Above is His Majesty this morning.
If you are new to this saga, you can catch up with the previous posts HERE
Yesterday, I got my carport ASSEMBLED, buy a guy who was recommended to me. High priced and rather pushy.
All he (or I) had seen of this carport were the boxes
He asked for $1,000.00 USD to assemble it initially, then a few hours after coming to look at the slab, he called and said "after looking at the specs and all, I would like to ask you for $1200.00 USD, but I said one thousand and I will do it at that price if you don't think twelve is fair"
I agreed to the inflated price because now I was figuring if I didn't, he might do a less that his full potential job (If you know what I mean)
After the initial pour of the concrete, this is what it looked like
I knew it wasn't "Construction Level" but I really didn't see why it would be such a big deal for this metal frame carport.
Well, it was BADLY out of level, not only top to bottom (R-L in this pic) but also far side to near side (in this pic) so much so that when they began to assemble the thing, the holes in the frame were not lining up with the holes in the roof panels
Everyone who opined on it before construction predicted that the far side (Down hill in this pic) would have to be shimmed to make it level.
That wasn't the case
It was shimmed on the opposite side I'd have expected, and on the downhill side with a good amount hanging off the slab unsupported.
The company sent these long aluminum nails for anchors, can you believe it?
So they expected you to just happer these things through the hard concrete?
When they left yesterday, it was shimmed, hanging off the edge of the slab IN THE FRONT (I had expected it to be off in the back since the slab was poured short 1 ft due to a tree back there)
This morning I called my neighbor and asked if he would come over and offer his opinion, and any suggestions would be welcome
He did, we removed all the shims and he said he would come over later and help me anchor this thing.

There are some 'wrinkles' in the top cover now, but if I can get to them and seal them, I will be happy. At least my car will not be in the weather, if I wash it, it will look clean a LOT longer, I won't have to worry about hail damage etc...
Too bad His Majesty will be losing one of His favorite places to lie in the sun
So this is near the end of this saga,
I hope you've enjoyed this journey with me, it has cost me a LOT of money, pain and suffering (just now when I went out to get the manual, I caught my toe and fell, dropping my phone and scraping my elbow, a trip to the Chiropractor is now in the offing)
But it is one project completed, basically.
It is a good thing when at my age, you can actually finish something.
Now if I could only put away my clothes ha ha these were washed several days ago and have been in the laundry basket until a while ago
