Greetings All!
I know it is later than my usual posting, but the new job is keeping me super busy! Enjoy the update!
After countless lives were destroyed by the System, eventually, a Champion was ready to face and destroy the Dragon. The fight had been epic as the beast had been cornered on a planet, gorged fat with the lifeforce of the inhabitants. It did not go down without a fight, but to no avail. Eventually, the dust settled, and the Champion stood victorious.
There had been celebrations, and the Heavenly believed that they too were soon to pass, but they didn’t. There had been confusion and then horror. As they had been born with the ability to use the energy siphoned by the Dragon to create Favours, the Dragon too had been born with a gift. Immortality.
However, this immortality wasn’t like that of the gods, no. This was a corrupted form and one that already had the means to spread, and spread it did.
Now that the Fell Dragon was dead, there was no use for the Champion. Powerful and barely help in control with the controller module, it wasn’t possible to just kill them. So, the Dekai did what they were good at. Hiding the evidence. The Champion was forced into the cage that once held the Dragon and was left to rot.
This would be the final mistake the Dekai would make, for while the first Dragon was held captive within the cage, it had used the knowledge of the Dekai consumed to make some changes, changes the Dekai knew nothing of.
The Champion didn’t die. No, the Champion came back reborn as the new Fell Dragon. Improved with the ability to raise its own lifeforce, making it even more powerful. That was the start of the arms race between the Dragon and the Champions that would kill it. The first Dragon had ensured that it would keep coming back over and over, and the Dekai could do nothing because the cage was the only thing that could contain the made beast or Champion.
The Dragon had played them, and the Heavenly silently celebrated. They would live, but there would be a cost. The Fell Dragon would always be there in the cage. There would always be Champions who would face it, and in turn become the new Fell Dragon.
Yes, the Heavenly tried to understand how the cage had been adapted by the Dragon, and while it took several cycles of Dragons and Champions, they were horrified to find out that it was the controller module that had sealed their fate. It was being linked to the cage and the memories of the Fell Dragons before were directly being added to the Champion’s mind. Driving the madness.
Yet, the Heavenly didn’t speak about this. The Dragon lived, and so did they. They kept it to themselves. Yet, as they watched cycle after cycle, they realised they needed a different plan. A plan to have the Dragon sleep more deeply instead of facing off against an adversary all the time. It sensed the danger; it knew the universe wanted it dead. The mixture of Dragon and Champion memories made the creature feel the unfairness, the injustice, and the need to survive, which overcame all intelligence in the end. Starting the cycle once again.
There needed to be a break. There needed to be something to maintain the cage, feed the Dragon, and keep it asleep. So much time had passed now that the reason the Kai created the beast was long gone, and the Dekai were tired of the fighting. All the Heavenly had to do was convince one to help them. One with the ability to move through time and obey them like gods.
Edzeeker.
He had been instrumental in creating the System that created the Champions. Perhaps he could be one who could be trusted to help the Heavenly once more. Shareik just needed a way for the Dragon to sleep. Once it was asleep, it only needed to be maintained in that state. Sure, it would be sacrificing a few planets and species once in a while, but the rest of the universe would be safe.
Shareik approached Edzeeker separately from his brothers. He outlined his plan of creating servants that would gather the energy needed to feed the Dragon. Edzeeker, tired from all his years of fighting the Dragon, also had an idea. He wanted to hide the Dragon and the cage in an unreachable place. A place that had developed thanks to the Heavenly. The time corridors.
It was one of the only ways that the Heavenly had managed to travel the way that they did. Shareik had hesitated about letting the Dragon have access to what he had thought were their sacred grounds. But Edzeeker had been so convincing. His arguments sound. Only the Heavenly knew how to travel those corridors, and it would add another layer of protection to keeping the Beast contained.
Anyway, if there was a breach from the cage, an exit could be built to allow the Dragon out into the actual universe, instead of letting it loose amongst the Heavenly. It was a good plan. Shareik had trusted Edzeeker. He had brought him to the time chambers and showed him how they worked. It was from here that Edzeeker was able to learn to travel through time and dimensions as her completed his research.
Shareik had trusted him. Especially when the transfer of the cage to the Time Corridors worked! The Dragon hadn’t been pleased. It had thrashed at its confinement until it realised that it was being fed a steady supply of life force, delivered to it by the newly constructed Wolven. Everything seemed like it was going well, and it was! But Shareik had trusted the wrong Edzeeker.
Well now, things are getting complicated!
