Comparison has to do with having to place two things, objects or humans side by side and spell out whatever differences or similarities that exist amongst them. While in some cases, it has come out to be positive, in other cases it could be negative and have a damaging effect on the individual especially when humans are involved. In our modern world it has become a norm for people to consciously or unconsciously compare people based in their level of intelligence, characteristics, physique, education, manners and so on. I refer to this as being judgemental of a person without having to know full detail or the circumstances that led to their actions.
There are instances where comparing two humans can be positive in the sense that it helps you as a human being who is not perfect in. Every sense to recognize and be grateful for your growth, progress, or strengths in whatever area you find yourself. As a person who tends to be better than I formerly was, I find myself comparing my present to my past to embrace the growth I have made throughout the years. Nobody wants to remain dormant in a particular lifestyle rather we tend to grow. For instance, growth has been attained in levels of lifestyles, travellings, adventure, education, health, achievements and so on. Looking back these can be regarded as positive comparison of one's self that has a great impact.
Also, in another aspect, comparison can bring about a Negative impact to the parties involved. In the past, this bad habit was common amongst parents who would compare their children to neighbors or their friends kids because they are not doing well in school or not coming up first position in their classes. This can lead to depression and lead the child astray rather than impacting the intended correction. I have come to realize that no one is exactly the same or perfect, every one has their own capabilities and strength in different areas that should be nurtured rather than forced.
I was watching a movie back then, when I realized that negative comparison can be so unhealthy and make a person divulge in unhealthy means to seek competition against their rivals. My point is that, the movie was about a wealthy family who had to grown up boys, the younger one was dutiful but the older brother just want to do whatever pleased him while the other was interested in running the family legacies and businesses. The father was not pleased with the older sons decision to do whatever makes him happy rather he enforced his choices on the boy. In all, this brought about a strain relationship between the two boys and a toxic environment where they were at loggerheads with each other.
Comparison can be harmful hence it is advised that people desist from it. Rather than compare, sit the person down and point out his or her mistakes and make correction where necessary with love, if this doesn't work out apply other viable methods.
