As Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote: "When God wants to punish someone, he first takes away their mind." This quote perfectly reflects the deteriorating state of UbiSoft. It started with mass production of games with mechanics that were too similar. I may be wrong, because I rarely played their games, and therefore I don't know them, but it seems to me that this practice has been growing over the years. More and more players complained about it until the bubble burst and the company is being punished for everything. This is evident from the fact that average games are too often equated with poor products. It probably wouldn't have happened so quickly if it weren't for their support for DEI and other, numerous mistakes (e.g. The Crew 2). In my opinion, players overestimate the importance of DEI in the fall of the French company. I don't think it's complete nonsense, but I disagree that it's the main reason for their fall. In my opinion, their fate is due to the excessive production of only average games, pride, and too slow development of their main brands. I rely on player feedback on this, and it just so happens that even AC fans or "DEI critics" (who aren't necessarily fans of the series) have pointed this out years ago. I remember reading for years the fans' requests and numerous comments online that the next part of AC would be released in Japan. I myself spoke under one of the news on some website (I didn't have Facebook back then) that even I would gladly play such a version of AC. I am not a fan of this production. Sure, I was fascinated by the first part, like many people, but after the premiere of the third part I knew that they would milk this brand until it stopped. Even then I tried to follow reviewers who had something sensible to say and were not afraid of criticism. They reminded the French that their games were too similar to each other. Returning to Japan, because I changed the subject - I remember how in one thread, more experienced players said that Ubi had hit a golden goose, thanks to which they could sell anything, even if it was too average.
Well, it was like that for many years. However, it does not last forever, and if the reputation is not very glorious, its owners get hit for every nonsense. Many athletes and politicians have learned this many times. In Poland, we have a saying: "Pride comes before a fall." UbiSoft was exceptionally arrogant. Now I won't cite all the examples, but if you follow the gaming industry, you've probably heard of some. Even if most of them are lies or half-lies half-truths, at least (apart from what I've already written) 3 of them are true: falsifying the story about Yasuke, their approach to DEI, and cheating and milking players. The latter is their own doing, true, but it ruins the entire market and, consequently, society. Just like the public promotion of OF and pornography. Oh w8, pornography... I forgot about the sex scandals related to Ubi. I don't know the details, but I read about it on my friend Desther's blog on FB. So the pride of Ubi's top employees was manifested in the fact that they can do whatever they want to people (like Blizzard, literally like Blizzard) and that they can cheat and deceive their customers.
As for Yasuke, I defended UbiSoft on this matter from the beginning. Why? Because I've heard about him for years. I also know that the Japanese are a nation of sailors and they've definitely caught at least a few of them. I read about them. For years I thought it was true. True, the Japanese are terrible racists, but they are not idiots. At most, they are arrogant and blind, just like all people. They could not brag about them, like Hiroyuki Sanada with his Gaijin in the series Shogun (I highly recommend it!!!). There was also an anime about Yasuke, which strengthened my belief even more. If it weren't for the discussion caused by AC: Shadows, I would probably still think that the Black Samurai by that name really existed. I was lucky enough to come across statements from several people on the internet who supposedly did in-depth research. You know how it is with comments on the internet - everyone here has a million dollars in their wallet, a sexy model as a wife, works as a leading Nvidia programmer... However, they spoke sensibly, used specific words, it was obvious that they knew Japan. I myself am interested in topics related to the Land of the Rising Sun, so I could verify it at least on this level. Deeper verification would be too time-consuming, and even impossible, because I would have to reach for primary sources. Historians did it for me - I did not find any text in which there would be specific evidence or at least strong circumstantial evidence proving that Yasuke was a great samurai. Yes, he existed. Heck, he was neither the first nor probably the last, but he could only have been a warrior's vassal.
