Introduction
Hi! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday.
This is Exploring the Chaos where I take a look on Chaos Legion cards, their stats, their utility and their market price.
Last time, I tackle the Bloodlust ability which we can always saw being played at Guild Brawls but was only recently introduced to ranked battles with the Chaos Legion. Now I will discuss about Deathblow which just like Recharge is quite a difficult ability to use.
Icon | Ability Name | Description |
---|---|---|
![]() | Deathblow | This Monster does 2x damage if their target is the only Monster left on the enemy team. |
Prons
- Deals 2x damage when there is only one monster left on the opponent side.
Cons
- Ability won't trigger unless there is only one monster left.
- Chances are you already won the battle if there is only one enemy left to the opponent line- up.
Like I said, this ability is quite difficult to use, that is because you can only use this when the opponent has only one monster left on his line- up. Although it deals 2x damage to the monster when there is the only one left, there is a strong chance that you can win the fight as long as you have more monster left than your opponent. Another reason that it's difficult to use is that when there is only one monster that is left on the opponent side, it is more likely that your other remaining monster will deal the final blow to the monster not to be able to use the ability. But there are certain situations that this ability is made that I will later discuss on my final thoughts.

Djinn Apprentices prefer to study under more powerful djinn to hone their magic. While not as strong or cunning as others of their kin, they are just as dangerous to untrained warriors.
When the Chaos Legion arrived, it had a diverse effect on the djinn. Not a unified race by any means, some chose to align with the Chaos Legion, some chose to defend against it, and others chose to go their own path and leave it all behind. Djinn Apprentices chose to align themselves with Djinn Inferni, believing in his mission and his vision. Continue Reading...

Zyvax Vuul has dedicated his life to understanding the arcane, covering his body in potent sigils, golden runes that glow with power and feed him his unnatural strength and speed. It has been said that he his knowledge of dragon magic is rivalled by no other and he has been given the tile of ‘The Keeper of Dragons’, but rumour also circulates surrounding a voracious, cannibalistic appetite. Whatever the case, he is not only feared throughout Praetoria, but also within the Chaos Legion itself.
Those few that have witnessed him in combat describe a truly ferocious warrior that can fire his claws at the enemy, only for them to immediately regenerate, ready to tear into his opponents. Many a foe has made the mistake of closing down Zyvax to avoid his deadly volleys but have quickly found him even more lethal up close. Continue Reading...

The Chaos Legionnaires are ruthless warriors and the Chaos Legion's elite fighting force. Alvar Veralyn was conscripted into their ranks at a young age after his family was slain and his world conquered by the Chaos Legion. The harsh conditioning that all conscripts receive nearly broke the child, but in the end, his old, easy way of life was subsumed by the desire for battle and conquest. Alvar dedicated himself to his training, intent on reshaping his mind and his body until he had no equal on the battlefield. Eventually, he rose to the rank of General and now stands as leader of the Chaos Legionnaires.
Alvar is a most imposing sight on the battlefield. His armor is imbued to withstand the strongest of magical attacks, and even the mightiest of foes is no match for his massive, two-handed sword, which some say was forged in the Realm of Nightmare. He lives for battle, wading through his enemies and striking them down as he seeks out the strongest among them to engage in single combat. He enjoys nothing more than watching the life fade from his opponent's eyes. His conquests are legendary even among the Legionnaires, and he earned the title of Godkiller after the Battle of Dargnilat, during which he single-handedly defeated one of the Old Gods. Lyshi was the greatest city in all of Argia. It boasted spectacular buildings, a wealth of cultures, and one of the most formidable militaries to have ever existed. Yet still, it was plagued by rebel insurgents.
These guerrilla forces took to placing explosive charges in the sewers and tunnels beneath the city, wreaking havoc on its defenses, commerce, and general welfare. They were the bane of Argian civilized life. Pledging to end this nuisance once and for all, the Earl Marshall equipped his fire wardens with state-of-the-art bloodfire amplifiers to clear the tunnels. Armed with their new blasting weapons, they became known as tinderlocks and quickly became an effective deterrent against any future sappers. Continue Reading...
Tinderlock has both Last Stand and Close Range at level 1. At level 4, it gains the Silence ability and Deathblow at level 7.

