Today we will continue with the Sivas part of our series, which is now a classic and unfortunately slowly coming to an end, because although it seems that there is not much to talk about in Sivas, it is a city full of culture and artefacts, although not my favourite, usually madrasahs and mosques.
Last time we were in Shifaiye Madrasa. I would also like to add something. It is strange that these buildings are generally thought to be mosques by those who do not know because even the name is not a mosque. In these buildings, unlike mosques, lessons were given like a school, although they were not equal to today's education. Especially science lessons. This is the most important difference.
Izzettin Keykavus I Tomb and Healing Centre
Now we're going with you to the tomb of someone important. So we're going to the tomb of someone important in his time. Izzettin Keykavus I. He ruled between 1211 and 1220 and ascended to the throne after great ‘conflicts’ with his brother Alaaddin Keykubad. I think Beril has started with the conspiracy theories again, he died in 1220 after suffering from tuberculosis caused by his brother.

The photos you see above are from the tomb. The blue embroidery is made of tiles and, as far as I remember, clay. It is a Seljuk design influenced by classical Islam. While trying to be flamboyant, it also tries to be modest at the same time. The crowdedness is the opposite of Topkapı Palace, which is the first part of this series. I think this is one of the big problems of architects and engravers. There are no animal, flower and woman patterns normally used. It's a pity.
Let's go back to Keykavus for a moment because even Ibn-i Bibi mentioned him and used these words:
An exceptionally benign and competent ruler as well as he was described as just, wise, fond of scientists, good-tempered, generous, securing and not grudging his compliment for the people who were competent at fine arts and music, giving importance to the medicine and physicians because of his being ill at the last days of his life.
After hearing these beautiful words, the idea that a courtier, especially a sultan, could contract tuberculosis in an ordinary way seems absurd.
It is also written in the article that physicians and medicine were given importance because of his illness. There is also a healing centre where his tomb is located. Although the entrance to the mausoleum is the place you see here, the healing room is at the back.
In my opinion, the entrance of the shifahanah is more magnificent than the entrance of the mausoleum. The carvings are much more beautiful. Stone carvings look more attractive and authentic than tiles.
Sivas Congress Building/Museum
As you can guess, this congress building is not a simple building. Think about it, even the name is obvious for my Turkish friends. Sivas Congress. As a result, it is one of the congresses that we are moving step by step towards the beginning of the war to establish our country. One of the steps of the Independence Road, which was continued with the good reaction received after the Erzurum Congress.
If I come to the architectural part of the work, we see the type of glass used in the windows of the building at the beginning of the Republican period. There are still hints of the Ottoman type, but it is possible to say that it carries the effect of gradual progress and interaction with Europe. Since there was no technological development coming from the east at that time, the westward progress and migration from villages to cities had begun.
We will not see the whole museum with you because it is very complicated and I don't remember everything, unfortunately.
One of the first printing presses of the Republic of Turkey, and in my opinion the most important one because the İrade-i Milliye Newspaper, which was established while trying to build the republic, was printed on this printing press.
This newspaper was printing newspapers that were used to share very important information to the public. Imagine, your country/imperial empire is on the brink of extinction and a brave man comes along, says ‘I am here, this is not over yet’ and then saves you from extinction under the exploitation of Europe. Unfortunately, we have seen examples of these in the world very closely. We even STILL see them.
It must have been one of the last phaetons used by Atatürk before his death. Especially when he was visiting Sivas.
Here, they introduced the local clothes of Sivas region by region. I think it would have been much more beautiful if they were on mannequins, but I was pleased to find information on these clothes. In fact, although they look the same to us, to someone looking from the outside, they are actually very different from each other and this is how they understand which village they are from.
In this photo, there are sculptures of a famous painting that we have seen many times, with the original clothes worn by the people there. It is not easy to find such clothes, although in the later part of our trip in Anıtkabir, photography was forbidden in some parts, contrary to what we could see.
This part belongs to Aşık Veysel. According to what I have learnt recently, he is from Sivas. In those parts of the world, his voice would be very flaming, the flaming heart of the old generation seems to be absent nowadays. You more or less know or have heard of Aşık Veysel. He is a great poet. He is also known for being blind. His ear heard what his eyes could not see, so he sang like that. There is even a story. I would like to mention it briefly.
His wife got tired of Veysel's needs. Veysel was not a stupid man, he always knew that his wife would run away. That's why he used to put money in his shoe so that she would take it when she left. He was in a bad situation wherever he went. Oh pure of heart. No one deserves you. According to one of the rumours, the woman took the money and ran away. According to the other, she put the money back and prepared her breakfast in the morning.
Unfortunately, I have nothing left to tell about this museum except the history of the republic. I don't want to tell that here either. My fingers can't keep up with what my tongue says.

