Tell us about something that has made you feel distrustful.

Some years ago, when I was a schoolgirl, the person I trusted the most besides my mother was an aunt (Sofia) who is only one year older than me, at that time my mother was working in another city and my brothers and I were left to watch over my aunts and grandmother, since the houses were all on the same land.

That particular weekend I would not see my mother, since my older sister had a birthday and it was already planned that I would go to spend the weekend with them, what was not planned was that my friends from school would pick me up at my current high school to celebrate the 15th birthday of one of my best friends in elementary school.

I agreed to go to their house but only respecting the schedule of return home, to which they agreed; that seemed to me a reunion of the primary since when advancing to secondary education we were placed in different high schools and we could hardly see each other; So I went to my friend's house who was having her birthday, near her house there is a river and the boys went to bathe while the girls as a rare thing we stayed helping with the preparations for her party, we made a small cake to sing her birthday before among ourselves, because I could not attend her party.

Yes, on two occasions certain people came into my life pretending to have an illness that prevented them from working and we helped them, as good Christians but something inside me told me that they were not sincere and certainly both people were taking advantage of our good intentions to help the needy and wanted to take advantage of it, one afternoon one of these people did not realize that I was near her, and among her family circle commented: "that with the money collected from the rent of the rooms they had, they would buy certain things and go to the movies to enjoy a premiere, they could buy combos and then go to eat at a popular place in the area". But for this the girl had to pretend to be sick to pretend that with the money they would buy the medicines and so they could give her the food aid, at that moment I felt mocked and I did not let them know that I was there, simply at the time of requesting the aid they were told that I could not process the aid, since the aid was for a maximum of two months and they already had three months depending on the Church. I don't know what they did, what I know is that they never came back to the church or to my house.

What things do you do to manage mistrust?

When something causes me distrust I tend to move away from the place, more if it is a person I make an effort to get to know them and if I realize as in the previous cases that I cannot trust them I simply move away from them, I cannot judge why they do what they do, but I can take care not to get hurt.

En este momento de mi vida no suelo desconfiar con facilidad, en vez de ello me ocupo más por conocerla las personas y brindarles apoyo, aunque en mi pasado si me costaba confiar en los demás motivado a algunas situaciones sucedidas.

Algo que genera desconfianza en mí son las personas que aparentan ser calladitas y al descuidarte te clavan un puñal por la espalda, bien dice el dicho ”Señor cuídame del agua mansa, que de la brava me cuido yo”.

Cuéntanos algo que te haya hecho sentir desconfianza

Hace algunos años, en mi época de colegiala la persona en quien más confiaba a parte de mi madre era una tía (Sofía) quien es solo un año mayor que yo, en ese mi madre trabajaba en otra ciudad y mis hermanos y yo nos quedábamos a la vigilancia de mis tías y abuela, pues las casas estaban todas en el mismo terreno.

Ese fin de semana en particular yo no vería a mi madre, ya mi hermana mayor estaba de cumpleaños y estaba ya planificado que iría a pasar el fin de semana con ellos, lo que no estaba planificado es que mis amigos de la escuela me irían a buscar a mi actual liceo para festejar los 15 años de una de mis mejores amigas en la primaria.

Accedía a ir a su casa pero solo respetando el horario de retorno a casa, a lo que ellos accedieron; eso me pareció un reencuentro de la primaria ya que al avanzar a la educación secundaria fuimos ubicados en diferentes liceos y ya casi no nos podíamos ver; así que fui a casa de mi amiga que estaba cumpliendo año, cerca de su casa pasa un río y los chicos se fueron a bañar mientras que las chicas como cosa rara nos quedamos ayudando con los preparativos para su fiesta, hicimos una pequeña torta para cantarle cumpleaños antes entre nosotros mismo, pues yo no podría asistir a su fiesta.

Al estar lista la torta y luego de ponernos casi al día en nuestros asuntos; cosas de chicas; vimos que se hacía tarde y los chicos no regresaban, por lo que optamos a cantar cumpleaños entre nosotras y yo retornaría a mi casa, en el camino nos encontramos con los chicos que ya venían de regreso y al recordar que yo no podría quedarme empezaron a decirme algunas cosas en juego , tales como: rompe fiesta, sometida, aburrida y algunas que ya no recuerdo, pero eso no me molestó en absoluto eran mis amigos con quienes había disfrutado y compartido desde el jardín de niños, 7 años juntos hacían que esas palabras fueran caricias para mí; claro está viniendo de ellos.

