Today's Reading
- Question: Tell me about our search for a house/home.
I chose to do two readings today - both Lenormand and the Mahjongg oracle, which I find complement each other very well.
First, the Mahjongg
I need to do a how-to post on Mahjongg, but for the moment, I need the reading more...
There is only one official spread for this oracle. It's designed to do certain things - which it does well.
We start this reading...
- Center - gives us a quick snapshot about the situation being asked about.
C - the Unicorn (9 circles) - this card is about clairvoyance and the ability to see ahead. In this position, it's almost always a fortunate sign. The mission to find a house/property to buy will be a successful one.
- East - the lower three cards - this area is reflexive, about the querent.
First, we read the outside cards for hints about our exterior part of our personality.
We have:
1 - Heaven (9 wan) - this is probably indicating my desire to get settled (end of cycle), and focus on other things - i.e. just living with my family.
3 - Carp (4 bamboo) - the carp hints at peace, contentment and longevity - which seems to very well support the heaven card.
The middle card is more about internal qualities.
2 - West Wind - this card is about partnership - which probably just means that I have to work with my husband on this.
Note: At this point, the East section all makes sense, so we can feel confident about proceeding with the reading.
- South - the right-hand three cards - these tell about the near future, possibly by month.
4 - Seven stars (7 wan) - this card is about inner hopes, dreams, ambition and is almost always positive. I interpret this to indicate that my hopes and dreams are immediately relevant in the search for a home.
5 - Duck (2 bamboo) - this is another partnership card. In the south, it's predicting happy times spent with another. Hopefully, this promises some level of harmony in what can be one of the most contentious decisions many married couples make.
6 - Carp (4 bamboo) - This lovely peace and contentment card again. But here, it's talking about a long journey. I suspect this one is figurative rather than literal. This journey to find a house is going to be a long journey, but one which will (hopefully) lead to peace and contentment.
- West - (across the spread) this is where we see obstacles and a potential solution.
The outer two cards are the obstacles which we read first.
We have:
7 - Jade (4 circles) - this card in this position warns that the journey will require hard work. Are we up to the task?
9 - North Wind - Often, this card warns about financial problems, but in this position, it's about trouble with authority. So, perhaps we will run into some legal issues regarding the place we wish to buy... things that will have to be resolved.
So, what's the solution?
8 - Water (6 bamboo) - short journeys and/or correspondence will be key. I.e. e-mails, telephone calls (which cause me anxiety), traveling to/from the neighboring town, will be required. Hard work...
- North - this area (to the left) will provide extra information either positive or negative.
10 - South Wind - promises help when most needed and recovery from the financial challenges of buying a home.
11 - House (5 wan) - in this position - both in the future and next to the South Wind, this seems to promise that we will get there and will find peace and contentment there.
- Outcome - the final card.
12 = East Wind - This card often points back to the self, but it also has to do with Spring - and new beginnings, which seems completely appropriate for this reading.
Takeaway - Overall, this is a very positive reading. There's no bad surprises in there - just the things we mostly already knew - that we're going to have to work together and be prepared for things to take longer and require more work than expected/desired. But in the end, things will work out well.
Second, the Lenormand
Let's see if we can get more enlightenment here.
I'm using my (personal) standard 11-card spread (the final couplet being obtained through adding the numbers across the center to find the outcome.)
- First step is to read across the middle.
New path (Stars) to peace (Flute) gives results (Talking Stick) to make woman (Woman) happy (Flowers). Seems straight-forward and very positive, but let's look a bit deeper.
- The center card is the main issue in the reading.
Talking Stick - is about communication, documents, results. It's also about working with others. (Think about the purpose of the talking stick.)
Surrounding cards are the Canoe plus the Dog - Traveling companion. So, hubby's involved as appropriate. A reasonable "central issue" here.
- Leading up to the current situation, we look at the first two cards (plus the ones above/below.)
Stars plus the Flute - Success with/for an older man... A place to retire could also work... there are often multiple ways to put the cards together, so go with what seems correct. This couple is further developed by:
Moon plus Child - Emotive new start, fertility, new beginnings. Looks like what we're trying to achieve - with the older man in my life. (Hubby is 6 years older than myself.)
- We also pair the "mirror" cards...
Stars plus Flowers - Achievements, hopes and dreams (seems to be mirroring the mahjongg here...)
Flute plus Woman - This seems to be hinting at our relationship, perhaps how this will strengthen us as a couple (in the absence of many negative cards).
- Following the current situation, we look at the final two cards (plus the ones above/below.)
Woman plus Flowers - This seems very straight-forward (as Lenormand often is) that this will lead to the happiness for the woman (me.) However...
Cliff + Rider - Here is the first negative card in the spread. However rather than huge obstacles that the cliff (or mountain) can bring, this seems to be just delays in communications (something hinted at in the Mahjongg again.)
- Outcome Pair of Cards
Add the digits of the cards across the middle. The number was: 111, itself an auspicious number - I'll get back to that in a minute.
Add those digits together until the answer equals a card number. 3 Canoe
Subtract 36 from the number until the answer equals a card number. 3 Canoe again.
I then use those two numbers as a card or card pair to describe the outcome of the current situation.
3 Canoe - Again, we have a long journey. The entire way along this, we've seen signs that it will be a lengthy journey, but that we'll get there.
111 - this is one of those "Angel numbers" that we talk about sometimes. According to this site, this number is about new beginnings and returning to oneself... sound familiar?
This is another very positive reading over all.
I need patience (I hate that), but we'll get there in the end - the place for us to call 'home' is out there - and not even very far away into future. It's just up to use to find it (and to be patient as a very brisk sales market begins to slow as many people move out of state with the slump in Wyoming oil.)

May I read for you?
If you would like a reading, please comment with a question (not yes/no, please). A good question would be: "Tell me about the future of Hive." (Rather than: "Will Hive succeed?")
Each post (hopefully weekly on Tuesdays), I will feature one question that was posed to me on the previous post - or privately via Discord. (viking-ventures #2883.)

Feb 2019, I began designing a new Lenormand deck so that I can give you readings for Tarot Tuesday. I finally completed my deck in Mar 2020 just before the Hive Fork.
