¡Feliz comienzo de semana chicos! el día de hoy vengo nuevamente a torturarlos, perdón, a educarlos, sobre las bebidas "naturales" de consumo habitual con las que deben tener cuidado si sufren de algún problema emocional, en específico de Ansiedad para evitar que compliquen ustedes mismos su condición sin siquiera saberlo.
Ya en otros posts anteriores les he hablado de los efectos emocionales del consumo excesivo del Café y de las Gaseosas que son de las bebidas más consumidas a nivel mundial, pero existen otras más de las cuales debemos cuidarnos y que, irónicamente, son bebidas "naturales" por lo que podemos fácilmente engañarnos con ellas y consumirlas en mayores cantidades.
Estamos acostumbrados a pensar que mientras más naturales sean las cosas son mejores para nuestro organismo ¿cierto? Pero la realidad es que no siempre eso es del todo real, por ejemplo, la industria productora de bebidas carbonatadas o energéticas usan porciones obtenidas de la naturaleza y las combinan generalmente con muchos aditivos químicos, los cuales, si bien son creados en laboratorios y por ende nada orgánicos, sirven para estabilizar sus fórmulas y hacerlas más accesibles para todos.
La realidad es que, en algunos casos, estos aditivos sirven para complementar el efecto del elemento natural y hacer que este sea, tal vez, menos fácil de absorber o más fácil de eliminar, en pocas palabras en general sirven para disminuir el efecto del componente natural principal en el organismo y disminuir la probabilidad de generar efectos indeseados.

Por supuesto no siempre todo es así tan bonito como si ellos siempre pensaran en la salud de todos esos a quienes les venden sus productos. Existe también el caso contrario, los aditivos amplifican el efecto de ese componente natural y crean una especie de "bomba" que puede llegar a ser muy peligrosa por el efecto sinérgico de todos los elementos psicoestimulantes.
El punto de todo esto que les acabo de decir, es que sepan que aun tomado el elemento de la naturaleza sin mucho procesamiento industrial puede ser igual de peligroso que cuando es procesado y añadido en las bebidas o es combinado con otros elementos, no necesariamente tomados juntos. Así que ¡no se dejen engañar! por lo muy "natural" que parezca el componente. Recuerden que las drogas ilegales más fuertes que tenemos en la actualidad, son así: "naturales"
Ahora bien, existen un sin número de elementos naturales en el mundo que son psicoestimulantes, no puedo hacer un post de todos ellos, porque sería ¡una completa locura! y yo tampoco manejo del todo esa información, ojalá supiera mucho de fitología, pero no es la verdad, de hecho, muy pocos médicos manejan esa información.
La realidad es que cuando evaluamos a un paciente con algún problema emocional, especialmente del tipo Trastorno Ansioso debemos hacer una serie de preguntas y descartar el consumo de ciertas sustancias para saber si están empeorando el cuadro clínico o incluso desencadenando la enfermedad sin siquiera saberlo. De algunas de esas sustancias es de las que les vengo a hablar:

The reality is that when we evaluate a patient with an emotional problem, especially of the Anxiety Disorder type, we must ask a series of questions and rule out the consumption of certain substances to find out if they are worsening the clinical picture or even triggering the disease without even knowing it. Some of these substances are the ones I am going to talk about:
Vamos a empezar por hablar de una de las bebidas más consumidas a nivel mundial el "Té verde" y digo más consumidas, porque en vista a que los países asiáticos son los que tienen la mayor cantidad de población y son ellos los que consumen principalmente esta bebida, pues, al sacar cuentas termina siendo así.
Aunque estamos conscientes de que en el resto del mundo se consume en mucho menor cantidad, pero, igual se consume y por eso debo hablarles de él. Yo por ejemplo soy una asidua consumidora de té verde ¡me encanta! Si me preguntas ¿cuál es mi bebida favorita? te diría sin pensarlo: ¡te verde!
Recuerdo haberlo empezado a tomar cuando me gradué de médico entre los 23 y 24 años buscando alternativas para no tomar tanto café y poder mantenerme despierta en los turnos del hospital de 24, 48 y 72 horas de trabajo continuo.
En ese tiempo yo no sabía mucho de la vida ni tanto de medicina amigos, y por eso me gusta hacer estos post, no son solo mi experiencia en la práctica médica sino les cuento mis propias experiencias personales porque no quiero que cometan los mismos errores que yo.
En la universidad consumía muchísimo café, mejor dicho, no mucho ¡demasiado! y no consumía más porque entre clases no podía estar tomando café, pero no era solo eso, eran chocolates, dulces, Nesté y otro montón de estimulantes diariamente. Nada ilegal ¡tranquilos! pero sí igual de dañinos. Por supuesto fueron 7 años de mi vida con esa alimentación horrorosa y luego todo eso empezó a pasarme factura.
Yo empecé a tratar de dejar el café porque al graduarme comencé a tener muchísima gastritis. Tomaba más de 1 litro de café al día ¡una locura! ¡Lo sé! Tenía muchísima ansiedad porque era excesivo el trabajo diario, muchísima responsabilidad y necesitaba mantenerme despierta y alerta.
En vista a que mi gastritis no mejoraba, busqué alternativas energéticas y conocí los ¡maravillosos! Té verde y Té negro, ambos con miles de propiedades beneficiosas para la salud, me gustó más el sabor más suave del verde así que seguí consumiendo ese dejando de lado el negro. Pero esas maravillas con el tiempo se fueron disipando cada vez más y es que al sentir que ya no tomaba café y no tenía la molestia estomacal, entonces me vi en total libertad de consumir cualquier cantidad de esa infusión, lo cual fue un ¡Grave Error!