Vampiric blossoms thrive in dense jungle and tropical environments. Vampires enjoy using them as a way to easily catch prey around their manors. These plants have a thirst for blood that has led many unwary travelers to their death.
Vampiric blossoms shoot small darts from inside their petals. These darts embed into the skin of their prey and stun them. Once their prey is down, the vines of these plants slither out to draw the body close. The plant will drink up the blood for nutrients. If there is a cluster of vampiric blossoms in one location, they may drink a body dry within an hour.
Vampiric Blossom has the Opress ability at level 1. In level 4, this card will have the Deathblow ability and at level 8, it gained Immunity.

The living stone creatures known as gargoya are an especially unique result of battle on the other side of the world with the Chaos Legion. Years ago there was a great stone tower, far away from the Splinterlands and taller than any of its buildings. It was the former tower of a conquered lord, empty and protected only by the dozens of magnificent gargoyles that adorned its architecture. When the Chaos Legion first approached from the rift in the stars, great glowing meteors fell from the sky. They crushed the tower to rubble, but the gargoyles were somehow left unscathed. Not only that, but they were now alive; still stone, but alive. They took off as a tribe across the sea to find a new home as their world was essentially destroyed behind them.
Gargoya Devil is a range monster of the Neutral Element. It has the Flying and Close Range ability at level 1 and gains the Deathblow ability at level 4.

Deathblow in Action
Battle 1: Dhampir Stalker
Conditions | Description |
---|---|
![]() Gold League Wild Format | 58 Mana Cap Available Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death |
![]() Target Practice | All Ranged and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability. |
![]() Melee Mayhem | Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position. |
Total Rounds | 6 |
Deathblow Damage | 8 |

With the Target Practice, all range and magic monsters will gain the Snipe ability and at the same time, Melee Mayhem enables melee monsters to attack regardless of their position. With that in mind, I choose the Death Team with Thaddious Brood for my summoner as it gives -1 health and magic de- buff that will nerf any magic monsters that my opponent has and it seems like my opponent has the same idea. My team is composed of Harklaw, Leggionnaire Alvar andOctopider that will decrease the melee attack of the opponent by -3, Phantom Soldier that together with the summoner decrease magic attack by -2, Djinn Muirat that has Void Armor and Magic Reflect to received Snipe attacks and finally Dhampir Stalker that will never miss it's attack.
On round 6, Dhampir Infiltrator 1 hit the Junker which only has 6 health for a total of 8 damage because of Deathblow.
Battle 2:Gargoya Devil
Conditions | Description |
---|---|
![]() Gold League Wild Format | 26 Mana Cap Available Elements: Fire, Life |
![]() Close Range | Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battles. |
![]() Earthquake | Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round. |
Total Rounds | 9 |
Deathblow Damage | 6 |

Close Range allows range monsters to be able to attack even at the first position within this rule set but with Earthquake, monsters without Flying ability will receive -2 melee damage. For this I choose the summoner Tyrus Paladium because my Life deck has more Flying monster than fire and it gives + 1 armor that will not only protect my monster from enemy attack but also from the damage form the rule set. My team consist of Pelacor Conjurer as my tank as it has decent amount of health and has Magic Reflect to return any magic damage towards the opponent,Creeping Ooze to Slow the opponent and to serve as a bait for Opportunity monsters, Celestial Harpy will deal with the opponent that has the smallest health using Opportunity, Light Elemental and Adelade Brightwing to deal some magic damage as well as to Repair armor and Resurect a fallen ally and finally Gargoya Devil as my range monster. Everyone aside from Creeping Ooze has the Flying ability.
On round 9, Gargoya Devil 1 hit the Pelacor Conjurer which only has 6 health for a total of 6 damage because of Deathblow as the Divine Shield from the summoner Lorna Shine was removed when attacked by Adelade Brightwing during round 8.
NoteMajority of the monsters that have the Deathblow ability requires climbing to Diamond league and above in order for them to be useable ad due to the limitations of the league that I am playing at, I was not able to gather battle data from this cards.
Final Thoughts
I really find it very difficult to use Deathblow because it can only be useful when there is only 1 monster left to the opponent team but like any other abilities, there is a moment for it to shine. This are on the cases where like the opponent uses Scarred Llama Mage and Kron the Undying or anyone that has Heal and Last Stand, situations that even when there is only one monster left with the opponent, has still the chance to reverse the result of the game. This is because Deathblow is designed to be able with this kind of situation.