In fact, it was not a very tiring day, but I would like to remind the last section that it is almost impossible to travel by car in Sivas and we just walked.
While waiting for the coffees we ordered, we realised that our break time was already over. We took our coffee in paper cups and set off again. Sivas was hotter than I expected, frankly. Maybe it was because of the time we came. It seemed a little cold. I may not have felt it because I was walking. Nevertheless, it is a city that should be carefully prepared against all kinds of cold because I remember very clearly the cold I felt at the airport after getting off the plane. Fortunately Havaş was going everywhere.
After this, we will continue on our way to the next city. Central Anatolia was a completely different experience for me. So I will try to take this place a little more seriously when I write.

En son Şifaiye Medresesi'ndeydik. Bir de bir şey eklemek isterim. Bu yapıların genel olarak bilmeyenler tarafından camii sanılması garip çünkü ismi bile cami değil. Bu yapılarda camiden farklı olarak günümüzdeki eğitimle eşit tutulmayacak olsa da okul gibi ders verilirdi. Özellikle de bilim dersleri. Aradaki en önemli fark bu.
I. İzzettin Keykavus Türbesi ve Şifahanesi
Şimdi ise sizinle önemli birinin türbesine gidiyoruz. Yani zamanında önemli birisinin mezarına gidiyoruz. I. İzzettin Keykavus. 1211 ve 1220 yılları arasında yöneticilik yapıyor ve tahta da kardeşi Alaaddin Keykubad'la çok büyük "çatışmalar" yaşayarak çıkıyor. Bence, Beril yine komplo teorilerine başladı, kardeşinin sebep olduğu verem hastalığı ardından 1220'de vefat ediyor.
Bir düşünsenize, bir padişahsınız ve halkla buluşmamanıza rağmen verem kapıyorsunuz, vefat ediyorsunuz, sihirli bir şekilde sizden sonraki tahta geçecek kişi kavga ederek tahta çıktığınız kardeşiniz. Bana abartıyorsun diyebilirsiniz ama bence bu böyle oldu. Ayrıca işin içine biraz drama katmakta zarar yok değil mi? 😂
Yukarıda gördüğünüz fotoğraflar türbeden. İşlemeler mavi işlemeler çiniden ve hatırladığım kadarıyla kilden. Klasik İslam etkisinde kalmış bir Selçuk dizaynı. Gösterişli olmaya çalışırken aynı zamanda mütevazi olmaya da çalışıyor. Kalabalık olması gösterişi ve bu serinin ilk bölümü olan Topkapı Sarayı'nın tam tersi. Sanırım mimarların ve işlemeciler büyük sorunlarından birisi bu. Normalde kullanılan hayvan, çiçek ve kadın desenleri yok. Ne yazık.
Keykavus'a geri dönelim biraz çünkü kendisinden İbn-i Bibi bile bahsetmiş ve bahsederken de bu sözleri kullanmış:
Adil, âlim, bilginleri sever, iyi huylu, cömert; şairleri, güzel sanatlar ve musiki erbabını koruyarak iltifatını esirgemeyen; hayatının son senelerini hastalıkla geçtiği için hekimlere ve tıbba önem veren müstesna yaradılış ve yetenekte bir hükümdârdı.
Bu güzel kelimeleri duyduktan sonra bir saraylının, özellikle de padişahın veremi alelade bir şekilde kapabileceği fikri saçma geliyor.
Ayrıca yazıda hastalığından dolayı hekimlere ve tıbba da önem verildiği yazılmış. Türbesinin bulunduğu yerde de aynı zamanda bir şifahane var. Türbenin girişi bu gördüğünüz yer olsa da şifahane arka tarafta.
Şifahanenin girişi bence türbenin girişinden daha şatafatlı. İşlemeleri çok daha güzel. Taş oymaları çinilerden daha çekici ve otantik duruyor.
Sivas Kongre Binası/Müzesi
Bu kongre binası aslında basit bir bina değildir tahmin edebileceğiniz gibi. Düşünsenize isminden bile belli Türk arkadaşlarım için. Sivas Kongresi. Sonuçta ülkemizin kurulma savaşının başlangıcına doğru adım adım ilerlediğimiz kongrelerden biri. Erzurum Kongresi'nden sonra alınan güzel tepki ile birlikte devam edilen İstiklâl Yolu'nun adımlarından biri.
İşin biraz da mimari kısmına gelecek olursam yapının pencerelerinde bizim Cumhuriyet zamanının başlangıcında çokça kullanılan cam tipini görüyoruz. Hâlâ Osmanlı tipi esintileri var fakat yavaş yavaş ilerlemenin ve Avrupa ile etkileşime geçmenin etkisini taşıdığını söylemek mümkün. O zamanlarda doğu kısmından gelecek herhangi bir teknolojik gelişme yakın olmadığından batıya doğru ilerleme ve köyden kente göçler de başlamıştı.
