Week 37 has begun with very few entries which I expected. It’s just been a little over 24 hours though, but I have already seen a lot of not so good entries. This was something I complained about last week and it’s really sad to see it. I wonder how the judges feel listening to people who enter the competition but do something different from the instructions given. The theme clearly states 1930-1940 songs, yet there are those who do modern day songs and when I check the comment, we see a lot of people applauding such entries. Now I’m not trying to talk down on people who make mistakes because I have been in a position where I did not know there was a theme and was really embarrassed after discovering there was one and I did not know.
However I was also surprised no one mentioned my mistake to me and I had to discover myself which I did not think was right. It’s good when people are politely told their mistakes so they don’t make such mistakes again, and when they do so again, you know it is no longer a mistake but intentional. I think it will help raise the quality of entries we have, but first, the standards must be set, and I think it’s a bit low. I really appreciate the sponsors of this competition, I can’t begin to imagine what it costs to get this competition going every month and that is why I feel it will be a great Idea to raise the standards a bit high.
Talking about good entries though, the only entry I have enjoyed so far is an entry that really surprised me. I never knew the song ”You are my sunshine” is a 1940 song. I was really shocked when I heard @lyon-89 sang it. Right now I’m listening to the original version and just vibing to it. I think most songs in the 1930s-1940s era focused more and the lyrics while beate just complimented it. I think every artist entering should learn from this and not just try to sing an old school song, but also be old-school. Now I’m going to go think about my next entry.
