Ellas viven, sienten... y mueren.
En la esquina de alguna calle frente a alguna casa de alguna ciudad no muy importante, hay un pequeño materito de florecillas. En ése pequeño matero nací yo, Inés, la flor. Soy de esas flores que nadie sabe cómo se llaman exactamente pero todos han visto en algún momento -y también arrancado, tristemente- así sea sin querer queriendo. En las mañanas me gusta levantarme tempranito a ver los lindos colores del cielo crepuscular y saludar a mi amigo, el Sol. A esa hora siempre suelen salir los gigantes extraños con una cara larga pintada de preocupación con una prisa que yo realmente no puedo entender. Nunca he llegado a comprender por qué a ellos no les salen raíces y se quedan quieticos y tranquilos en un sólo lugar; como yo. Mi única preocupación es recibir los rayos del Sol diariamente y tomar mucha agua. El agua suelen dármela las nubes, pero eso sucede muy de vez en cuando y nunca he entendido por qué, a lo mejor es porque el cielo, como todos los seres, suele entristecerse y llora para desahogarse. Cuando las nubes no me dan el agua, me las da una de los gigantes que camina muy lento y está toda arrugadita. Nos riega y cuando el cielo no ha llorado por muchos días nos dice que somos sus niñas consentidas y toda clase de cosas bonitas, pero a veces hace cosas que contradice estas que dice y dudo si en realidad nos quiere de verdad. Yo creo que es sólo porque somos bonitas y por eso siempre se ha llevado a mis amigas más lindas, como a Laura, que se fue hace quince días... La extraño mucho. Yo últimamente me he puesto muy bonita -eso me dicen mis amigas- y seguro a mí también me llevará pronto. Pensar en eso me llena el pecho de emoción, porque seguramente así podré reencontrarme con todas mis amigas y... yo ya no puedo esperar.
On the corner of some street in front of some house in some not very important city, there is a small flower planter. In that small flower planter I was born, Ines, the flower. I'm one of those flowers that nobody knows exactly how it's called, but everyone has seen at some time -and also plucked, sadly- even if they didn't want to. In the mornings I like to get up early to see the beautiful colors of the twilight sky and greet my friend, the Sun. At that time strange giants always come out with a long face painted with a worry that I can't really understand. I have never understood why they don't grow roots and stay still and quiet in one place; like me. My only concern is to receive the sun's rays daily and drink plenty of water. The water is usually given to me by the clouds, but that happens very occasionally and I have never understood why, maybe it is because the sky, like all beings, is often saddened and cries to blow off steam. When the clouds don't give me water, I get it from one of the giants who walks very slowly and is all wrinkled. She waters us and when the sky has not cried for many days she tells us that we are her spoiled children and all sorts of nice things, but sometimes she does things that contradict these she says and I doubt if she really loves us. I think it's just because we're pretty and that's why she's always taken my prettiest friends, like Laura, who left a fortnight ago... I really miss her. I've been getting very pretty lately -that's what my friends tell me- and I'm sure she will take me soon, too. Thinking about it fills my chest with emotion, because surely this way I will be able to meet all my friends again and... I can't wait any longer.
