I never imagined running a 10K race, much less finishing it within just 1 hour and 30 minutes. The anticipation, the nervousness and the will all combined as we waited at the starting line. It was our first fun run something we had been anticipating for months. It was on our bucket list for the year and at last the day had arrived. As we gather at the starting line, I could feel my heart racing. The group of people surrounding us was brimming with excitement with individuals stretching, talking and preparing to run. There were experienced runners and others such as ourselves who were first timers. There was excitement as well as a sense of being overwhelmed. The race began and we set out on our first steps.
Initially, everything was easy. The morning breeze and crowd cheers made it even more enjoyable. I could also hear the soothing rhythm of footwear striking the pavement the laughter and words of motivation from other runners. It was a great moment of unity and motivation. The first kilometers went by quickly. We ran by inside the business park, capitol and the volunteers who provided water. Each step was an accomplishment and I couldn't help but grin. I made a conscious effort to breathe well and maintain a consistent pace. Finishing was not our sole intention, but also enjoying the run.
The fun run also taught us a lot of things not only about running but about life itself. One, it made us realize that challenges should be met head-on. There were times during the race when we wanted to give up but because we pushed forward even though we were struggling the victory was so much sweeter. Second, we understood the role of goal-setting. Having something to aim at finishing the race in 1 hour and 30 minutes reminded us to go on. With no goal set, it would be easy to lose direction. But with insistence we were able to show everyone that we are capable of performing what we wished to do. Third, we understood the merit of patience and perseverance. With success, comes no overnight transformation. It calls for time, effort and dedication. No matter what the road ahead is like, the important thing is to continue moving forward.

Having run our first 10K we are more eager than ever for the next challenge. We're already searching for the next fun run to participate in. Maybe a half marathon someday? Who knows? The world is our oyster. One thing is certain this experience has transformed us. It has given us more confidence, more discipline and the willingness to face challenges more. The medal we won is not a metal it's a symbol of our hard work, determination and success.
I urge everyone to have a go at a fun run at least once. It's not running it's about achieving targets, challenging boundaries and enjoying success. If we can do it, then you can. Here's to more races, more victories, and more experiences we will never forget. We can't wait for the next experience.