Sizinle birlikte bütün müzeyi görmeyeceğiz çünkü çok karışık ve her şeyin en olduğunu hatırlamıyorum ne yazık ki.
Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin ilk matbaa makinalarından biri ve bence en önemlisi çünkü cumhuriyeti inşa etmeye çalışırken kurulan İrade-i Milliye Gazetesi bu baskı makinasında basıldı.
Bu gazete döneminde çok önemli bilgileri halka paylaşmaya yarayan gazeteleri basıyordu. Düşünsenize, bulunduğunuz ülke/imparotorluk bir yokoluşun eşiğinde ve bir yiğit çıkıyor, geliyor, diyor ki "Ben buradayım, bu daha bitmedi." ve sonra sizi Avrupa'nın sömürüsü altında yok olmaktan kurtarıyor. Dünyada bunların örneğini ne yazık ki çok yakından gördük. Hatta HÂLÂ görüyoruz.
Atatürk'ün vefat etmeden önce kullandığı son faytonlardan biri olsa gerek. Özellikle de Sivas'ı ziyaret ederken.
Burada ise Sivas'ın bölge bölge yöresel kıyafetlerini tanıtmışlar. Bence mankenlerin üzerinde olsalardı çok daha güzel olabilirdi fakat bu kıyafetler üzerine bilgi bulabilmek beni sevindirdi. Aslında bize, dışarıdan bakan birine, göre aynı gibi görünseler de aslında birbirlerinden çok farklılar ve hangi köyden olduklarını da bu şekilde anlarlarmış.
Bu fotoğrafta ise bizim defalarca gördüğümüz meşhur bir resmin oradaki insanlar tarafından giyilmiş orijinal giysileri olan heykelleri bulunuyor. Bu tarz kıyafetleri bulabilmek kolay değildir her ne kadar gezimizin ilerleyen bölümlerinde Anıtkabir'de, fotoğraf bazı kesimlerde yasaktı, görebileceğimizin aksine.
Bu kısım ise Aşık Veysel'e ait. Kendisi yeni öğrendiğime göre Sivas'lı. O taraflarında sesi pek bir yanık olur, eski nesilin alev alev yanan yüreği şimdilerde yok gibi. Az çok bilirsiniz ya da duymuşsunuzdur Aşık Veysel'i. Kendisi büyük bir şair. Kör olması ile de bilinir. Gözünün görmediğini kulağı duyar da öyle söylermiş. Hatta bir hikâye de var. Kısaca değinmek isterim.
Karısı artık Veysel'in ihtiyaçlarından yorulur olmuş. Veysel de aptal bir adam değil ya, karısının kaçacağını bilirmiş hep. Bu yüzden de ayakkabısının içine para koyarmış ki kadın giderken alsın bu parayı. Gittiği yerde kötü duruma düşmüş. Ah kalbi temiz insan. Seni hak eden olmamış. Kadın da rivayetlerden birine göre parayı alıp kaçmış. Diğerine göre ise parayı geri yerine koyup sabahına kahvaltısını hazırlamış.
Bu müze ile alâkalı anlatacak bir şeyim kalmadı ne yazık ki kocaman bir cumhuriyet tarihi dışında. Onu da burada anlatmak istemem. Dilimin söylediğine parmaklarım yetişemez.
Son
Buradan sonra biraz mola için bir yerlere oturduk. Aslında çok yorucu bir gün değildi fakat geçen bölümü hatırlatmak isterim ki Sivas içerisinde araçla gezmek neredeyse imkânsız ve biz sadece yürüdük.
Sipariş ettiğimiz kahveleri beklerken bir baktık ki mola zamanımız dolmuş bile. Kağıt bardaklara kahvemizi alığ yine yola koyulduk. Sivas beklediğimden daha sıcaktı açıkçası. Belki de bizim geldiğimiz zamandan kaynaklıdır. Biraz soğuk kırılmış gibiydi. Yürüdüğümden dolayı da hissetmemiş olabilirim. Yine de her türlü soğuğa karşı dikkatli bir şekilde hazırlanıp gidilmesi gereken bir şehir çünkü uçaktan indikten sonra havaalanında hissettiğim soğuğu çok net hatırlıyorum. Neyse ki Havaş her yere gidiyordu.
Buradan sonra ise yolumuza bir sonraki şehrimizle devam edeceğiz. İç Anadolu bölgesi benim için bambaşka bir deneyimdi. Bu yüzden burayı biraz daha ciddiye almaya çalışacağım yazarken.
