Hey gamer, welcome to another game post of mine. Funny enough, in my last post, I spoke about how I was so stressed from work yesterday, but I was still able to unlock the next chapter in the Legend Mode of Ghost of Tsushima. Funny how things are, the post did well, and I was almost going to not write about it. Well, as they say, little wins go a long way.
If you haven't read the post, you can check it out:
Unlocking a new chapter in Tsushima
Today, I was tasked with creating new designs to roll out on the company's social media handle, and one of the designs was a children's day design as a means to celebrate the upcoming Children's Day. The deadline is on Friday, and I was struck with a designer's block where I didn't know how to go about it or even what to design.
Take note: I had to take a picture of the game with my phone since screenshots could not work on the game.
The Lead Stepped In
My design lead noticed I experiencing a block, and his advice was that when I get home after closing hours, I should do something that connects me to my past childhood, or better still, in his words, remember what it feels like to be a child.
When I got home, I knew games were the best part of my childhood, and that is what will help in giving me the inspiration I need to create the design. But I didn't know the game that will do the magic trick. After a conversation with my work buddy, he asked I should simply write down the games I played as a child and see what comes up. And that is where Virtual Cop came on board.
After Downloading....
I downloaded the game from a generic site that looked funny, but I was glad to see I could play it. The game had not changed a bit, and for the first time, I was super glad a game hadn't seen any change. Clicking on the arcade mode to play took me back to my childhood days when I used to play the game on my friend's computer, and we would take turns on who would last the longest before getting a game over.
Medium Mode
I played the medium mode because I was unsure how easy beginner was going to be since it had been years since I last played. The medium mode took place in a ship harbour, where the robbers had taken control of the harbour. I began to take out the robbers one after the other, and the game's motion was a slow as well as its animation, which is expected as this game was released in 1995.
Take Away from the Game
After playing for two hours, I concluded that the inspiration I was looking for all along was to just remain free-spirited. That is the thing about being a child, you are free to think and have the childlike innocence in your thinking. This is how I should be approaching the design. Make it feel like passing across the message in the most childish way possible. The design is going to be for Children's Day, so stay childish. Well, I will stick with that and experiment on my designs, let's see where that leads.
That is it for now.
See you in the next game.
