Disclaimer: I did not set out to get this game because I was not interested in another survival game especially when I had just purchased Mortal Online 2 about a month or so ago. You could see my initial experience of that game here. That experience changed of course but my friend did not like it in the end even though they convinced me to get it, that would be another post which I probably will not do since I am busy grinding in Planet Icarus. Well I was gifted this game by the said friend since he wanted a willing companion to slug it out in this harsh new world. A post apocalyptic kind of game where you are one of many colonists tasked to try and survive in Icarus.
A trophy of our friendly local.
These guys have been a bane in our existence planet side. Our living room in this prospect. The game consists of us dropping planet side to complete tasks for the collective. Not sure why we not all just drop into the planet and colonise it proper but I guess that would change the whole premise of the game.
A view of our stone house.
I was not the builder of our home and my friend could not get the walls to like up properly between inside facade to exterior ones. You can see the wooden frame on the left side. The controls in the game sometimes are confusing. That is what playing survival games are these days. A collection of moments where you just want to pull your hair from frustrations to eventual elation in mastering something you may or may not experience in future games.
Our hunting hide for the Alpha wolf.
You need protection from this beast. So it is a good idea to make sure you have a platform where it cannot tear you to pieces. Some structure that gets you off the floor and is sturdy or it will just break apart.
Bows do not work as well as you expected.
When you are unable to finish the Alpha you just have to roll you sleeves and start stabbing it like there is no tomorrow. The bugger hides in its lair to regenerate it health so when you have hurt it enough times you just get your knives out and start to bum rush it to kingdom come.
Fur on my neck
All that work deserves a selfie with our friend after we bid them goodnight.
Off to the snow.
One thing my friend and I have agreed on is that when you play survival games and it is directly controlled in gameplay progression the settings gets harder and harsher. Rug up by grinding for furs from the local fauna. Have a supply of walls and a camp fire in hand when the blistering blizzards comes. There are polar bears who are strong and vicious.
The warmth of the hearth.
It gets so cold that you do get damage even when you are fully rugged up. This is when we found out having readily available materials for a quick shelter in the snow is imperative.
Our desert adventure begins.
A hole in the mountain is the way into the desert. We had managed to get the minerals from our last prospect so we are now doing a desert adventure or prospect.
A friendly sleeping local visits.
We accidentally locked a deer inside our base. It died from starvation. That is what my friend told me. I am convinced though that he killed it for food.
Sand in my eyes.
Sand storms are no joke. My advice for would be prospectors is to stand still and get into some sort of shelter because the sand does eventually get inside your suits and start to chafe you in the thighs.
Wonder if this dripping carcass will get me cool.
Spoiler: It does nothing other than make you look cool like a huntsman.
That looks ominous.
I venture too far from our makeshift shelter and get caught in another sandstorm. Again the lessons have not been learnt by me in having materials to build a makeshift shelter.
No more sand.
A new prospect in greener pastures with plenty of water. The river lands. Has a nice ring to it.
They lied
We are dropped into the dunes to suffer endless attacks by cougars, hyenas and giant scorpions.
Our makeshift shelter.
It did not hold out against the sandstorm. We found out at this moment that stone walls are the way to go.
Remembering rescuing my friend.
We were stuck in our makeshift shelter so my friend decided to turn it into a proper base but the attacks were very frequent. The spot he chose was an animal trail for the cougars, hyenas and giant scorpions.
The only way into the river lands is up.
Where there is a will there is a way. The people from the floating spaceship didn't tell us we had to scale up this cliff so some wooden structures should do the trick to climb up and over.
The river lands.
It has a big river through it so I think that is why it is called the river lands. Hmmm..
If you don't take pictures the
At this point in the game we had already done 50 hours of gameplay. We were experts.
Then the rain came.
The trees are more dangerous than the rain.
I need a rescue.
And if the trees don't kill you the fauna does.
Up we go again.
Engineering at its finest. The human will does not get swayed away from relative danger.
I will have to leave here my dear readers. I hope I did not do the Icarus injustice with my adventure.
