Greetings earthlings! I made a post exactly 2 weeks ago about my first engagement competition using #science and #stem tags in order to promote a bit more posts using the tags. The goal was mainly to try to popularize STEM topics which usually makes people run away. It is fun to see people participating and telling us their experiences with STEM topics. You don't need to be a professional in the area to like it. The same thing with my passion for music. I am not a musician, I don't play any instrument, but I like music and I like to talk about it ( I know it has been a while that I don't post about music). The link of the post you can find in here .
I enjoyed some of the feedback from the initial post. The first was the great number of comments and engagement. Even people who didn't participate in the challenge gave some support to the idea. So that is an amazing push for me to continue to promote this type of initiative. Second of course I would like to thank the brave participants, we had four (please correct me if I missed someone). Before I announce the prize I will talk a bit about what they brought if you guys missed it
@ladyaryastark's participation was amazing! She brought up an educational problem that I also faced, at least in my country. The focus is on teaching STEM disciplines without any context and much more on memorization. The author remembered that she was good in math, but nowadays, that has no value since she never found a context for applying those learnings in the real world. I see that as an educational failure! Maybe the author could have a different future if she knew the reason for using some formulas learned in her childhood. I am from the same generation as the author and I see that school failed a lot with me and other colleagues. Hopefully, the generation of my daughters will have more opportunities in this aspect.
@davideownzall showed us his love for space and told us a bit about Apollo missions. For sure those missions brought us a bit of dreams about us as a species could indeed walk outside of our planet. The first man on the moon and many other moon missions were canceled after the last mission. This didn't mean that we were done with the space exploration, but new projects came with other focuses. Probably the author is following also some of them like the Ocean Worlds Exploration Program. We have some oceans of liquids (including water but not only that) in our solar system and soon we will send probes to explore these places.
The author @coyotelation also brought the space as a topic of his enjoyment. He enjoys science fiction movies that bring him some possibilities about space exploration and how the Elon Musk spaceship landing technology caught his attention. He mentions in his post about other advances such as how we understand much and much about the universe every time that passes. He cited the asteroids, probably from the asteroids belt between Mars and Jupiter, which includes also a dwarf planet called Ceres in the middle. I just learned about Ceres and other dwarf planets only recently after buying a book about the solar system for my daughter. I stopped in the time when I learned that our solar system had still 9 planets, which we know now that the 9th is actually a dwarf planet, Pluto and also we gain some other similar objects.
Last but not least, @wiseagent told an interesting story that matches a bit with my experience, he also joined biology studies to follow his dream of studying the ocean and its living beings. In his post, he reminds us how unexplored is the ocean and how many questions are similar to those that we point to outer space. Also, he explains why he decided not to continue as a professional in this area which is a totally common decision that I saw in many University colleagues. Science is a tough work area, where you study a lot and that doesn't mean that you will find work waiting for you after the studies and also even finding a job, you will see many friends with fewer studies getting a better income most of the times, between other difficulties that life bring us.
Let's pack this post since I already wrote a lot! I need to pick an author to get the big pot and all of them touched on something that I really enjoy and it is related somehow of how STEM topics touch their curiosity. Since it is our first engagement competition I will pick @ladyaryastark and @coyotelation as both winners of 10 HSBI each. In addition, I will give 5 hsbi for both @davideownzall and @wiseagent as a second place for both! Ok let's go with the next engagement, for this I will initially give an extended deadline of 4 weeks (1 month) since we have the holidays coming. I am also giving two options for topics. Also, I appreciate some feedback about this system. :)

Saudações terraqueos! Fiz um post exatamente 2 semanas atrás sobre minha primeira competição de noivado usando as tags #science e #stem para promover um pouco mais de posts usando as tags. O objetivo era principalmente tentar popularizar tópicos STEM, o que geralmente faz as pessoas fugirem. É divertido ver as pessoas participando e nos contando suas experiências com tópicos STEM. Você não precisa ser um profissional na área para gostar. A mesma coisa com minha paixão pela música. Não sou músico, não toco nenhum instrumento, mas gosto de música e gosto de falar sobre ela (sei que já faz um tempo que não posto sobre música). O link do post você pode encontrar aqui .