Cuando estaba en la parada esperando el transporte para retornar a casa, ellos se montaron en una piedra y exprimieron sus franelas sobre mí y al unísono me dijeron – Gladys no nos dejes – nos reímos y me monte en el autobús de retorno a mi casa, al llegar a casa todavía tenía el cabello un poco mojado y le conté lo sucedido a Sofía y ella me dijo – inventadora que dirá tu mamá cuando venga – le respondí que yo se lo contaría ya que no veía que hubiera hecho nada malo; terminé de llegar a la casa y comencé a preparar mi bolso pues al día siguiente al salir de clases me iría a donde mi hermana, ese fin de semana fue maravilloso retorné al colegio el día lunes y de allí a mi casa.

Cual sería mi sorpresa, mi madre estaba en casa no se había retornado a su trabajo, después de saludarla fui a buscar mi toalla para bañarme y cuando estaba a punto de entrar a la ducha sentí en espalda el latigazo de una rama de tamarindo; esta rama tiene la característica que donde pega quita la piel y deja la marca de por vida; lo único que escuché fue las peores palabras que nunca pensé saldrían de la boca de mi madre, incluso sugirió hacerme una prueba de embarazo. Se podrán imaginar las cosas que Sofía había comentado o mejor dicho inventado.

Lo único que le dije a mi madre fue – haga lo que usted juzgue conveniente, pero antes hable con Antonio; mi hermano mayor; a quien yo me había conseguido en el autobús de regreso a casa y vio lo sucedido con los muchachos y le comenté lo que hacía en ese lado y él me dijo ok le contamos juntos a mi mamá el próximo fin de semana cuando regrese. Solo que Sofía se nos adelantó. Al cambiarme de ropa y de aceptar el castigo impuesto fui a casa de Sofía y solo le dije – gracias por demostrarme lo digna de confianza que eres, no es mi culpa que a ti no te hayan dejado tener amigos, y por mi parte ya perdiste a la que tenías.

Por muchos años no le hable, la decepción, la ira y el dolor que me causaba tocar la cicatriz dejaba en mi piel me recordaba aquel día y volvía a escuchar en mi mente aquellas palabras hirientes de mi madre, aunque mi madre luego se disculpó, las palabras expresadas son el agua luego de derramada no la puedes recoger.

¿Alguna vez fuiste desconfiado y acertaste?

Si, en dos oportunidades ciertas personas que llegaron a mi vida aparentando una enfermedad que les impedía laboral y les prestamos ayuda, como buenos cristianos pero algo dentro de mí me decía que no eran sinceros y ciertamente así fue ambas personas se estaban valiendo de nuestras buenas intenciones por ayudar al necesitado y se querían aprovechar de ello, una tarde una de estas personas no se percataron que yo estaba cerca de ella, y entre su círculo familiar comentaban: “ que con el dinero cobrado del arriendo delas habitaciones que tenían, comprarían ciertas cosas y se irían al cine a disfrutar de un estreno, que podían comprar los combos y luego irse a comer en un lugar popular en la zona”. Pero para ello la chica debía hacerse la enferma para aparentar que con el dinero comprarían las medicinas y así se le pudiera dar la ayuda de alimentos, en ese momento me sentí burlada y no les hice saber que estaba allí, simplemente al momento de solicitar la ayuda se les dijo que no podría procesarle la ayuda, ya que dicha ayuda era por un máximo de dos meses y ya ellos tenían tres meses dependiendo dela Iglesia. Que hicieron no sé lo que sé es que nunca más volvieron ni a la Iglesia ni a mi casa.

**¿Qué cosas haces para gestionar la desconfianza? **

Cuando algo me causa desconfianza tiendo a alejarme del lugar, más si es una persona me esfuerzo por conocerla y si me doy cuenta como en los casos anteriores que no puedo confiar ellas simplemente me alejo de ellas, no puedo juzgar por qué hacen lo que hacen, pero si me puedo cuidar de no salir herida.
