The Growing Challenges of Resource Management
My biggest challenge remains Wood, something I identified as a weakness early on. That’s why I took proactive steps, trading some of my plots within the region to increase my Wood production. However, even with those adjustments, I am falling significantly short of what’s needed to sustain my Research and SPS plots. This means I’m now having to rotate harvests throughout the week, skipping certain operations just to stretch my resources. Worse yet, I’ve had to purchase Wood from the market, something I had hoped to avoid.
While Wood remains the cheapest of the new resources, I am paying for it with Grain, which is proving to be an even greater issue. Grain is needed across multiple aspects of my land operations, and my stockpile—once a strength—is now depleting at an alarming rate. I’m relieved that I held on to all my Grain from Phase 1.5, but I may have overcommitted to Research at the expense of other essential resources.
Long-Term Implications
If the Splinterlands economy continues improving, the situation could become even more challenging. Rising card prices and increasing demand for land-related assets will make the cost of becoming self-sufficient even steeper. At some point, I may have to scale back my land ambitions, especially if sustaining production becomes more expensive than it’s worth.
Despite my frustrations, I still believe in the long-term value of land. This latest phase is a stress tes* for the economy, and while my position isn’t as strong as I had hoped, I do have flexibility. I’ll continue optimizing where I can, leveraging my strengths, and adapting to the shifting landscape.
Time will tell if this is just a short-term hurdle or a sign that my land strategy needs a more fundamental shift. Either way, I’m here for the ride, watching closely as Splinterlands continues to evolve.
