Coffee is not the best thing to keep anxiety at bay. Actually, if you suffer from bad anxiety, it would be a good idea to give up on coffee. It can cause many problems from headaches, to anxiety attacks.
However, since in LATAM we are introduced to the ritual of drinking coffee from an early age, we do not pay attention to this thing. Nor do we pay attention to health is the actual good sense. We like walking things off. Not the best practice, but it is a cultural thing .
Last Wednesday, I had a morning date with @octocel. It had been a really long time since we had one of those. The idea was going for coffee. But I did not know then that she had a good reason for going on a date. She was a handful of anxiety that day. The reason? She was still expecting some things she bought on Amazon that were arriving this week. To be exact, they arrived that very day.
She had been checking the status updates of the delivery all the time since the first update came from the P.O. Box. And she had been creating all these scenarios about the things that could go wrong.
What was I doing? Well, reassuring her that things will get to her in one piece and working. And they did in the end, but we had to go through all the stages of anxiety to get to that point.
Scenarios, weird behavior, tremors were among the symptoms of this anxiety bout. We did get to talk about some other things while we were having our coffee and for a moment she got her mind away from the delivery. But from time to time, she would go back to the page to check the status.
We did spend some hours walking about the mall and talking about many other things. Some of them were about how to combat anxiety. We might put them to the test in the future. Whether they work or not, remains to be seen.
Our final act was going over the office of the delivery service to check that the packages were arriving that very day, but they had not yet. I went back home. At night, she sent me a photo of the package already in her hands. And everything was working just fine as expected.