I, for example, am a regular consumer of green tea, I love it! If you ask me what my favorite drink is, I would tell you without thinking: green tea!
I remember I started drinking it when I graduated as a doctor between 23 and 24 years old, looking for alternatives to not drink so much coffee and to be able to stay awake during hospital shifts of 24, 48 and 72 hours of continuous work.
At that time I did not know much about life or medicine, my friends, and that is why I like to make these posts, they are not only my experience in medical practice but I tell you my own personal experiences because I do not want you to make the same mistakes I did.
In college I consumed a lot of coffee, better said, not too much, too much! and I did not consume more because between classes I could not be drinking coffee, but it was not only that, it was chocolates, sweets, Nesté and other stimulants daily. Nothing illegal, relax! but just as harmful. Of course it was 7 years of my life with that horrendous diet and then all that started to take its toll on me.
I started trying to give up coffee because when I graduated I started having a lot of gastritis. I drank more than 1 liter of coffee a day, crazy, I know! I had a lot of anxiety because it was too much daily work, too much responsibility and I needed to stay awake and alert.
Since my gastritis was not getting better, I looked for energy alternatives and got to know the wonderful! Green tea and Black tea, both with thousands of beneficial health properties, I liked the milder taste of the green one better so I kept consuming that one leaving aside the black one. But those wonders were dissipating more and more as time went by and I felt that I no longer drank coffee and had no stomach discomfort, so I was free to consume any amount of that infusion, which was a Big Mistake!
No les puedo decir la cantidad que tomaba, porque era un exabrupto, absolutamente toda el agua que tomaba era té verde, creo que unos 2 litros diarios, ¿tal vez? Les digo con toda propiedad que este fue uno de los momentos más difíciles y decisivos de mi vida, me acababa de graduar, era la directora de un hospital en un pueblo muy alejado, a 3 horas del hospital de mayor rango más cercano.
Yo sentía que tenía básicamente a toda la población de esa localidad y sus alrededores bajo mi responsabilidad, estaba lejos de casi todo el mundo porque fue en un pueblito muy muy remoto en casi la selva amazónica y no les miento, éramos solo 3 compañeros, así que sentía demasiada responsabilidad sobre mis hombros.
Mi ansiedad empezó por ahí, tenía mucha carga sobre mí, muchas inseguridades, porque, aunque ustedes no lo crean los verdaderos médicos nos graduamos pensando que no sabemos casi nada de medicina, y es que a medida que vas aprendiendo más en la carrera y conociendo más de las enfermedades, te das cuenta de que es tan, pero ¡tan basta! que ¡jamás! podrás saberlo todo.
Todo ese panorama se complica cuando estas lejos de tu familia, no puedes dormir porque debes trabajar hasta 3 días continuos despierto, te alimentas muy mal y aparte combinas todo eso con el consumo de este tipo de sustancias estimulantes de forma excesiva.
Para mi sorpresa el Té verde terminó siendo mucho peor para mí que el café y es que, aun cuando las cantidades de cafeína del té verde y el negro son menores a las de una taza del café, ya que el sabor es más agradable y el efecto es menos inmediato, puedes sin darte cuenta literalmente intoxicarte con las xantinas de ambos tés y ¡créanme! El efecto final es ¡muy malo!
A partir de ese consumo en exceso empecé a tener Crisis de Pánico, de Insomnio y las pocas horas que podía dormir eran intermitentes porque comencé a sufrir de una enfermedad llamado "Síndrome de Piernas inquietas" pueden googlearlo, es terrible ¡muy terrible! y la causa principal de ella es la Ansiedad, mis niveles de cortisol llegaron al límite por lo que debí ir al psiquiatra y hacer un proceso de total desintoxicación.
Y es que amigos el té verde ¡ahí tan inocente como lo ven! contiene un aproximado de 40 mg de cafeína por una taza de 250 cc y una taza de té negro casi 60 mg de esta xantina. Como ven realmente no es tanto, se necesitan 10 tazas de té verde para llegar al valor máximo que debemos consumir de cafeína al día (400 mg) y unas 7 tazas del negro, información que pueden ampliar aquí en ELSEVIER que es una de las revistas de ciencia más importantes de España y por la cual nos guiamos muchos médicos de habla española para actualizarnos sobre información científica.
I cannot tell you how much I drank, because it was an outburst, absolutely all the water I drank was green tea, I think about 2 liters a day, maybe? I tell you with all propriety that this was one of the most difficult and decisive moments of my life, I had just graduated, I was the director of a hospital in a very remote village, 3 hours away from the nearest higher ranking hospital.
I felt that I had basically the entire population of that town and its surroundings under my responsibility, I was far away from almost everyone because it was in a very very remote village in almost the Amazon jungle and I'm not lying to you, we were only 3 colleagues, so I felt too much responsibility on my shoulders.
My anxiety started there, I had a lot of burden on me, a lot of insecurities, because, believe it or not, real doctors graduate thinking that we know almost nothing about medicine, and as you learn more in the career and know more about the diseases, you realize that it is so, but so much! that you can never know everything.
The whole picture is complicated when you are away from your family, you can not sleep because you have to work up to 3 continuous days awake, you eat very poorly and combine all that with the consumption of this type of stimulant substances excessively.
To my surprise, green tea ended up being much worse for me than coffee and the fact is that, even though the amounts of caffeine in green and black tea are lower than in a cup of coffee, since the taste is more pleasant and the effect is less immediate, you can without realizing it literally intoxicate yourself with the xanthines of both teas and believe me! The final effect is very bad!
From that excess consumption I began to have Panic Crises, of Insomnia and the few hours I could sleep were intermittent because I began to suffer from a disease called "Restless Legs Syndrome" you can google it, it is terrible, very terrible! and the main cause of it is Anxiety, my cortisol levels reached the limit so I had to go to the psychiatrist and make a process of total detoxification.
And friends, green tea, as innocent as you can see! contains approximately 40 mg of caffeine per 250 cc cup and a cup of black tea contains almost 60 mg of this xanthine. Por supuesto no queremos llegar al máximo de ¡absolutamente nada! en nuestra vida, así que debemos mantenernos en la mitad de esa cantidad de cafeína (200 mg) y si lo analizas bien, realmente termina no siendo mucho el número de tazas de té que debemos ingerir al día, y eso sin contar los otros estimulantes que consumimos en esas 24 horas que de forma sumatoria empeorarían el cuadro.
Como ven mis queridos #hivers a través de mi experiencia pueden corroborar que estas "maravillosas" y muy naturales infusiones son realmente unas "mini bombas" si las consumimos más allá de lo que debemos, no son solo cualquier bebida y ya, es que su efecto estimulante a nivel neurológico es realmente ¡muy intenso! Incluso puede llegar a ser fatal y más si tienes un sustrato importante en tu vida como muchísimo estrés y otros muchos factores más.
Una recomendación que les doy es: tomen en cuenta que ambos Tés aumentan su efecto psicoestimulante en la medida en que dejas la bolsa de té diluirse más tiempo en el agua, por eso la recomendación principal es tomar el té inmediatamente al prepararlo, no dejarlo para después, cada uno tiene su forma específica de preparación. Eso es porque a medida que las hojas de té se van disolviendo, van liberando más cafeína a partir de las hojas y, de hecho, lo puedes corroborar porque se hace más amargo.
Actualmente sigo consumiendo mi té verde ¡lo sigo amando! Igual que el café, porque ellos no fueron los culpables de mi exceso, fui yo por mi ignorancia con ellos, pero después de haber pasado eso hace tantos años ahora sí lo hago con moderación, consciente de sus niveles de cafeína y del resto de los alimentos que consumo en el día que pueden amplificar su efecto, por eso siempre les digo que en el conocimiento está la clave de todo, cuando aprendemos y más con experiencia ¡ya no olvidamos!

