Certainly women nowadays we go through different biological, hormonal, psychosocial changes, stress factors that we women experience more often stressful events such as domestic violence, sexual abuse and socio-economic difficulties when we observe that the whole world starts to turn upside down with so many uphill responsibilities.
Because many times we say we can handle it all, but no, sometimes we can't and it is for strong women and warriors to accept that as well.
The social pressure and the expectations that each gender expects, increases even more the pressure on women because of this determination to be perfect in all aspects of our lives. And I repeat it is important to seek help in each of the mental or physical health problems we have.
Help, community and talking will always be our best cure.
How do women overcome persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, irritability, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and possibly loss of interest in activities?
Lately we are experiencing feelings of sadness, anxiety, irritability, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and possibly loss of interest in activities. These symptoms can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, our age-related hormonal changes, quality of life, physical activity, physical and mental health.
When I have experienced these symptoms and when my circle of women are the same, it is always best to seek professional and spiritual help and by this I mean two things: go to the religious community that your faith indicates or go to therapy with a good friend depending on how you feel.
Although a therapist can really help you identify the cause of your symptoms and develop strategies to cope with them, from my personal point of view and from my experience I recommend making changes in our lifestyle. Always remembering that you are not alone, that many women live a thousand things in one day, but it is only up to us to channel them with help and support from people and professionals. You should never, ever repress your feelings, your emotions and much less keep quiet when it is so rich to shout what you feel and live a full, meaningful and purposeful life.
In my experience to overcome these feelings of anxiety, sadness or depression we can do the following:
- Take care of yourself physically: of getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods and exercising regularly.
- Connect with others: Spend time with loved ones, join a support group, read more, write, have a tea and share it in a support group.
- Do relaxation: Yoga, meditation and deep breathing can help you calm your mind and body by watching videos on Youtube and following them at least 5 min before sleeping helps to calm the mind.
- Avoid vices: a social drink is not the same as drinking every day.
- Seek help: If your symptoms are severe or interfere with your daily life, seek HELP, NEVER hold back. Because you can move forward.
With time and effort, you can overcome these energy slumps, remember that you are strong and capable of achieving everything you set your mind to.
