Greetings my dear friends and to all those who read me, I sincerely hope that you and your families are well and that you are having a very good day. Today I want to share with you my opinion on a subject that affects many people and it is about the wounds that abandonment leaves in childhood and how these affect adult life.
Recently due to a situation we were going through, I was talking with my husband about the wounds of abandonment and among several things we talked about he mentioned something that left me thoughtful "it seems that the wounds of abandonment can be caused in adulthood". Yes, in the end it seems that yes, a person can be apparently very well and suddenly be completely lost, being far from a loved one and that is what we see, but sometimes there is much more behind that we can't see.
The wounds of abandonment can be very painful and cause scars in us that even if they close can reopen when we suffer again the loss of a loved one, these wounds unintentionally mark our personality and of course the way we see life. It is true that a wound of abandonment is one of the deepest and most difficult to erase, but can we learn to cope and live with them? Later I will tell you what I think.

Hoy quiero compartirles mi opinión sobre un tema qe afecta a muchos y es sobre las heridas que deja el abandono en la infancia y cómo estas afectan en la vida adulta.
Hace poco debido a una situación por la que pasábamos, conversaba con mi esposo sobre las heridas de abandono y entre varias cosas de las que hablamos el mencionó algo que me dejó pensativa "pareciera que las heridas de abandono pueden ser causadas en la adultez". Si, en definitiva pareciera que sí, una persona puede estar aparentemente muy bien y de pronto quedar pérdida por completo, al encontrarse lejos de un ser querido y es lo que vemos, pero a veces hay mucho más detrás que no podemos ver.
Las heridas de abandono pueden ser muy dolorosas y causar en nosotros cicatrices que aunque cierren pueden volver a abrirse al sufrir de nuevo la pérdida de un ser amado, estas heridas sin quererlo marcan nuestra personalidad y por supuesto la forma en la que vemos la vida. Es cierto que una herida de abandono es una de las más profundas y difíciles de borrar ¿pero podemos aprender a sobrellevarlas y vivir con ellas? Más adelante les contaré lo que yo pienso.

Listening recently to Lorena (a clinical psychologist whom I admire very much) in her blog "el diván de Lorena", I understood that emotional disorders, traumas or wounds "cannot be healed" because they are not diseases. It turns out that emotional ailments are more dangerous than many physical ailments and can become part of our life until the end of it, although this is only when they become chronic. However, she mentioned that there were many different opinions on this, still, it made a lot of sense to me, because of what I have seen in others and what I have experienced.
How do we know that a wound of abandonment can open up when we least expect it? I think that unfortunately we are prone to losses all the time, it could be that because of some disagreement or other situation we lose a friendship of years (something that many of us have gone through), this can open that scar and turn it back into an open wound or remind us of that terrible pain experienced in childhood. This pain is different from that of a person who did not suffer from abandonment in childhood, it is more intense and can trigger other ailments.
To begin with, the excessive fear of suffering a loss: This fear not only can lead us to have a life full of anxiety and stress in which even the smallest gesture can lead us to feel that the person no longer loves us or wants to leave. We develop unhealthy attitudes that lead us to exhaust and hurt others. It also leads us to do anything to have their approval, to the point of losing our own identity, leaving us sad and in extreme cases dependent on that other person.
Escuchando hace poco a Lorena (una psicóloga clínica a quien admiro mucho) en su blog "el diván de Lorena", comprendí que los trastornos, traumas o heridas emocionales, "No pueden sanarse" debido a que no son enfermedades. Resulta que los males emocionales son más peligrosos que muchos males físicos y pueden volverse parte de nuestra vida hasta el final de la misma, aunque esto es solo cuando se hacen crónicos. Sin embargo, ella mencionaba que había muchas opiniones distintas sobre esto, aún así, para mí tuvo mucho sentido, debido a lo que he visto en otros y lo que he vivido.
¿Cómo sabemos que una herida de abandono puede abrirse cuando menos lo esperamos? Pienso que lastimosamente estamos propensos a sufrir pérdidas siempre, puede ser que por algún desacuerdo u otra situación perdamos una amistad de años (algo por lo que muchos hemos pasado), esto puede abrir aquella cicatriz y convertirla de nuevo en una herida abierta o recordarnos aquel terrible dolor que se experimentó en la niñez. Este dolor es diferente al de una persona que no sufrió de abandono en la infancia, es más intenso y puede desencadenar otros males.
Para comenzar, el miedo excesivo a sufrir una pérdida: Este miedo no sólo puede llevarnos a tener una vida llena de ansiedad y de estrés en la que hasta el gesto más mínimo puede llevarnos a sentir que aquella persona ya no nos quiere o que también desea irse. Sino que desarrollamos actitudes poco sanas que nos llevan a agotar y lastimar a otros. Nos lleva también a hacer cualquier cosa por tener su aprobación, al punto de perder nuestra propia identidad, dejándonos tristes y en casos extremos dependiendo de esa otra persona.

