Picking the paint for this sound room was the easy part...kind of. Originally I chose a true black to outfit the room since I was going for a professional studio appeal. By the time I finished painting the third wall however, I quickly realized that doing the interior of the vocal booth in all black was absorbing WAY too much light which left a dreary feel to the space - obviously not ideal.
I decided that I would keep some of the walls black (especially on the thick door jam - love how that looks in black), and selected a more personal color for the other walls - Caicos Turquoise. It was a tough call between that color and the very similar Mermaid Treasure, but I am VERY glad I choose the former as it gives the space an arctic ice-cave vibe which feels inspiring and creative. Never overlook the creative vibration level of a creative space, it is more important that you may realize, and the right color selection can go a LONG way with inspiration.
The Color Choice
There are a few reasons I went with a turquoise shade. For one I am a Sagittarius and turquoise is my birthstone. Blue is also the color of communication and is associated with the throat chakra knows as Vishuddha - who's symbol is used as an abstract "E" for the fist letter of my ELAmental logo. Combining a green shade with the blue to create this turquoise type also adds an element of health, prosperity, abundance, healing, and of course cannabis, also representing the heart chakra. Metaphysically, adding the characterizes of healing green with communicative blue manifests a perfect spirit-color representation for much of the content created with my music. Combine all the with the arctic-ice cave vibe... perfection.
Before we applied any paint though, we first had to apply a few packs of texture to add some dimension to the walls. We applied the texture to the outer and inner walls, but decided to only paint the interior as I am waiting for some artists to come through and assist in designing a mural, which I will also publish an article about in the near future.