Due to numerous controversies (player mockery, Japanese people complaining about changes to their story, complaints about excessive similarities to Ghost of Tsushima), UbiSoft moved the game's release date to March 20. You probably don't know what happened that day. I'm not surprised. This event took place in 1995, and for 30 years there have been many attacks, cult attacks and other human tragedies. However, we are not the ones who earn big money for checking things like the leading UbiSoft employees. On March 20, 30 years ago, the Supreme Truth cult dispersed a poison gas known as Sarin. 12 people died and over 5 thousand of them were injured. They still struggle with depression, breathing difficulties and brain damage to this day. In the comments under one material on YT, I read that these people still require constant medical care. I will not give an analogous example from Poland, but I will give another, more understandable one. Imagine that UbiSoft planned the premiere of a game about the USA on September 9. Let it be the Wild West, the Civil War, Thanksgiving or another important event for them. Only instead of the Black Yasuke, there would be an immigrant from China, Johnny. I can laugh at some absurdities in the US or Japan, but at the same time I understand their attitude.
A lot indicates that AC: Shadows will not save the company. So what is left for them? From what I see from the list on GamesRadar, they have announced: AC: Infinity, Anno 117, AC: Jade, Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence (both titles are for phones), Sands of Time remake (which was already canceled once), AC: Hexe, Beyond Good and Evil 2 (now without the original creator - he was fired for alleged toxic behavior and more, although he claims otherwise - I'll put the links at the bottom), Project U, Splinter Cell remake and Tom's Clancy The Division 3. Far Cry no longer enjoys the reputation it did a few years ago. The next part of HoMM (was not included on the list, but let's agree - if Ubi has a knife at their throat, they will release this game quickly), just like Anno, will not sell several million copies. These genres may not be dead, but it is too small a niche. Phone games can make money, but they will not save the studio. I don't know about games signed with Tom Clancy's name. AC's reputation is getting worse and worse. Prince of Persia is not a very respectable brand at the moment, and Project U has a mega random title.
It doesn't look like any game will save UbiSoft. Their stock market situation isn't very good either. Someone will buy them sooner or later, probably Tencent. The French have many brands that can still make a lot of money. They just need to think about how to do it and implement their plan properly. That's all. But before they buy them out, they'll wait until UbiSoft bleeds out - that way they'll be cheaper and make more concessions. This will be beneficial for the players, because if such a large company goes bankrupt, the others can note and describe their mistakes.

Zaczęło się od masowego tworzenia gier o zbyt zbliżonych mechanikach. Mogę się mylić, bo rzadko grałem w ich tytuły, a co za tym idzie nie znam ich, ale wydaje mi się, że ten proceder narastał przez lata. Coraz więcej graczy na to narzekało aż bańka pękła i firmie dostaje się za wszystko. Widać to choćby po tym, że przeciętne gry są zbyt często równane ze słabymi produktami. Prawdopodobnie nie doszłoby do tego tak szybko, gdyby nie ich poparcie dla DEI oraz inne, liczne błędy (np. The Crew 2). Moim zdaniem gracze przeceniają znaczenie DEI ws. upadku francuskiej firmy. Nie uważam, że to kompletne bzdury, ale nie zgadzam się co do tego, że to główna przyczyna ich upadku. Moim zdaniem ich los wynika z powodu nadmiernej produkcji jedynie przeciętnych gier, pychy oraz zbyt wolnego rozwoju ich głównych marek. W tej kwestii polegam na opinii graczy, a tak się składa, że nawet fani AC lub krytycy "krytyków DEI" (którzy niekoniecznie są fanami tej serii) zwracali na to uwagę już lata temu. Rozwinąłem tę kwestię w 2 części tekstu o HoMM, który opublikuję w najbliższy czwartek.
