Finding more natural remedies
Lately, I've become more and more aware of natural remedies and visit the bio store at least once a week. For some reason, I keep finding out about more natural things to use rather than the usual (often toxic) stuff I used to buy. For example, yesterday I took my first foot bath with Epsom salt, which I never heard of until a few weeks ago talking with someone about detoxing his liver with that. I first thought he was going to take in a lot of normal salt until he explained this is something different. Anyway, it turns out this stuff is making my feet as soft as baby feet, so it's a keeper! You can use it for a lot of different things, so I think I will try out more stuff soon as well.
My hair
I have beautiful thick hair, at least, it was beautiful for a long time. Lately, I've been quite annoyed that it turns greasy so quickly since the lockdowns. I'm not the only one having this issue so I guess it's because of spending more time inside. So, I don't remember how I got to the "No Poo method" yesterday, I've read about it in the past and never continued to try it as (honestly) I didn't feel like going through the transition phase of having an itchy scalp and greasy hair. So I kept on using shampoo and conditioner without much trouble.
Until last week, when I used Syoss conditioner (I usually have this brand, but use different ones every few months) that instantly made my scalp burn, not only was my scalp burning and red, but also my forehead. It took hours before it was back to normal and it honestly scared me, wondering what the heck was in that bottle. It made me realize that you never actually know what's in there and that I hate the fact that I buy this stuff that sometimes does more harm than good to my hair. And when I think it does any good, that's actually just fake because it's only feeling soft instead of really repairing my hair.
No poo method
By coincident (if you can call it that), I bumped on a video about the No Poo method, where poo doesn't mean poop but shampoo (lol) and you stop using any shampoo / conditioner to detox your head/hair from all these ingredients inside those bottles. You can find more information about it here so that I won't have to explain it for those not familiar with this method.
I have seen people document this before (years ago) and the transitioning phase is really not funny, especially not when you HATE those greasy hairs making your head itch like crazy (that's me). But I feel it's time to commit to this, assuming it will work out well, then there will only be benefits for me. I will have beautiful and healthy hair again, I will save a ton of money on these products like shampoo/conditioner and it will also be good for the environment, which I really find important as well.
There are different ways to start this method, some use water only to rinse the hair, where others use a paste of baking soda and apple cider to clean the hair. At this point, I don't know which approach is for me and I will make sure I have these ingredients in case I need them as soon as I start this. I feel this is another step forward of myself to become a better me that is more aware of natural remedies instead of using toxic items that have been sold to me as "normal" all my life (like for most people) while it's actually not a necessity at all. Until now, there wasn't really a moment that I wanted a change in this normal routine, but here I am today, feeling I should make a huge change!
My plan
Unfortunately, I've not decided on this approach at the start of this lockdown, which would have been the best as I would have been able to avoid human interaction a lot more when this transition phase is going on. I absolutely hate it going outside with greasy hair, so there's a challenge for me with summer arriving soon!
I don't want to waste any products (I'm very strict about that), so I've decided to make sure the shampoo and conditioner that's left are empty. Not including the conditioner from hell, this one will end up in the bin instead of on the hair. I will attempt to visit the hairdresser tomorrow or one of the next days (depending on their time as they have limited slots available) and make sure my hair is a lot shorter, which will help me when brushing it after I rinse it with water only (I'm sure it will be a pain).
Looking at my shampoo bottle, this will be empty somewhere this week, and the conditioner (not the horror one) I have left will only last 1 or (if I'm lucky) 2 times so this will be banned out before I don't have any shampoo left. It's actually making me panic and excited at the same time when I think about the short period I will have before I start banning these products, on the other hand, I'm so very excited that this is another huge change I'm making in my life to treat myself and my body better and most of all, be more conscious about how to treat it!
I'm curious if any of the readers have made this "No Poo" step as well and yes, if it was horrible you can share it too, I'm prepared! :)
Have a safe day!
