Hey everyone! So as most of the garden I started earlier this year is coming to an end, I have new life with the Yellow Watermelon I started a few weeks ago. Should be interesting to see if I am able to pull this off in this time of year. After the last post I was going to compost the corn, but I found an even better use for it. Mulch!
That's right, just as you can use straw to retain moisture in the soil, dried corn plants can be used in the same manner. Great thing too, because I would have not gone to the store to get some. Making use with what I already have has been the main objective for my garden. The only thing I am spending is my time, and energy.
It also comes at a great time since our warmer months are usually in September, and October. Last week a heat wave hit, but I did not have these in the ground yet, and I was able to water daily. Since it is time to transplants these, and I am going to be out of town, having the mulch down is going to be very convenient!
The dry fertilizer, and liquid are from my previous cannabis grow, which I have been using time to time in this garden.
First I mended the soil with the dry fertilizer, and gently set the root ball in the hole.
Then applied my homemade mulch. Since it can get a little windy here, I also threw a little dirt on top to weigh the corn pieces down a bit.
I made sure my melons had ample space to grow out this round. Lets hope they can use the space!
The tomatoes are about done. I would say I have two more harvests before it will be time to compost.
I was pretty stoked to get a few Habaneros! I actually had another one the other day, and it was 10x hotter then the one I ate on camera! Even though I was hurting, I still find the taste of habaneros to be so good! I think I will get a few more peppers, so I also put some mulch down just in case. Light showers are in the forecast, but I am not going to count on it. We need rain so bad here, and none has dropped in months. So lets hope the mulch does its job, since I leave tonight, and wont be back till Monday to tend to the garden again. So stay tuned my friends. Oh, and one more thing. There is still Glass Corn on the side that has a couple weeks left. So some Corn Porn is in the works, in the meantime check out this one...