Pamiętam jak przez lata czytałem prośby fanów i liczne komentarze w sieci, by kolejna część AC działa się w Japonii. Sam zabrałem głos pod jednym z newsów na jakieś stronie WWW (wtedy jeszcze nie miałem Facebooka), że nawet ja bym chętnie zagrał w taką wersję AC. Nie jestem fanem tej produkcji. Owszem, byłem zafascynowany 1 częścią, jak wielu ludzi, ale po premierze 3 części wiedziałem, że będą doili tę markę do oporu. Już wtedy starałem się śledzić recenzentów, którzy mają coś sensownego do powiedzenia i nie boją się krytyki. Wypominali francuzom, że ich gry są do siebie zbyt podobne. Wracając do Japonii, bo zmieniłem temat - pamiętam jak w jednej nitce, bardziej doświadczeni gracze mówili, że Ubi trafiło na złotą kurę, dzięki której mogą sprzedać wszystko, nawet jeśli będzie zbyt przeciętne.
Cóż, przez wiele lat tak było. Jednak jednak nie jest wieczne, a jak reputacja nie jest zbyt chwalebna, to jej posiadacze dostają ciosy za każdą bzdurę. Liczni sportowcy i politycy wielokrotnie się o tym przekonali. W Polsce mamy takie powiedzenie: "Pycha kroczy przed upadkiem". UbiSoft był wyjątkowo arogancki. Teraz nie przytoczę wszystkich przykładów, ale jeśli śledzicie branżę gamingową, to na pewno słyszeliście o niektórych. Nawet jeśli większość z nich to kłamstwo lub pół-kłamstwo pół-prawda, to co najmniej (pomijając to, o czym już napisałem) 3 z nich to prawda: fałszowanie historii o Yasuke, ich podejście do DEI oraz oszukiwanie i dojenie graczy. To ostatnie na ich własne życzenie, fakt, ale psuje to cały rynek, a co za tym idzie, społeczeństwo. Dokładnie tak jak publiczna promocja OF i pornografii. Och w8, pornografia... Zapomniałem o skandalach seksualnych związanych z Ubi. Nie znam szczegółów, ale czytałem o tym na blogu kolegi - Desther na FB. Zatem pycha czołowych pracowników Ubi przejawiała się tym, że mogą robić z ludźmi co chcą (jak Blizzard, dosłownie jak Blizzard) oraz że mogą oszukiwać i mamić swoich klientów.
Jeśli chodzi o Yasuke, od początku broniłem UbiSoft w tej materii. Czemu? Bo przez lata słyszałem o nim. Wiem też, że Japończycy to naród żeglarzy i na pewno złapali co najmniej kilku z nich. Czytałem o nich. Przez lata myślałem, że to prawda. Fakt, Japończycy to straszni rasiści, ale nie są idiotami. Co najwyżej bywają aroganccy i ślepi, dokładnie tak samo jak wszyscy ludzie. Mogli się nimi nie chwalić, tak jak Hiroyuki Sanada swoim Gaijinem w serialu Shogun (bardzo polecam!!!). Powstało jeszcze anime o Yasuke, co dodatkowo umocniło mnie w tym przekonaniu. Gdyby nie dyskusja spowodowana AC: Shadows, prawdopodobnie do dziś uważałbym, że Czarnoskóry samuraj o tym imieniu istniał naprawdę. Miałem to szczęście, że trafiłem na wypowiedzi kilku ludzi w internecie, którzy rzekomo zrobili dogłębny research. Wiadomo jak to jest z komentarzami w internecie - każdy tutaj ma milion dolarów w portfelu, seksowną modelkę jako żonę, pracuje jako czołowy programista Nvidii... Aczkolwiek mówili sensownie, używali konkretnych słów, widać było że znają Japonię. Sam się interesuję tematami związanymi z Krajem Kwitnącej Wiśni, więc mogłem to zweryfikować przynajmniej na tym poziomie. Głębsza weryfikacja byłaby zbyt czasochłonna, a wręcz niemożliwa, bo musiałbym sięgnąć do źródeł pierwotnych. Zrobili to za mnie historycy - nie znalazłem żadnego tekstu, w którym byłyby konkretne dowody lub przynajmniej mocne poszlaki świadczące o tym, że Yasuke był wielkim samurajem. Owszem, istniał. Ba, nie był ani pierwszym ani zapewne ostatnim, ale mógł być jedynie wasalem wojownika.
