One of the biggest Challenges of a regular job employed hivers is time management. Even though we are trying to make ends meet, and have fun we still find our selves struggling to get more time for what we love doing. Getting more time never really happens tho, we are stuck to only one body and having 24 hours in a day. And when it cones to hive, there is so much to do and so little time. What is more funny is with the foreseen expansion and usage if this platform, how do you plan to keep up?
I read a book recently and it spoke of having time, money(Value) and knowledge. And knowing how to use the ones you have out of the 3 to get the one you want. I have written a post about this in another post to publish soon. For Now, let's talk about how I manage to balance the little time I don't have.
A few friends I onboarded on hive wanted to know how @deraaa and I managed our time and try to be consistent on our blogs.
We had started the discussion but then I got an idea, how about we both write a post that they as well as other newbies can read to get along. So here are a few newbie tips for your engagement, consistency and time management.
Tokenize your time
Make every time useful and profitable literarily, if you aren't learning something new every hour you re off work, start it. Open to leofinance.io, read some good posts on it, or give value. Its either of the two. Either you re getting value or you re giving it. Everything we do needs to have a value to show for it. Even if it doesn't seem to play out well.
Convert Free Time passively
This is something we usually do when scrolling through IG or twitter for no particular reason.
There Are a lot of free times you can convert to writing times, commenting. Write as many post as you can within that time, you can come back to finish them but at least start 2 or 3 posts daily.
It doesn't have to be online. Have a notepad. Typing will save your time, I m faster on the PC, some may use phones or even voice (will require too much re editing)
Engagement time.. Here you ll find
you need speed, read through several posts and get the core ideas .. Or just enjoy the write up or video and drop an encouragement, a question, a discussion. Some make comments that are even longer than the post.
Commenting.
You don't have to read 10 posts to make 10 comments. Although that is necessary, you can make comment on other people comments actually. The aim is to win upvotes with your comments too, because on hive.blog, comments are counted as posts too...lol so you have to be as creative as well.
We always encourage that everyone makes those 10 comments per day initially which will then generate more replies and replies and more, by so doing, we get 10, if each has 3 replies that's 40 already.
So replying is a very cool way of stirring up a conversation and this will make the person who posted really encourage.
For easier engagement I first advice that you glide closer to your area of likeness, what you are more conversant with, it will help you read faster and even have one, two or three ideas to chip in as much as possible and even correcting notions down in the comment. But for personal improvement please do read other things to help your diversify and ask questions when you re not clear.
One thing I learnt from @dreemsteem and @metcalfe was to sometimes peruse through the comment session of a post before reading the post because thats really where the core of the post is.
Imagine this, when I write a post and someone has a question, my answer is definitely not in the post that the person read, now others may have had similar questions and hence I get to learn more and make my own contribution for most of UA this was really how we learnt and still learning.
Consistency.
One if the things that seem to kill your consistency is not lack of time, it is mostly lack of motivation. And what motivates people mostly is the money. I ll like to let you know that money is a secondary thing when it comes to hive. It is a socio economic hub. He connections you make with people, human beings here is worth more than any small change you may see on a post. So giving your value the right priority matters. "People over money" like @kenechukwu97' discord says. The up votes are given by people and hence that should be your focus. Helping, interacting even praying for people.. Lol. Yes I have Hive friends who pray for me and I pray for them too.❤
At this point its more than just trying to get up votes, it is humans at different cadres and place and professions connecting, and it goes on to physical meetups as well.
So build relationships, those relationships will guide you.
Community
Some people often complain of not getting support when they post into communities, despite having a good post which took them time they still see what we Nigerians refer to as toro kobo. Lol.
Here is the truth, you jinx your good post if you don't engage in that community. You don't have the best post, no one owes you anything on hive, we mostly scratch each other's backs, and thats what community does.
The newbie's mentality is to create, post disappear, thanks to @bhoa my mentor, and @starstrings01 of the newbie initiative, they ll say .. "Make sure you make atleast 5 comments in a community before posting there", I havent always done this to be sincere, but when I do post I make sure I follow up with engagement, either of both ways.
I have invested my time in others, it will replicate itself ,may not be as up votes but truth is people flow in the direction of value, and so does upvotes. If you give people quality time, it will come back as another kind of love language..or same.
I m pretty sure I have said more than I planned. I owe this much knowledge to the newbie initiative, @starstrings01 @eddiespino and @projectmamabg. Thank so much for everything and always.
I ll end here for now as I would expect further discussion in the comment section.
Please do ask your questions, there will always be an answer when it comes to engagement and Time management.
Peace.
