Introduction
This week, we're diving into one of the sneakiest ways to grow stronger in Splinterlands—by feeding off the fallen! The Scavenger ability allows a unit to gain health every time a monster dies, making it a powerful survival tool in battles filled with chaos.
But when is Scavenger at its best, and what should you watch out for? Let’s break it down!
Ability
Note: Fallen Units on either team will feed the Scavenger.
Official ability information from splinterlands: List abilities
Synergies / strategy
Abilities benefits
Resurrect / Rebirth - Both can cause extra kills so scavenger takes more advantage by dying enemies or your own units
Heal/Triage/Tank Heal - All healing ability can make you scavenger unit only stronger and more sustainable.
Affliction - Good to know that affliction has no impact on scavenger so this way you still gain health when units die. Affliction only stop from being healed.
Ruleset benefits
Equalizer - All units start with the same health so savenger unit can start with a high health and get even higher with the scavenger. Combined with a healer (triage or tank heal) it can be hard to kill the scavenger unit.
Noxious Fumes - Units across the board can be killed quicker because of the poison this will benefit the scavenger unit. Make sure the scavenger unit is not killed by the poison 🤣
Earthquake - same as noxious fumes more change that units are killed by the earthquake can benefit the scavenger unit.
Born Again - Every unit has a rebirth so this way the scavenger unit can gain even more health.
Select / favorite
Mine scavenger cards:
There is one summoner that grant 1 unit with scavenger and triage.
Now it's time to pick my favorite! There are a few Scavenger units I really like, but one stands out above the rest—Doctor Blight. This card is just incredible, and its combination of abilities makes it an absolute menace on the battlefield.
I haven’t owned it for long, but it's already climbing my stats at lightning speed, securing the top spot in my lineup. If I had to pick a second favorite, it would be Riftwing—especially when paired with a Weapon Training unit. That combo turns it into an absolute beast.
So, what makes Doctor Blight so amazing?
- Scavenger keeps stacking health as monsters fall.
- Camouflage ensures it can't be targeted directly.
- Poison makes it a nightmare for opponents, dealing extra damage over time.
Since it starts with low health, Scavenger helps keep it alive longer, and with Camouflage, it stays safe while slowly picking off enemies. Add in the Poison effect, and it’s just ruthless. No wonder it’s one of my absolute favorites!
My top scavenger units:
Specific stats on doctor blight:
Strategy
Medium mana match with little league, perfect for doctor blight because it only 4 mana.
No healing not a problem i bring a scavenger unit.
Rulesets
Healed Out:
All healing abilities are disabled.
High Five:
Only five units can be selected
Little League:
Only summoners and units are allowed that cost 4 or less mana. There goes my favorite Lux

My Scavenger Lineup
This lineup is built entirely around Doctor Blight, ensuring it gets the most out of its Scavenger ability while staying protected. Here’s the breakdown:
Pelacor Bandit (lvl 10)
A fast frontliner that relies on speed and evasion—hoping to dodge a few hits. With 4 damage for just 4 mana, it’s a solid and efficient choice.
Clockwork Aide (lvl 6)
A bit of a gamble, but it plays a key role. If my opponent brings magic, it might go down fast—which is actually a win for Doctor Blight, boosting its health early. If there’s no magic, it can hold the front for a few rounds, absorbing damage.
Kulu Swimhunter (lvl 10)
Another 4-for-4 damage dealer, positioned right in front of Doctor Blight. This placement is intentional—I want Kulu to fall before Doctor Blight, maximizing those Scavenger health gains.
Doctor Blight (lvl 4)
The star of the show! This entire lineup is designed to keep Blight alive and thriving. Thanks to Camouflage, it stays hidden from sneak and opportunity attacks while dishing out Poison to wear down enemies. The longer it survives, the stronger it gets.
Shock Trooper (lvl 6)
A crucial backline protector against Sneak attacks. Its Electrify ability is risky, though—if Blight doesn’t gain at least 1 health by Round 2, my strategy could fall apart. But the trade-off? Shock Trooper hits hard with 5 damage, aiming to eliminate a unit early to turn the tide of battle.

Rounds
Start :
Let’s break down the matchup. My opponent also brought Doctor Blight, placing it in the second position with a healer behind it—a normally solid strategy. However, in this match, healing abilities are disabled, which takes away a key advantage.
Their frontline unit, Pelacor Conjurer, could be a problem. Its Magic Reflect makes things tricky for my Doctor Blight, since reflected damage could be a threat.
Now, let’s see how the battle unfolds!
Round 1:
The battle kicks off with a devastating 5-damage blow from my Shock Trooper, instantly taking down Pelacor Conjurer. That’s a fantastic start!
Since the first unit has fallen, both Doctor Blight units gain +1 health thanks to their Scavenger ability.
Next, my Pelacor Bandit is quickly eliminated—unfortunate, but again, both Doctor Blights gain another health boost.
Then, my Clockwork Aide falls just as expected. With only 1 health, it didn’t stand a chance against my opponent’s magic unit. But this was the risky part of my strategy, and the payoff? Another boost for both Doctor Blights!
The battle is already shaping up to be a test of endurance—let’s see what happens next!
Round 2:
My Shock Trooper deals 1 damage to all my units, but that’s no problem—Doctor Blight already gained extra health from Scavenger, so it shrugs it off.
Then comes the big moment—Shock Trooper lands a 5-damage hit on my opponent’s Doctor Blight, taking it out! 💥 This is where the trade-off of using a unit with Debilitate comes into play—it’s risky, but when it works, it’s incredibly rewarding.
Next, my Doctor Blight finishes off Time Mage, bringing us one step closer to victory.
Now, my opponent's first ranged unit is forced into the front, meaning it can’t attack anymore—a huge advantage! Just one more pesky unit to go, and the match is mine!
Round 3:
Another Zap from Shock Trooper, but at this point, Doctor Blight has stacked enough health—it barely feels like a scratch.
With my opponent's last ranged unit stuck in the front, there's nothing to worry about anymore. It can’t attack, and it's only a matter of time before it falls.
Just one more round to go, and victory is mine! 🎯🔥
Round 4:
Victory
Conclusion
And there you have it—a perfect example of how Scavenger can help a unit outlast even the toughest conditions, including the Zap from Shock Trooper.
This match also highlights the risk vs. reward of bringing a Debilitate unit. While it can damage your own team, it also provides the power needed to eliminate key threats quickly—a trade-off worth considering in the right setup.
Doctor Blight continues to prove why it’s one of the most played and versatile units in the game. Whether it’s surviving with Scavenger, dealing Poison damage, or staying untouchable with Camouflage, it’s an absolute menace on the battlefield!
