On a normal day, one of the things that annoys me the most is people not keeping to time. Like, why tell me you’ll show up by 10am if you know you won’t even leave your house till 11? I’ll just be standing there, looking around, checking my phone every two minutes like I'm waiting for a job interview. Time is precious, and wasting it just… annoys me. Deeply.
I’m the kind of person that likes planning ahead. I calculate my time — "If I leave by 9, I’ll get there by 9:30, and we’ll start by 10.” But when the other person shows up at 11:15 like nothing happened, I just smile… but inside? Chaos.
Then there’s the developer side of me. That one comes with its own unique set of frustrations. There are few things more annoying than code that doesn’t work for no clear reason. You write the logic, everything looks clean, there are no errors — nothing. But the app just decides, “Yeah, I’m not gonna run today.” And you sit there staring at your screen like, “What did I ever do to you?”
Sometimes, it’s one small thing you missed — maybe a bracket, a typo, or a state that wasn’t updated. But finding it? That’s like looking for a single grain of rice in a sack of beans. You scroll up and down, console.log everything, Google the issue, ask ChatGPT (👀), and still nothing. Until one random moment, you see it. And all you can say is, “Wow.”
Another thing? Slow internet. Especially when you’re in a flow, writing code, downloading packages, or trying to push to GitHub — then boom, everything just stops. Pages stop loading. Your Zoom call starts sounding like a robot remix. You refresh, restart the router, open and close your laptop like that will fix it. Sometimes, I even step outside like maybe the air will help the Wi-Fi signal.
Group chats also have a special place on this list. You know the ones where someone texts “Hey”, and disappears? No context, no follow-up. Just “Hey.” Then after 15 minutes of silence, they finally type “Can I ask you something?” Bro, you already asked something — ask the main thing! My brain doesn’t like suspense, especially when I’m in the middle of something.
Let’s not forget the fake urgency. You know those people who act like something is urgent, so you rush to help, only to find out it's something like, “Can you help me choose between these two fonts?” Fonts. You interrupted my day… for fonts? I can't lie, that one gets under my skin.
Then there’s noise — not the normal background kind. I mean the loud generator sounds when you’re trying to concentrate, or people shouting on the phone right next to you like they’re on a construction site. The worst is when you're debugging something tricky and someone starts asking you random questions like, “Have you eaten?” Not now, please. I’m fighting for my life in this code.
And then, people who think every tech person knows how to fix TVs, printers, and satellite dishes. “You’re into tech na, you should know how to fix it.” Sir, I build websites, I don’t fix decoder problems.
But at the end of the day, maybe all these little annoyances are just part of life. Some days, everything goes well. Other days, you’re arguing with your code, your internet, and your neighbor’s loud music all at the same time. You just have to breathe, laugh a little, and hope tomorrow is better.
