I'm glad that after some time without writing, to start with my participation in this topic of hugs. Although January 21 has been chosen as the day of the hug, it is important to remember that these manifestations of affection do not have to have a day or date to do so. But it seems that we forget, it is not customary or we have not learned to see the importance of this, that we have had to set a day to do it. This is where I remember my mother-in-law, who while I was visiting her at home, suddenly and when you least expected it, she shouted: "it's time for the family hug! How nice it is that the family encourages this type of activity that fosters unity and expressing feelings.
In my case I am NOT very expressive with hugs, it is hard for me to receive them and to give them too. At home, when I lived with my parents, I was not used to give this kind of expressions all the time or every time, so it is hard for me to hug because of the lack of habit. It also influences the fact of the inheritance of character or personality that you receive from your parents, which although it may seem a lie, it does affect and it is a reality. Although my dad loves us and still shows it to this day, he is not very expressive, quiet, doesn't smile much and has a strong character, and in case you still don't suspect it... I look a lot like him, hahaha . Because of this, once I got married, I understood the importance of expressing love and empathy with hugs, which cost me a lot since my husband is used to be more expressive .... hahaha at the beginning I was like a stick, without gestures or expressions while receiving his hugs. But I learned that hugs help to grow love and unity within the family bond.
In light of this, over time my desire to learn to hug more and be hugged grew...let alone when pandemic time came. During the COVID quarantine, I longed to be hugged by my loved ones who did not live with me at home. They who spent time without going to my house, when they came to visit me, I could not hug them, it hurt me a lot, I wanted to give them a good hug and very tight, hahaha. Of course, now that I have gotten used to doing it, I like to give a good hug and stay a few seconds in that way I feel that I transmit a lot of affection, empathy and vice versa. When I hug my nephews and nieces it is a feeling of incomparable tenderness and love. Imagine when I met them for the first time, when they were born? I just wanted to hold them in my arms and squeeze them. And now after some time receiving their hugs and me giving them hugs has become part of our family life. My sister has managed to make her little ones see the importance of expressing their feelings without any shame, whether it is with expressions like: "I love you", "I missed you", "I love you", and with hugs and kisses.
I really miss the hugs from my family who are out of the country. Although communication is constant by phone, it is never the same to see each other and be able to show affection. I also miss the hugs from dear friends that I lost in death during the pandemic. I especially had a friend, much older than me, who when I felt distressed showed me personal interest with expressions and words, listened to me, cried with me and at the end of the conversation sealed her demonstration of love by giving me a strong hug that lasted a few minutes...how much I miss them! Those are hugs that heal the soul. But I have faith in my loving God, that soon I will receive those tender and affectionate hugs again from that great friend.
I think that hugs should be a constant part of our lives, because they are a manifestation of our feelings. In families it is fundamental for there to be unity and so children learn to do it and when they form their own families they will be happier for hugging. When you give a hug you can show affection, interest and empathy. And when we receive them from others, we feel like they are telling you: "everything is fine", "you can count on me", "don't worry", or simply "I love you very much"...and that relieves the emotional burden you are carrying or simply confirms that they love us. I also think that, if we are not used to doing it, we can learn...I can assure you in my case, and they don't cost anything...in fact, you gain a lot with hugs.

En mi caso NO soy muy expresiva con los abrazos, me cuesta recibirlos y darlos también. En casa, cuando vivía con mis padres, no era muy acostumbrado dar este tipo de expresiones todo el tiempo o a cada rato, así que a mí me cuesta abrazar por la falta de costumbre. También influye el hecho de la herencia de carácter o personalidad que recibas de tus padres, que aunque parezca mentira si afecta y es una realidad. Aunque mi papá nos quiere y lo demuestra aún hasta ahora, es poco expresivo, callado, no sonríe mucho y es de carácter fuerte, y por si aún no lo sospechan...yo me parezco mucho a él, jajaja . Por esto, una vez que me casé, entendí la importancia de expresar amor y empatía con los abrazos, cosa que me costó muchísimo ya que mi esposo si está acostumbrado a ser más expresivo ... jajaja al principio yo como un palo, sin gestos ni expresiones mientras recibía sus abrazos. Pero aprendí que los abrazos ayudan a que crezca el amor y unidad dentro del vínculo familiar.
En vista de esto, con el tiempo fue creciendo mi deseo de aprender abrazar más y ser abrazada...ni que decir cuando llegó el tiempo de pandemia. Durante la cuarentena por el COVID, deseaba ser abrazada por mis seres queridos que no vivían conmigo en casa. Ellos que pasaban tiempo sin ir a mi casa, cuando al llegar a visitarme, no podía abrazarlos, me dolía mucho, quería darles un buen abrazo y bien apretado, jajaja. Eso sí, que ahora que me he acostumbrado a hacerlo, me gusta dar un buen abrazo y quedarme unos segundos en eso, así siento que transmito mucho cariño, empatía y viceversa. Cuando abrazo a mis sobrinos es un sentimiento de ternura y amor incomparable. Imagínense cuando los conocí por primera vez, que nacieron... solo quería tenerlos en mis brazos y apretarlos. Y ahora después de un tiempo el recibir sus abrazos y yo dárselos se ha vuelto parte de nuestra vida familiar. Mi hermana ha logrado que sus hijitos puedan ver la importancia de expresar sin ninguna pena sus sentimientos, sea con expresiones como: "te quiero", "te extrañó", "te amo", y con abrazos y besos.
Extraño mucho los abrazos de mi familia que está fuera del país. Aunque la comunicación es constante por teléfono , nunca es igual verse y poder manifestarse cariño. También extraño los abrazos de amigas queridas que perdí en la muerte durante la pandemia. En especial tenía una amiga, mucho mayor que yo, que cuando me sentía angustiada me mostraba interés personal con expresiones y palabras, me escuchaba, lloraba conmigo y al final de la conversación sellaba su demostración de amor dándome un abrazo fuerte y que duraban algunos minutos...cuánto los extraño!. Esos son abrazos que sanan el alma. Pero tengo fe en mi Dios amoroso, que pronto voy a recibir esos abrazos tiernos y cariñosos de nuevo de parte de esa gran amiga.
Pienso que los abrazos deben formar parte constante de nuestra vida, porque son una manifestación de nuestros sentimientos. En las familias es fundamental para que haya unidad y así los niños aprenden a hacerlo y cuando formen sus propias familias serán más felices por abrazar. Cuando das un abrazo se puede demuestra cariño, interés y empatía. Y cuando los recibimos de otros, sentimos que como que te dijeran: "todo está bien", "cuentas conmigo", "no te preocupes", o simplemente "te quiero mucho"...y eso alivia la carga emocional que lleves o sencillamente nos confirma que nos quieren. Pienso también que, si no se nos ha acostumbrado a hacerlo, podemos aprender...así lo puedo asegurar en mi caso, y no cuestan nada...más bien ganas mucho con los abrazos.