Z uwagi na liczne kontrowersje (wyśmiewanie przez graczy, Japończycy narzekający na zmiany w ich historii, narzekanie na nadmierne podobieństwa do Ghost of Tsushima), UbiSoft przeniosło datę premiery gry na 20 marca. Pewnie nie wiecie, co się stało tego dnia. Nie dziwię się. To wydarzenie z 1995, a przez 30 lat było wiele zamachów, ataków sekt i innych ludzkich tragedii. Jednakże to nie my zarabiamy grube pieniądze za sprawdzanie takich rzeczy, jak czołowi pracownicy UbiSoft. Otóż 20 marca 30 lat temu, sekta Najwyższa Prawda, rozproszyła gaz bojowy znany jako Sarin. Zginęło 12 osób, a ponad 5 tysięcy z nich zostało poszkodowanych. Do dzisiaj mierzą się z depresją, trudnościami z oddychaniem i uszkodzeniami mózgu. W komentarzach pod jednym materiałem na YT, przeczytałem że ci ludzie do dzisiaj wymagają stałej opieki lekarzy. Nie będę podawał analogicznego przykładu z Polski, ale podam inny, bardziej zrozumiały. Wyobraźcie sobie, że UbiSoft zaplanowało premierę gry o USA 9 września. Niech to będzie Dziki Zachód, Wojna Secesyjna, Święto Dziękczynienia lub inne ważne dla nich wydarzenie. Tylko zamiast Czarnoskórego Yasuke, byłby imigrant z Chin, Johnny. Mogę śmiać się z pewnych absurdów w USA, czy Japonii, ale jednocześnie rozumiem ich postawę.
Wiele wskazuje na to, że AC: Shadows nie uratuje firmy. Co zatem im pozostało? Z tego co widzę z listy na GamesRadar, to zapowiedzieli: AC: Infinity, Anno 117, AC: Jade, Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence (oba tytuły są na telefony), remake Sands of Time (który już raz skasowali), AC: Hexe, Beyond Good and Evil 2 (już bez oryginalnego twórcy - został wyrzucony za rzekome toksyczne zachowanie i nie tylko, choć on twierdzi że było inaczej - linki umieszczę na dole), Project U, remake Splinter Cell oraz Tom's Clancy The Division 3. Far Cry nie cieszy się już taką renomą, jak kilka lat temu. Kolejna część HoMM (nie została uwzględniona na liście, ale umówmy się - jak Ubi będzie miało nóż na gardle, to szybko wypuści tę grę), podobnie jak Anno nie sprzeda się w ilości kilku milionów kopii. Te gatunki może nie umarły, ale jest to zbyt mała nisza. Gry na telefony mogą zarobić, ale też nie uratują studia. Nie wiem jak z grami sygnowanymi nazwiskiem Toma Clancy'ego. AC mają coraz gorszą renomę. Prince of Persia nie jest obecnie zbyt poważaną marką, a Project U ma mega randomowy tytuł.
Nie zapowiada się na to, by jakaś gra mogła uratować UbiSoft. Ich sytuacja na giełdzie też nie jest zbyt dobra. Ktoś ich kupi prędzej czy później, prawdopodobnie zrobi to Tencent. Francuzi dysponują wieloma markami, dzięki którym nadal można zarobić dużo pieniędzy. Wystarczy pomyśleć, jak to zrobić i porządnie zrealizować swój plan. Tylko tyle i aż tyle. Tylko że zanim ich wykupią, to poczekają aż UbiSoft się wykrwawi - dzięki temu będą tańsi i pójdą na więcej ustępstw. Wyjdzie to z korzyścią dla graczy, bo jak padnie taka wielka firma, to pozostałe może zaczną myśleć i zrozumieją swoje błędy.
