolar y elegir la flor en la que se posarán. Ya que tienen una visión especial (no como la nuestra) pueden distinguir cuál flor será más productiva que otra. Yo me enteré de eso hace unos meses atrás. De modo que la abeja está diseñada para aprovechar mejor su tiempo y energías en sólo aquellas flores que valdrá la pena, que tendrán mejor rendimiento.
¿Qué pasa con aquellas flores que no están al máximo de su potencial al momento de que la abeja está trabajando? Bueno, probablemente tenga que esperar a una nueva ronda de visitas.
Esta capacidad de las abejas me recordó algo importante: cuando escogemos el mejor momento para realizar algún trabajo o tarea estaremos aumentando las probabilidades de hacer bien nuestro trabajo, y por ende, quedar satisfechos y contentos. ¿Podemos citar algunos ejemplos? Seguramente.
Sembrar. En muchas parte del mundo se distinguen estaciones climáticas, al menos dos. Por eso, los agricultores saben que en las estaciones secas no deberíamos cultivar plantas que necesitan mucha agua, puesto que aumenta la posibilidad de que no tengamos el mayor beneficio, y por ende no alcancemos los objetivos trazados.
Asumir responsabilidades. A veces se nos presentan oportunidades de estudio, de trabajo, o hasta alguna invitación. Pero por alguna razón no tenemos las circunstancias ideales para aceptarlas, tal vez hemos adquirido algunas responsabilidades familiares, estamos terminando alguna tarea que ya empezamos, o sencillamente no podemos costearla. Aceptar una nueva oportunidad o invitación podría convertirse en una carga, y no en un disfrute. ¿Por qué? Porque parece que no es el momento de aceptarla. Tal vez lo mejor sea posponerlo (si se puede) y de esa forma será más probable que con circunstancias mejores podemos sentir más satisfacción.
Viajes y vacaciones. Todos queremos aprovechar al máximo éstas ocasiones, pero en ocasiones se ven empañadas por el exceso de personas, tráfico y ocupación de los espacios turísticos. Sin duda, aprovechar las temporadas bajas en lugares turísticos aumenta el disfrute y aprovechamiento de toda la experiencia. Escoger estos momentos hace que estemos más satisfechos con el esfuerzo que hicimos para salir de casa.
Éstos son sólo ejemplos de escoger el mejor momento en cosas con cierta importancia, pero estamos constantemente eligiendo cosas que estén en su mejor momento. ¿Por qué tomamos café en la mañana? ¿Por qué escogemos las frutas con el grado de madurez que nos gusta? ¿Por qué nos levantamos o acostamos a esa misma hora?
En resumen, es posible que usted concuerde de que hay una relación entre escoger el mejor momento para actuar y la satisfacción que sentiremos. Por eso, sigamos aprendiendo a discernir esos momentos y podremos seguir sintiendo la satisfacción de estar vivo. ¡Hasta la próxima!
