This weeks Battle Mage Challenge is about the Wands Out rule. Splinterlands tells us the following about this rule:
Only units with magic attacks may be used.
Use Phase, Void, Void Armor, and Magic Reflect to counter magic attacks.
Wands out only lets you play monsters which have a magic attack. This includes double attackers, so these are usually of high value for the Wands Out rule.
Currently, Wands Out is clearly dominated by Immortalis
He gives all units Void, which makes them extremely tanky in this rule, since we know that every unit on both teams must have a magic attack. The earth splinter also has several supportive magic monsters, which makes it a great choice for this rule. If available, Immortalis is usually a safe choice for this rule.

Incompatible Rules

Wands Out is incompatible with Keep Your Distance, Up Close & Personal, Broken Arrows, Going the Distance, and Lost Magic,

Desirable Abilities

( Void, Magic Reflect, Silence, Void Armor, Amplify, Poison )
[Void] is the most important ability in Wands Out, because it will reduce all incoming damage (apart from double attackers secondary strike). Silence is also extremely effective, especially if you can stack more than one of them. Magic Reflect and Amplify used in conjuction can be very effective for those matches where both teams are filled with Silence and Void. In those same matches, Poison can sometimes be the only source of damage. In some cases, Void Armor can be very effective, especially if paired with a Repair.

My Battle : Wands Out battle
My battle had the following configuration: Modern Champion league. 15 mana, rules: Wands Out, Tis but Scratches. Splinters: Death, Water, Dragon.
This is a low mana battle Wands Out battle and in addition we have the Tis but Scratches rule, which limits the effectiveness of healing. Notably, both Water and Dragon are available, and we therefore have the option to use either Djinn Oshannus or Void Dragon, both of which have the Phase and Void abilities. These are very attractive tanks for this battle, but Oshannus is maybe a bit too mana costly.
My lineup
I decided to go with a Void Dragon lineup. For my summoner, I selected Quix because he provides -1 speed, which was the only relevant ability between the dragon summoners I had available. For the remaining 6 mana, I went for a Darkest Mage (cheap) and Dr. Blight because he will have plenty of time to use Poison and Scavenger when we got the Void Dragon tank.
Opponent's lineup
My opponent also decided to go for a Void Dragon tank. They chose Byzantine Kitty as their summoner. For this match, the main reason for picking Kitty is the speed bonus. [Tank Heal] is not very effective when all units have cripple. True Strike can also come in handy, but wont affect Void Dragon since it will have the speed advantage anyway. Their second unit was the Death Elemental, who has Silence, and is a good choice for this match.

Battle progress and Result
My opponent has the speed advantage with both units in this match, and they start by striking my Void Dragon and Darkest Mage. The Void Dragon has Void and therefore takes only 1 damage from the hit, but is also suffers Cripple, which reduced the max health by the same amount. Then its my turn, and my units all land their hits on the Void Dragon. It gets applied Affliction, but it doesn't matter anyway because the Cripple makes sure there is no health left to heal anyway. Unfortunately for me, Dr. Blight does not land Poison.
In the second round, my Darkest Mage dies from the Death Elemental's hit, and my Void Dragon suffers one more damage. Similarly, their Void Dragon takes one damage, but my Blight misses its hit this time.
In round 3, the Death Elemental targets my Void Dragon too, and now True Strike makes sure it can't miss the Void Dragon (who has Flying and Phase, so normally it would have a chance to dodge this hit). My units repeat their actions from round 2; Void Dragon hits, Blight misses.
Round 4 proceeds exactly like round 3.
In Round 5, my Void Dragon dies, but Dr Blight now has a final chance to win the match for me. He lands his hit, but once again the Poison does not get applied. That decides the match.
It still takes another two rounds to end the match, but even if Dr. Blight lands the poison in Round 6 I will not be able to win. In fact, he just misses again, which is to be expected.
In the end I did not get the Poison I needed. Overall, my win rate was about 40% for this battle, so the win was still deserved for my opponent.