But on the other hand, there is something else that can happen and it is at the other extreme, we can feel so afraid that we never want to have a relationship with any person again, leading us to completely reject the simple idea of giving someone the opportunity to abandon us, this can lead the person to push everyone away, to feel safe, although this fills them with sadness and loneliness, all in order not to feel that terrible pain again.
What happens in our childhood marks us in an impressive way, according to what we live or not, it will hurt us in adulthood. However, although these things do not heal as an illness does, there is very good news, they can be treated and controlled and I believe that this is what we should concentrate on in order to have the happiest life possible, healthy relationships, emotional stability and mental health.
I consider that psychological therapy is fundamental to achieve that, because when we are hurt it is hard for us to see for ourselves what we should do, the pain somehow does not allow us to think correctly and we require someone with experience, in this case a specialist, to learn how to deal with it. Many consider psychological therapies a waste of time or are embarrassed to take this step, however, I personally believe that they can help us a lot, as long as we do our part.
Pero por otro lado, hay algo más que puede ocurrir y es en el otro extremo, podemos sentir tanto miedo que no queremos tener nunca más una relación con ninguna persona, llevándonos a rechazar por completo la simple idea de darle la oportunidad a alguien de abandonarnos, esto puede llevar a la persona a alejar a todos, para sentirse seguro, aunque esto los llene de tristeza y soledad, todo con tal de no volver a sentir aquel terrible dolor.
Lo que ocurre en nuestra infancia nos marca de manera impresionante, según lo que vivimos o no, nos dolerá en la edad adulta. Sin embargo, aunque éstas cosas no se sanen como lo hace una enfermedad, hay una muy buena noticia, si pueden tratarse y controlarse y creo que esto es en lo que nos debemos concentrar con el fin de tener una vida lo más feliz posible, relaciones sanas, estabilidad emocional y salud mental.
Considero que la terapia psicológica es fundamental para lograr eso, porque cuando estamos heridos nos cuesta ver por nosotros mismos lo que debemos hacer, el dolor de alguna manera no nos permite pensar correctamente y requerimos de alguien con experiencia, en este caso un especialista, para aprender a lidiar con ello. Muchos consideran las terapias psicológicas una pérdida de tiempo o les da vergüenza dar este paso, sin embargo, personalmente creo que pueden ayudarnos muchísimo, siempre y cuando pongamos de nuestra parte.

Thinking about this led me to a reflection and that is that we must be empathetic, sometimes we think that a person is exaggerating when facing a situation that we could easily face, honestly I also came to think it. But in moments like these, a person who suffers, needs more than ever our understanding and support, if we tell him/her that he/she is "exaggerating" or that he/she should "get over it" we are not only not helping, but we are making the situation a little more difficult.
There are many more people than we think who have internal wounds that we can't see, sometimes those we least expect struggle to close one of abandonment. The best thing we can do is not to judge others by the way they act. In case we know someone going through this, let's support them in their process of getting better, let's watch our words and instead be willing to listen to them if they want to open up to us, as we will always need a good friend to whom we can tell how we feel.

En estas terapias, obtendremos herramientas poderosas, que nos ayudarán a controlarnos cuando una pérdida nos desestabilice, esta seguirá siendo una cicatriz, pero aprenderemos a untar cremas y pomadas, para que no se infecte. Pensando entonces en sí podemos sobrellevar esto, la respuesta es sí, podemos aprender tengamos la edad que tengamos a controlar nuestros pensamientos y acciones, podemos también tener relaciones sanas y aunque el miedo a perder a alguien a quien queremos puede ser mayor en quienes han sufrido abandono, esto no les impedirá disfrutar de lo que ahora tienen.
Pensar en esto me llevó a una reflexión y es que debemos ser empaticos, a veces pensamos que una persona está exagerando al enfrentarse a una situación que nosotros podríamos enfrentar fácilmente, honestamente también llegué a pensarlo. Pero en momentos como estos una persona que sufre, necesita más que nunca nuestra comprensión y apoyo, si en cambio le decimos que "exagera" o que lo "supere" no sólo no estamos ayudando, sino que estamos haciendo un poco más dificil la situación por la que pasa.
Hay muchas más personas de las que pensamos que tienen heridas internas que no podemos ver, a veces quien menos pensamos lucha por cerrar una de abandono. Lo mejor que podemos hacer es no juzgar a otros por la manera en la que actúa. En caso de conocer a alguien que pasa por esto, apoyemoslo en su proceso de mejorar, cuidemos nuestras palabras y en su lugar estemos dispuestos a escucharlos si desean abrirse con nosotros, pues siempre necesitaremos un buen amigo al que podamos contarle como nos sentimos.