Gostei de alguns dos comentários do post inicial. O primeiro foi o grande número de comentários e engajamento. Até mesmo pessoas que não participaram do desafio deram algum apoio à ideia. Então, esse é um incentivo incrível para que eu continue promovendo esse tipo de iniciativa. Segundo, claro, gostaria de agradecer aos corajosos participantes, tivemos quatro (por favor, me corrijam se esqueci de alguém). Antes de anunciar o prêmio, falarei um pouco sobre o que eles trouxeram, caso vocês tenham perdido
A participação de @ladyaryastark foi incrível! Ela levantou um problema educacional que eu também enfrentei, pelo menos no meu país. O foco está em ensinar disciplinas STEM sem nenhum contexto e muito mais em memorização. A autora lembrou que era boa em matemática, mas hoje em dia isso não tem valor, pois ela nunca encontrou um contexto para aplicar esses aprendizados no mundo real. Vejo isso como um fracasso educacional! Talvez a autora pudesse ter um futuro diferente se soubesse o motivo de usar algumas fórmulas aprendidas na infância. Sou da mesma geração da autora e vejo que a escola falhou muito comigo e com outros colegas. Espero que a geração das minhas filhas tenha mais oportunidades nesse aspecto.
@davideownzall nos mostrou seu amor pelo espaço e nos contou um pouco sobre as missões Apollo. O autor @coyotelation também trouxe o espaço como um tópico de seu prazer. Ele gosta de filmes de ficção científica que lhe trazem algumas possibilidades sobre exploração espacial e como a tecnologia de pouso da nave espacial de Elon Musk chamou sua atenção. Ele menciona em seu post sobre outros avanços, como o quanto entendemos muito e muito sobre o universo a cada vez que isso passa. Ele citou os asteroides, provavelmente do cinturão de asteroides entre Marte e Júpiter, que inclui também um planeta anão chamado Ceres no meio. Só recentemente aprendi sobre Ceres e outros planetas anões depois de comprar um livro sobre o sistema solar para minha filha. Parei no tempo quando aprendi que nosso sistema solar ainda tinha 9 planetas, que sabemos agora que o 9º é na verdade um planeta anão, Plutão e também ganhamos alguns outros objetos semelhantes.
Por último, mas não menos importante, @wiseagent contou uma história interessante que bate um pouco com a minha experiência, ele também entrou para os estudos de biologia para seguir seu sonho de estudar o oceano e seus seres vivos. Em seu post, ele nos lembra o quão inexplorado é o oceano e quantas questões são semelhantes às que apontamos para o espaço sideral. Além disso, ele explica por que decidiu não continuar como profissional nesta área, o que é uma decisão totalmente comum que vi em muitos colegas de universidade. Ciência é uma área de trabalho difícil, onde você estuda muito e isso não significa que você encontrará trabalho esperando por você depois dos estudos e também mesmo encontrando um emprego, você verá muitos amigos com menos estudos obtendo uma renda melhor na maioria das vezes, entre outras dificuldades que a vida nos traz.
Vamos embalar este post, já que eu já escrevi muito! Preciso escolher um autor para ganhar o grande prêmio e todos eles tocaram em algo que eu realmente gosto e está relacionado de alguma forma a como os tópicos STEM despertam sua curiosidade. Como é nossa primeira competição de engajamento, escolherei @ladyaryastark e @coyotelation como vencedores de 10 HSBI cada. Além disso, darei 5 hsbi para @davideownzall e @wiseagent como segundo lugar para ambos! Ok, vamos para o próximo engajamento, para isso darei inicialmente um prazo estendido de 4 semanas (1 mês), já que temos as férias chegando. Também estou dando duas opções de tópicos.
