I volunteered to help at Henlow Bridge Lakes parkrun again today. The number of runners has been fairly low and other people need a chance to run. There were 72 runners today, so that was a slight improvement on last week.
I was stationed on Pooh Bin Corner, which is at the start of the finish straight. You can see that it was a lovely morning and I was actually getting quite warm. I had a good chat with some of the other marshals as we got organised. There has been a rule change from parkrun HQ that will ban people using waist harnesses when they run with dogs as it seems this is thought to have more risks than a regular lead/leash. A lot of dog owners are not happy with this, but the organisers here feel they have to abide by the decision.
I was on the lane that leads up to the old Henlow Grange and I assume this was the gatehouse. It has some nice chimney pots. It is noisy there as the main road is just behind the house. I could still enjoy some birdsong and a robin was singing away in a tree above me. I have heard that birds are affected by human noise as it can drown them out.
I got to see all the runners go past me three times, so I could see some progress of the race. A guy in his 40s was leading the first two times, but by the last lap he had been overtaken by a lad of about 14. You get all levels of runner at parkrun with some mostly walking. I had to wait a fair while for the tail walkers to reach me for the last time so I could pack up the signs and hand in my high-viz.
I am going to an open mic tonight, so I need to practice some songs today. Also need to do some shopping.
Have a great weekend.
