Well hello there my wonderful #WednesdayWalk family around the world!
I hope that you are all well and out there, getting that fresh air, seeing the sights and hearing the stories, ready to share here with us today.
So with a HUGE thanks to @tattoodjay for creating this community for us to share our lives, our stories and our adventures in, without further ado, I would like to share with you another part of my BIG BIRTHDAY BASH from October/November last year and it was one of the best walks I have ever been on.
And after looking through this pictorial WALKING tour of the Rocks, you will see from my post in last week's #WednesdayWalk community here @chocolatescorpi/jdzkmcrk and here @chocolatescorpi/finally-able-to-share-some-of-my-photos-from-the-tall-ship-tour-on-sydeny-harbour why I was soooo happy to go sailing in the Southern Swan after the end of this walk!
And we're only halfway there too! π€£
So let's get this tour started!
I made my way here- to the historic Rocks area, through the market here
to see this beautiful tree lined street, named Argyle St [//]:# (!pinmapple -33.85918 lat 151.20801 long d3scr)
to wait on the corner of Argyle and Harrington, opposite the old red phone box at the Clocktower Square, To meet the sensational Sofi, our expert tour guide for the Rocks Walking tour. https://www.rockswalkingtours.com.au
As soon as the rest of the group arrives, Sofi took us on on a magical tour of the Sydney Rocks, circa 1788 and beyond.
The first place hat Sofi took us, was this old house- Home and working quarters of one of the very first settlers, a convict named William Randolph- a Highway Robber in his previous life back in Britain and a Blacksmith in his new life in the colonies of New South Wales.
Sophie went onto explain how the water well was designed and worked
And then she took us down the historic, Suez Canal
Where she introduced us to some of the locals loitering around along the way
And showed us the Nurses Walk, where the very first nurses in Australia (of European descent...) used to take this shortcut through to the very first hospital around the corner.
Sofi then took us through this most amazing and mysterious and totally gorgeous labyrinthine, where I discovered the most coolest bars (unfortunately closed at the time (or fortunately..π€£...)
where we stopped and she gave us some information on the historical significance of this amazing maze
And ofcourse, I just had to shoot the shit out of it to capture its life, soul and stories from every angle- which unfortunately just not do it justice...
UNTIL...Sofi eventually took us through the old narrow corridor, (where I desperately wanted to sneak downstairs to explore further)
And what was so special about that old building and why did we stop to talk about it for so long you ask...?
well for those of you that are not familiar with this term, in this context certainly it meant Opium House of old.
And then out into the colour of George St, past the historical shops such as this pharmacy
Across the street
and up and around the corner towards the Discovery Centre to discover this great little courtyard, with a mural of the timeline of the colonisation of Sydney painted on the wall
where Sofi again imparted her detailed knowledge of this area
And here are some closeup of the mural by the talented artists, Michael Lynn https://www.facebook.com/michaellynnmuraldesigns
Zoom in so you too can see the timeline from when the British first invaded and colonised the nation and 'civilised' the First Nations peoples by any and all methods and means necessary...
Soon we walked through another maze and again across the road to the back of Cadmans' Cottage
And then down to the Habourside to check out the front of the Cottage
So for this episode of this fascinating Walk around the Rocks with the sociable and entertaining Sofi from The Rocks Walking Tour Sydney https://www.rockswalkingtours.com.au/walking-tour/ I will leave you to ponder the statue of William Bligh gazing out into the Harbour https://australian.museum/about/history/exhibitions/trailblazers/william-bligh/
So stay tuned till next Wednesday when I share the rest of this brilliant tour with you all.
