On my morning browsing about Hive, I try to read a few posts by people I don't remember having seen before. They are not necessarily new to the community, but it's goo to sometimes get out of the same old worn tracks.
As is the way of the world, some are great, some leave me shaking my head and most are pretty middle-of-the-road.
Checked out the profile of one particular person who seemed to have written a decent/interesting enough post but noticed (when looking at the post list on their profile page) that every single post, going back several months, looked exactly the same, except for a new title every day.
"What do we have here? Someone who just copy-pasta's the same thing over and over, hoping to get rewarded?"
No. Actually that was just what it looked like on the surface.
What we really had was a legitimate user making decent enough posts... but who was using @peakd's "template" function — likely in hopes of saving time and keystrokes — for basic formatting, tags and such... and who was forgetting to update the line that shows up as the first 140 characters in post listings, for each new post written.
In the end, a fine example of why it's so important to always pay attention to the details, even when all you want to do is run your world pretty much on autopilot. Or you're so busy that every time-saving device is needed, just so you can keep up.
I suppose we all have our natural talents and priorities in life, and this made me think about how "attention to details" has historically been my own best "competitive edge."
It reminds me of a conversation I was having with a friend some months back... who likes to go gold panning in riverbeds up in the mountains. During our conversation, he allowed as how — if we were living in olden days — he would likely have been someone getting his gold from "mine tailings," rather than from trying to stake and mine a gold claim from scratch.
"I'm just better at finding the bits others have missed than I am about finding the right place to be, to start with."
I suppose it also speaks to our overall approach to life.
Do we go after the possibility of striking it rich, or do we go after "the sure thing" that will have significantly lower results, but at least we will have results, at some sort of acceptable level?
Or do we go after the "hidden gems" that are actually hidden because the majority of the world look at them and declare "I can't be bothered, takes too much attention!"
I have always taken the patient, long-term, attention-to-details path through life... much as I am doing with my Hive journey, as well.
I recognize that "my way" will likely take longer than that of others, and will progress in smaller increments, but that's OK! Progress, is progress, right?
One of the things I have learned in life is that if you keep on piling up "virtually nothing" for long enough, it actually ends up becoming "something."
In this modern world of ours, we've been conditioned to expect everything now, now, now, NOW and such ideas as quiet patience has been almost entirely forgotten.
Along with that, people say "they don't have time" to mind the tiny little details.
Which is a shame, because they do matter!