A recommendation I give you is: take into account that both teas increase their psychostimulant effect to the extent that you let the tea bag dilute longer in the water, so the main recommendation is to drink the tea immediately when you prepare it, not leave it for later, each has its specific way of preparation. That is because as the tea leaves dissolve, they release more caffeine from the leaves and, in fact, you can corroborate it because it becomes more bitter.
I still drink my green tea today, I still love it! Just like coffee, because they were not the culprits of my excess, it was me because of my ignorance with them, but after having gone through that so many years ago now I do it in moderation, aware of its caffeine levels and the rest of the foods I consume during the day that can amplify its effect, **that is why I always tell you that knowledge is the key to everything, when we learn and more with experience, we no longer forget!
Me pareció importante hablarles de la Guaraná, porque aun cuando no es una planta que se cultiva a nivel mundial, ya que proviene de Brasil, realmente sí podemos conseguir, sobre todo en América, varias presentaciones de bebidas energéticas y gaseosas a base de Guaraná en los supermercados.
No voy a profundizar en la composición de la Guaraná porque no soy fitóloga ni tampoco sé tanto de este fruto, lo que me interesa que sepan es que una semilla de guaranina tiene 4 veces la cantidad de cafeína que una semilla de café, 30 veces más que el cacao, y los efectos estimulantes son incluso más rápidos que los del café, en unos 15 a 30 minutos estas estimulado mientras que el café tarda el doble que eso.
Por todo esto se deduce que al efecto ser ¡tan inmediato! incluso más que el del café y por ser ¡tan potente! hay que tener incluso más cuidado con el consumo de bebidas a base de este fruto, y más si la combinamos en bebidas energizantes o con alimentos estimulantes.

