BATTLE LINK -- July 5, 2024 -- Day 187 of 366 vs. @yabalka
Today's battle is one crazy roller coaster of a ride, with some skill shots, a bit of luck, and a very unlikely ending considering the opening picture. This 27-mana battle excluded water and life and had only one rule: Taking Sides.
With dragon available, my opponent and I both chose that route with earth as the support element. But from there we had vastly different strategies. They planned on Lily forcing my attack at the hard-to-hit Void Dragon with tank heal support from Oshuur. I planned for an ambush of trampling damage from Grund, and then after considering the lineups, took a chance on a random scattershot.
That brings us to the featured card, the 2-mana do-it-all earth epic from Chaos Legion -- Acid Shooter. At max level, this fella gets poison to go along with scattershot and cripple. In the modern meta with Lily + Grim Smith everywhere, Acid Shooter has been wildly popular.
Modern favorites Mantaroth, Arkemis, Venka, and Grim Smith are all absent due to the no-neutrals ruleset, so I rather enjoy the strategy without these ubiquitous monsters around. Acid Shooter certainly served its purpose. It connected with the ambush attack from Akane and landed the poison on an opponent's monster. JACKPOT!
Well, did you watch the replay? Wanna guess which monster got some acid to the face before Round 1 even started? For extra difficulty, I'll bet you can't guess which monster is the last one standing at the end of this battle!
Grund served his purpose up front and luckily connected on its first three attacks to make quick work of the "first" flying dragon, but missed the fourth attack on the "second." If it had landed all four attacks and trampled a second time through the resurrected dragon, we'd surely have a different featured card of the day!
My lineup is actually a trainwreck. I nearly got punished for placing the Acid Shooter so close to the front, as Grund is not a durable tank. Lucky for me, the Fungus Flinger came in clutch with some range damage and blind-induced dodges, while Lily focused all of my attack damage to the opponent's 1st position.
If you guessed Fungus Flinger would make it to Round 22 to claim the win, well then comment to get your prize. The adorable reward card mushroom propelled me to victory in this wacky battle where nobody on my team was fast enough to take down the Naga Assassin without fatigue.
No need to wait around for the winner of this one! My all-melee attack force makes lightning-quick work of my opponent's all-magic attackers. I love using Akane to ambush with Katrelba when gladiators are available and paired with Venka, they dealt 22 ambush damage combined. Grund makes another guest appearance, but goes mostly unneeded. They barely mustered a scratch on my team.
