I agree.
I don't want a return to the old system, but I'd like to see some work done on the current system.
Previously I was frustrated by being "locked into" a league by my inability to fight my way out of the top of any given league, simply put, I am not good enough to beat the best in any league, and that is OK in general...I am Mr Average after all, most of us are..(by definition). But when it locks me out of fully enjoying the cards that I levelled ( and paid well to do so), then it's problematic.
Currently, we have a "go hard or go home" system, where max lvl cards are more or less implicitly mandated, and that's not good either, our ecosystem becomes top heavy and all too often in lower leagues you encounter teams very much above your pay-grade.
There has been much talk, many solutions and ideas proposed, but no action so far. the volume of discussion is a clear tell that this is an important topic.
This proposal was needed to galvanise some change and thought to the matter
My view, for what it is worth, as Mr. Average is that a simple and elegant solution is to allow a player to chose their league at the start of the season.
Once chosen you are locked in for the season and it really is up to you to decide if your deck and skill are viable in that league. Want to play in Diamond with a Bronze deck fine, go for it. If you want to play in Silver but have higher cards, well your summoners will be capped at Silver while you are in that league and you can flex your skillz in the arena you enjoy.
No decision will last longer than a season, you you can sample different aspects of game play and if your deck isn't up to higher level leagues, well, you can rent and dip your toe in before investing heavily in the cards you'll need to buy to be viable.
This system will encourage incremental and strategic deck building, while allowing players to fully enjoy their current deck.
Nothing needs to be changed with reward allocation, that can be the carrot for progression, and still require the same investment in staked SPS (owned or rented) needed to gain the maximum potential rewards for a win
