The Canary Islands have an interesting history of rivalry between the Catholic Church and Freemasonry. It is a region where the Catholic religion predominates, and as a product of wars and political-social conflicts of the last century, there was a point where Freemasonry was banned and its members persecuted. Masonic temples were destroyed throughout the country, but there was one in particular that remained standing, coincidentally the largest (I do not know if there was another larger one among those that were destroyed).

It is the same symbol on the dollar bill. The building is currently undergoing restoration, which is expected to be completed this year. It is not possible to access the interior, so I have no photos of the inside of the building. If it is ever opened to the public, I think I would certainly go and take some pictures and make a second part of this post. The Catholic Church obviously does not sympathize much with the Masons, and although today there is peace and tolerance, centuries ago there must have been a plot of conflicts between the two groups, worthy of a mystery and drama novel.
Creo que lo más característico de la fachada de este edificio, además de las columnas que recuerdan los edificios de civilizaciones antiguas, es el ojo ubicado dentro de un triángulo en la parte superior. Es el mismo símbolo en el billete de dólar. El edificio se encuentra actualmente en restauraciones, que finalizarían este año. No es posible acceder al interior, por ello no tengo fotos de adentro del edificio. Si se llega abrir al público, creo que seguramente iría a tomar algunas fotografías y haría una segunda parte de este post. La iglesia católica obviamente no simpatiza mucho con los masones, y aunque hoy en día existe paz y tolerancia, hace siglos debió de haber una trama de conflictos entre ambos grupos, digno de una novela de misterio y drama.
Much is said about Freemasons from the point of view of mystery and conspiracies. It is said that they seek knowledge and to be better human beings. Others believe that they are behind the world elite. Personally, I think that if they were ever among the world elite it was in earlier times, while today they have less influence (maybe I am wrong). I don't think they engage in bad things either, at least not those of lower rank. Mucho se habla de los masones desde el punto de vista de misterio y conspiraciones. Se dice que buscan el conocimiento y ser mejores seres humanos. Otros creen que están detrás de la élite mundial. Personalmente, pienso que si alguna vez estuvieron dentro de la élite mundial fué en anteriores épocas, mientras que hoy en día tienen menos influencia (quizás me equivoque). Tampoco creo que se dediquen a cosas malas, al menos no los de rango inferior.
