Introduction
Well we got another town hall this week and I just want to share my quick thoughts on what was said. I also want to share my thoughts on players quitting!
Tuesday Tech Updates
We have made some changes to the interaction between buffs and debuffs to prevent situations where +2 buffs would incorrectly be removed by a -1 debuff under specific conditions. source
Apparently there was a bug with buff and debuffs regarding speed which I wasn't even aware of. I'm glad that this is being fixed as I may have lost some battles because of this bug.
Season reward chest type should no longer reset to Bronze if you skip playing an entire season. Like rating, it should now carry over from the last season finished. source
I think this is also another nice update being added at least it's not too punishing for those that skip playing the game for one season.
There's also apparently a lot of updates to improving the market which I use the rental so I can see the improvements. In terms of speed it has been a lot faster but for some reason after this update, the prices aren't seem to be updating which is making the cards have to be manually chosen instead of going into the cart. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
Cryptomancer Update
Cryptomancer talked about the guild power update from last week. He talked about in the future of being able to contribute more guild power which seems kind of scary to me as I've burned a ton of DEC upgrading buildings. Right now there is apparently project planning for the next projects he's working on. He said that there would be more guild updates coming which I'm looking forward to. He also mentioned that the burning DEC event is coming to an end soon and that prizes are airdropped and that they would need to be claimed. I will be happy if I get anything but I'm not expecting anything considering how low the chances are. Aside from this, he didn't really mention anything new that most people didn't know already for those that stay up to date with what's happening in Splinterlands.
Weirdbeard Update
If not wrong, he mentioned that we should expect SPS staking to replace CP around early July which is awesome. He also talked about being able to rent SPS which would help make it more accessible to everybody. I think this is great for those that are renting and working on building their collection slowly. I also think it makes sense to wait until they implement SPS renting before pushing it out with the SPS staking requirements to earn rewards. He also talked about land 1.5 but I wasn't that interested in this since I don't own any land. It seems like the idea to remove bots in modern league will be happening towards Sept-Aug which is kind of longer than expected. This makes me think that they are really going to kill bots in modern and maybe private bot users can't escape this.
Some Eye-Candy From Nate
Nate shared four images but I only want to talk about the two images I found interesting below.
I'm guessing this is most likely related to renting SPS. It's nice to see that there's progress so it's really coming soon I may have to buy more SPS.
To be honest, I have no clue what this is. This looks like SPS. I'm guessing the I, II, III, IV, V probably represent bronze, silver , gold, diamond and champ. Based on this I think if you reach a certain SPS staking requirement maybe we will get one of those badges to show we can earn for the respective league. The other thing this could be is another event that has to do with burning SPS. If you know, please do comment down below!
Underlock Post On Time Investment + Players Quitting?
Recently, I read underlock's post on time investment in Splinterlands being neglected. I kind of agree with him on this. Before the time of Archmage and Xbot (more accessible high end bots), I think most users would actually get rewarded for their time properly but now we can just spend money for a bot to play which kind of takes this aspect away. It also took the fun away from the game since nobody wants to play against bots that play almost perfect lineups with the cards they are given which created more people to become botters. Now there's even a service called battle helper which is basically giving assistance to manual play which is basically the same as botting but the human player can submit the team.
This had led to a great Japanese Splinterlands player, Schnapoon, to basically quit Splinterlands. He's only going to play brawls and do challenges on SPLTV. According to his post, he doesn't enjoy playing anymore because of XBOT and battle helper. I really feel for Schnapoon. I'm also kind of losing the fun of playing the game and right now to me I'm just barely holding on mainly due to the earning aspect because I think Splinterlands assets has a lot of potential to increase in value. I used to enjoy brawls but I feel like I'm playing against battle helper users and that's no fun.
Another player that seemed to want to quit and sell his collection is Holoz0r. He mentioned in his post that he felt like a fossil and that he's pretty much done with the game and waiting for wen land. He's ready to move on to something else in his life. He probably won't be leaving immediately until someone actually buys out his collection. I don't blame him as this is a normal part of life once someone has done something for a long time in their life, there's a time when they decide to quit and move on to something else.
Besides that, I see countless players trying to sell their account recently in Splinterlands discord. We already know Splinterlands has a bad rention rate and with those that are already in the game and want to quit we are getting less and less real players. This is a huge issue and I don't think the team can only depend on the earning aspect and economics to bring players to this game. This game needs to be more fun and I think one of the steps towards this is removing bots in modern. Let's see how that goes in a few months from now. Hopefully we can see people enjoy the game more.
Concluding Thoughts
We are going to have some excitement soon with land 1.5 and SPS staking requirements on the horizon. I am looking forward to see how this impacts the economy and if people will enjoy playing the land aspect that we have waited so long to get. It's a shame that players are quitting and it's already so hard to get new players into the game. If this keeps on happening, it does make me slightly worried about the future of Splinterlands.