De acuerdo a las investigaciones que leí aún no tenemos la cantidad máxima de esta bebida que debemos consumir, y es que no es lo mismo este fruto que tiene poco tiempo de conocido, que se cultiva principalmente en Brasil y muy escasa cantidad en algunos otros países de Sur América y Europa, comparándolo con los estudios del café o los Té verde y negro, que en realidad son infusiones milenarias y ¡no exagero!

El principal problema con la Yerba Mate es que se consume en ¡muy! grandes cantidades en las comunidades en donde su consumo es habitual, forma parte de su cultura y sus tradiciones y se considera algo normal, incluso hay lugares donde se consume más de este té que de la propia agua por sí sola.
Según un artículo de revisión que investigué y me leí (ya que mis conocimientos sobre la Yerba Mate no son tan amplios como quisiera, puesto que en Venezuela en realidad casi no se consume este tipo de infusión) hecho en la Facultad de Medicina de la República de Uruguay, titulado: "Yerba Mate: Efecto sobre la vigilia y el sueño" se encontró que en promedio en las sociedades donde se consume este tipo de yerba, la mayoría de las personas pueden tomar aproximadamente 1 litro de esta bebida en solo 1 hora durante sus actividades diarias, usando 50 gr de Yerba, lo que correspondería de entre 350 mg a 550 mg de Cafeína consumidas en esa hora, dependiendo del tipo se Yerba Mate que se consuma.

La Yerba Mate además tiene Teobromina de la cual ya les hablé en el post de Las Gaseosas y su efecto sobre la Ansiedad, y esta por sí sola es un psicoestimulante también, cuyo efecto además retrasa la absorción de la cafeína, haciendo que la presencia de la cafeína en la sangre se haga más prolongada y que la persona tenga consecuentemente menos necesidad de consumir tan constantemente el Mate, en este caso, pero igual se mantengan estos niveles de cafeína en sangre elevados.
Como ven con esos miligramos de Cafeína se sobrepasan por completo las recomendaciones de la OMS sobre el consumo máximo de cafeína que son 400 mg al día y si a esto, además, le agregamos la Teofilina que es otro potente psicoestimulante, o durante el consumo de este té consumimos por ejemplo chocolate o lo alternamos con café, como verán amigos realmente se convierte en algo muy, pero ¡muy peligroso!
Recuerden que como ya dije en mis anteriores post, la tolerancia a la cafeína es muy muy variable interpersona, por eso tal vez algunos no notan un efecto exagerado de estimulación en sí mismos, pero otros sí, y si esos otros además tienen un sustrato emocional importante que los predisponga a enfermedades como la Ansiedad, créanme pueden desencadenarse fácilmente Crisis de Ansiedad, Pánico, entre otros Trastornos de Ansiedad de los que les he hablado con anterioridad.
