" It's just a donut, right?"
When I mentioned to my mom that I often have a bagel for breakfast, she was curious then googled it. She initially thought it looked like a donut, but I corrected her and explained that a bagel is actually a different type of bread. Where my mother lives, there's no French bakery nor International bakery where they would sell assorted breads from various countries. So, she doesn't know these kind of bread nor even taste it.
It just got her even more curious because I can't shut up about bagel at some point. Whenever she asked me what I would eat for the day, she always phrase her question like, " so, did you eat bagel today?" and you bet I did. For me, I can survive without rice but it's gonna be hard if I can't find some type of bread.
The other day, I am getting my mom bagels to try for the first time. For her, any bread is some type of snack but for me, it's a meal itself. I am getting the bagels from my favorite place called Sangmane. They also sell sandwiches with hamon, cured pork, and gamon pork, mortadella. Some of their bagel selection comes with queso red, cream cheese, mexican style chicken brine and even maple glaze pork bacon. Since it's mostly more expensive, I ended up just getting the bagels which was around $1.4 for two with extra herbs cream and cheese and pork bacon. Besides, I don't like how they cut the bagels and by making them my own, I can cut however I like it.
When my mom first saw the bagel, she commented that it had too many seeds and looked more like a donut than a bread. She told me that she would find the recipe online and learned how to make it. Although, she's not confident that it would sell back home. I still convinced her that it's worth a try!
Then, when it's time to actually craft them into a delicious bagel sandwich, I add some some herb cream cheese and two slices of crispy pork. That and Starbucks coffee will definitely make my day. But for my mom, I only use fresh bagel and added some herb cream cheese. She told me that without some type of meat, it won't be that good. She suggested to add saugage inside but we didn't have that. So I am making notes that I should get her smoked beef slice for her bagels next time. After trying the bagel, my mom said she liked it and we plan on getting some more before she's going back.
