The present day society just can't place their hands on what the difference between being alone and being lonely is all about. Because they can't differentiate the two, they have some negative thought about someone having the idea of wanting to be alone. Being Lonely means you have no friends or people in your life to talk to or even listen to what you have to say or even what you are going through, and this makes you sad or unhappy all the time. But, you wanting to be alone is more of a choice, a decision you make for yourself. Once in a while, everyone should have what people attribute to be a "ME TIME", that time you spend with yourself, to know more about yourself. No doubt, it's amazing when you spend time with people and also when you get to know more about yourself from others, but if anyone can give a good account of you, then it's only you. Hence, it's best we try to have some time out for ourselves.
So many persons have been made to believe that solitude is the enemy. People need to understand that, solitude does not necessarily cause loneliness, and I also feel people should understand that, even in the presence of others we can still experience loneliness. You having that feeling that no one is there for you when you need them is exactly how loneliness feels, but solitude is more of a choice, a choice you take to be alone, probably to escape from so many things, a choice to be with your own thoughts and understand more about yourself. Like I said before, there are so many benefits of solitude, I'd probably throw more light on that in subsequent posts. But, for now, let's get back to why I am writing this post, "WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU NEED SOLITUDE?"
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU NEED SOLITUDE?
Okay before anything, I just have to point this out, you don't necessarily need to spend time in a yacht or travel to one far country before you can spend time alone (well, again if you have the funds and you feel that's what you truly need then you should do it too). All you really need to spend time with yourself, is any time of the day that you feel will be okay for you to spend more time with your thoughts. Trust me, you need this, solitude is good for your well-being. So, today's post I will be sharing some things I feel you can always do whenever you feel like spending some time alone, just make sure you find that perfect time of the day you feel is best to get your alone time.
One way to really spend time with your thought, is by meditating, doing this helps you calm down and also sharpens your focus. Sometimes, just close those eyes and listen, listen to the wind as it blows, hear the birds as they flap their wings, try to listen more and slowly eliminate all the noises around you and just focus on one sound. This helps to calm you, you can access your thoughts better when you are calm and you think really straight also, when you are calm. So, when next you want some time to yourself, and you are thinking of what you should do, I'd advise you try meditating for a while.
Sometimes, meditating might not be what you need at that time, probably because of the place and time. But there are other ways to have some time to yourself, and you can do that by writing in a journal. Sometimes, writing about how you feel inside helps you Interact more with your thoughts, it's different from when you talk to someone, in that paper, you serve it raw, no editing of what's going on in your mind. Whenever I write in my journal, I see it as me writing a letter to my mind, sharing how I feel inside, this does not only calm me down but also help me keep track of myself, sometimes I read things I wrote many years ago and I look at myself right now, I just feel grateful about sharing that part of me with my journal.
Another thing you could do while spending time with yourself, is to set goals. When you are alone and you are having very good conversation with your thought, set goals on how to better your life, what are the things you feel you need to achieve, how do you go about achieving them? These are some of the things you need to throw at yourself while trying to figure out how to go about achieving those goals. Take out time to plan your life and how to shape it in the direction that you want.
Those time you spend in solitude shouldn't go to waste, what more can you do with that time, well, you can always reflect more on your goals, it's one thing to set goals, another to execute those goals and another to know how much success you are making while trying to achieve those goals. Always try to revisit your goals, evaluate them and see how they look like, how best to get them working. Always check your progress to know how far you've come and how far is the remaining part of the journey.
Most people don't know this, but solitude is actually a door to self care. Another thing I feel you can always do is, paying more attention to your emotions. Same way you check on your friends and family, try to always check on yourself. Try to understand your physical, mental and emotional state. Ask yourself how you are feeling? While trying to spend some time with yourself, you can always use that time to check yourself properly to make sure you are doing okay.
The things you are not aware of, are things that you can not change and the moment you become aware of things around you and also in your life, you just can't prevent yourself from accepting the new changes that will take place in your life. Solitude helps you gain a higher awareness of yourself and this is what unlock the door for you to experience changes in your life. Allow yourself to embrace some time with your thought, that way you can better understand yourself. It's definitely not easy to be alone with your thought, but you just have to create that little time to do that for your well-being, you could even go for a stroll in the evenings, just walk around for a while before going back home and you will notice how free you feel inside. Solitude is not your enemy, it's okay to want to be alone sometimes, and if you still don't know what to do with that time you've designed with yourself, scroll up again and read some of the things I have shared with you. I just hope you find solace in what work best for you, have a lovely day today.
