This is one of the best activities to start the day. On a sunny morning with a glass of pure coffee without sugar accompanied by a few pieces of roasted glutinous rice with sweet srikaya jam.
About the coffee
The coffee I ordered at my regular coffee shop is "Kopi Sareng", the best type of Arabica coffee from the Gayo highlands, Indonesia. It is traditionally brewed, filtered using a very fine cloth. I always drink coffee without sugar, I am one of those people who believe that sugar will spoil the taste of coffee, it does taste bitter. However, you will get the authenticity of the coffee taste if you drink it without any mixture. It felt so delicious. The pleasure of the taste of coffee is what causes anyone to be addicted to return. Caffeine? It's just a substance from coffee, if you drink it in reasonable doses, then your body will be healthy.
About the "Pulut Sticky Rice"
Pulut glutinous rice is made from glutinous rice. The beginning of the process is washed repeatedly until it is clean like washing rice to be cooked as rice. After cleaning, it is given a little sugar and salt, it's just for a little taste just so it doesn't taste bland. Then soaked with coconut milk for a while. Then the glutinous rice that has been soaked in coconut milk is wrapped in banana leaves and shaped into an elongated round and then steamed until cooked. Banana leaves are the best packaging from nature, if you use aluminum foil, it will not taste good and at our place this is never done. Banana leaves are still very abundant here.
The steamed water is mixed with coconut milk, it will give a savory taste when we eat. After the steaming process is complete, it is cooked and ready to eat. But, the process is not finished, the baking process is the most important step in making this special cake. Roasting will produce a distinctive smell of glutinous rice and will be slightly oily because it comes out of the coconut milk mixture. The maker will always control the roasting process, it will keep it from scorching. If charred, it will become hard and slightly bitter taste. Although some people like it a little bit charred, but a certain level of ripeness has created a different taste, it has been really cooked because of the steaming and roasting process.
About "Srikaya" jam
Srikaya is made from flour and egg yolks which are cooked with pure sugar and given a little water. If it has thickened, then it is cooked.
The sweetness of Srikaya is not too much and is enough to compensate for the bitter taste of pure coffee.
Pure coffee without sugar combined with Srikaya is the perfect match. You will only find this menu if you visit my place. I've never found them anywhere else. They are very special to me. My day becomes brighter and more vibrant after enjoying it.
