Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
I've shared about my streaming journey on Twitch and the art I've done for my Twitch channel and this time, it's bit tier emotes! Viewers can show their support to streamers by giving them bits, aka cheering, and one bit is one cent. So once you reach a certain amount of bits contributed to a channel you unlock bit tier emotes in that channel.
Here are some older bit emotes I did that were really rough, and in dire need of an upgrade. I did these when I first started in 2021, and now that my art has improved I thought I'd just do an overhaul of all of them.
I actually really like the "Make it Rain" one but it's really rough so I wanted to redo and upgrade it further. I found quite a few references for a better one, including this one that looked pretty good.
Then I saw this one and I thought a money gun would be a perfect way to upgrade it and make it more flashy, since this was going to be unlockable at 25K bits contributed, which is $250. It's quite a bit of money so I wanted to make an emote that would match that vibe, and dual-wielding money guns seemed perfect.
This was the sketch I came up with. The hands were a little tough but I think I managed the best I could.
It was time for the outline and colour! First I worked on colouring the TacoCat.
Then I outlined and coloured and hands and money gun. I was thinking of using a different colour since my TacoCat is yellow and I didn't want it to blend in too much but I went with the gold just to see how it would look. It actually looked really good so I just stuck with it. Of course I used the same shade of green for the money as in the previous emotes I did.
After that it was just a matter of filling in the rest of the money.
And after adding some shadows, we get this!
I thought the money outlines were a bit too thick at first, but then I remembered the emote is going to be reduced to 50x50px and I still want the outlines to be visible so thicker is better. This is what it looks like in chat:
I thought it looked really good and while you can't really see the guns too well in the emote you can kind of see it's supposed to be making it rain money. I did try making the guns bigger but I also had to fit in the money and I didn't want it to obstruct my TacoCat too much.
Overall, I think it still looks miles better than the old one and pretty high quality I'd say. I can't think of anything I would change. I think my community would agree with me as well.
So far I've only unlocked 5 bit tier emotes available on my channel, so we have one final piece to go!
Here's the whole bit emote showcase:
