I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I am not very good, so I give myself to writing first thing in the morning. Of course, I will share this post in the evening. I just wanted to write. Besides, today we are going to a wonderful place with you. We are going to a place where I am moving forward with the help of our head guide at a point where I do not believe in myself due to my physical characteristics and illnesses. There is also another wonderful point where we will go later. You can already understand from the cover photo and the title.
I can say that an underground city was waiting for me but I didn't know it because they usually don't let people with certain diseases into these places. After all, it is very difficult to enter and exit.
Kaymaklı Underground City
Actually, I had the chance to take some photos of the first entrance after we left, but I would like to share them with you first. Kaymaklı Underground City and Göreme Open Air Museum are close to each other, but our first stop was Kaymaklı since we didn't go to Derinkuyu Underground City.
When you reach the settlement, one of the first things you see is the Kaymaklı Culinary Arts building.
In general, it is a building that fits the authentic idea of ‘* Fairy Chimneys*’ and is also reminiscent of the architecture of the old period. I think there is no harm in calling it a pre-Republican building. Wonderful paintings were made on the surrounding walls.
There are pictures of other famous and not so far away parts of Türkiye. The ancient city of Aspendos attracted my attention the most because I haven't had the chance to go there yet. I would like to be able to visit and explore the Mediterranean region.
I didn't want to take photos because it was very crowded beyond here, but there are souvenir sellers in those parts. Frankly speaking, it is very expensive, of course I know that it can be handcrafted, but I don't want to pay 700 TL for a hot air balloon figurine that is no longer than 5 cm. It is too expensive for local tourists, and I think that when we convert it to USD, 20.26 USD is also expensive for foreign tourists.
When we were heading towards the entrance to Kaymaklı, I remember that even though we had the approval of the Ministry of Tourism, they were a bit of a problem, so instead of waiting for news and wasting time, because the areas we were going to visit were only for walking and they were very big, our head guide said that everyone could enter the museum card and we proceeded in this way.
I didn't have any problems travelling through these parts. I think there were slightly taller people staying in these parts or they made them as big as possible because food was brought. I remember that we could pass through the carvings like doors with 2 people. In general, I tried not to do this because I had the reservations of being plus size. I tried to come from behind by hearing the guide as much as possible with other tall and close friends of my size.
While short people are usually made fun of, jokes were made with tall people here. In this way, I even made a few friends by staying behind. In other words, I had the chance to get a little closer to people with whom I could not communicate much because they were sitting far away from me on the bus.
We came across kitchens, cellars and small rooms. I understand there was something that was there then but not now: A door! Of course, it would be strange to expect wooden doors to last so long, wouldn't it?
It was getting harder and harder to go down in the underground city and it was getting harder to hear the head guide's voice. Not only because of the distance but also because there was no signal in the city. Since I had some difficulty in this regard, I wanted to speed up and get closer to the guide, but I couldn't get past the other guide candidates. I mean, at least I was able to get close enough to hear the guide's voice in a normal way, of course.
I was very interested in the places where they used to put lights/candles. I wonder how they could illuminate this buried city, which is normally quite dark. At the same time, our chief guide mentioned that the people living here suffer from diseases caused by vitamin D deficiency because they do not see the sun. He also mentioned that their bones are weak in relation to vitamin D and the new generation is quite short and weak. While we are on the subject, please do not skimp on your vitamins and if you are taking vitamin D supplements, take a walk for at least 20 minutes immediately afterwards to increase absorption. You will benefit more from seeing the sun with this vitamin.
Look how dark it is. I couldn't even take a proper photo of myself... I guess the museum director or whatever you call it, the person who made them ignored people's views 😂😂😂 But don't get me wrong, please don't get me wrong, there were times when I had to use my own phone light as I went down, I was a little annoyed. I'm not a person with good night vision.
This place also has a winery 😁 Of course not without wine. I'm not surprised at all. And since there was a lot of talk about wine at the same time, we can say that it was a perfect fit.
This stone they use for copper working is very different from the others. If I remember correctly, this place is lower than the others. Towards the end. Copper was really valuable at that time and I think they kept it as well as possible.
It was difficult to go up and down the stairs you see on the right because we had already been walking around with our heads down for a while, we had passed through difficult and narrow areas, especially for me, my back was starting to ache. Coming here was not a meal for every brave man. Physically, you need to be at your best to be able to travel around the Central Anatolia region.
I would like to add that there are some stereotypical content production points such as the GIF you see above. Your guides usually tell you these and give you time. Of course, you can apply this idea everywhere, but it is very difficult to get the same effect. I really realised that lighting is a big problem. Especially when you come with a group, it is difficult to progress and do what you want because you do not have much time.
Frankly, I would like to come here without being in a group and produce content. It would be nice to be able to put the lights I want where I want, when I want.
After leaving here, we got back in the cars to go to Göreme Open Air Museum, but before reaching Göreme we had a break. At this break point, we were continuing to shoot videos of our reaction, as was necessary at the time, in order to protest against the new law on Tourism Guiding, which has now been passed, but whose implementation has huge problems.
We love our country very much, our love is guidance!
We still continue to condemn this law, which destroys the future of more than 100 people on this educational trip alone.
After this video shooting, everyone again and again discussed the absurdity of the law, and I think that it will be difficult for the law that accepts to make the departments such as art history, which are only related to history, as guides, to fall off the tongue, we got on the buses and headed towards Göreme.
The balloons, which are usually launched at sunrise, started to descend slowly.
At that time, I was told that there were usually training trips in the rising balloons. I think you need to have about 100 hours of experience in the air. Of course, this number of hours can change, this was the information that our head guide told me.
Göreme Open Air Museum
This place is huge!!! It can take you a whole day to walk around on your own without knowing it, or even 2-3 days if you want to examine each church in detail. Since we did not listen to the history we know many times, we travelled quickly. Our main purpose here, at least mine, was to see the points we saw from books and photographs in order to make sense of them in our minds.
Here we can see the biblical scenes in the churches in Göreme Open Air Museum. Since photography is forbidden inside the churches, they put such an information board outside and I think they did the best thing they could do.

Some churches were difficult to ascend and descend. Since the volcanic tuff you see here is easy to erode, the steps have become very steep little slopes rather than flattened steps. Anyway, one of the biggest reasons for the formation of fairy chimneys is that basalt does not wear out easily from natural conditions and volcanic tuff wears out easily. The involvement of fairies in this business is a completely different situation.
As the place of fairies in Turkic Mythology leads to this name, there are of course rumours that the tiny people who show the way are believed to be fairies. It is also a name that comes from the fact that the houses are in these tuffs and they look like chimneys.

Hem bugün sizinle harika bir yere gidiyoruz. Fiziksel özelliklerimden ve hastalıklarımdan dolayı kendime inanmadığım bir noktada baş rehberimizin de yardımı ile ilerlediğim bir yere gidiyoruz. Yerleşime ulaştığınızda karşınıza çıkan ilk şeylerden biri Kaymaklı Yemek Sanatları binası oluyor.
Genel olarak "Peri Bacaları" otantik düşüncesine uyan bir yapı ayrıca eski dönem mimarisini de anımsatıyor. Cumhuriyet öncesi yapı demekte bence bir sakınca yok. Çevrede bulunan duvarların üzerine harika resimler yapılmış.
Türkiye'deki diğer ünlü ve bu taraflara o kadar da uzak olmaya kısımlarının resimleri yapılmış. Burada Aspendos Antik Kenti en çok dikkatimi çeken şey oldu çünkü daha oraya gitme şansını bulamadım. Akdeniz bölgesini de gezebilmeyi, keşfedilmeyi çok istiyorum.
Buradan ilerisi çok kalabalık olduğundan fotoğraf çekmek istemedim fakat o kısımlarda hediyelik eşya satıcıları bulunuyor. Açıkçası çok pahalı, el işçiliği olabileceğini elbette ben de biliyorum ama 5 cm'den uzun olmayan bir sıcak hava balonu biblosuna da 700 TL vermek istemiyorum. Yerli turist için gereğinden çok fazla pahalı ki bence bunu USD'ye çevirdiğimizde, 20.26 USD, yabancı turist için de pahalı.
Kaymaklı için girişi doğru ilerlediğimizde Turizm Bakanlığı onayımız olmasına rağmen biraz sorun çıkardıklarını hatırlıyorum. Bu yüzden de baş rehberimiz haber bekleyip zaman kaybetmektense, çünkü ziyaret edeceğimiz alanlar sadece yürüyüş için ve çok büyükler, herkesin müze kartı iler girebileceğini söyledi ve bu şekilde ilerledik.
Bu kısımlarda ilerlerken herhangi bir sorun yaşamadım. Sanırım bu kısımlarda biraz daha uzun insanlar kalıyordu ya da gıda getirildiği için olabildiğince büyük yapmışlar. Kapı gibi oymalardan 2 kişi geçebildik diye hatırlıyorum. Genelde ben bunu yapmamaya çalıştım çünkü büyük beden olmanın çekinceleri vardı üzerimde. Olabildiğince rehberi duyarak arkadan gelmeye çalıştım diğer uzun ve benim bedenime yakın arkadaşlar ile.
Genelde kısa insanlar ile dalga geçilirken burada uzunlar ile şakalar yapıldı. Hatta bu şekilde arkada kalarak birkaç arkadaş dahi edindim. Yani otobüste benden uzakta oturdukları için çok iletişim kuramadığım insanlarla biraz daha yakınlaşma şansım oldu.
Burada mutfağa, kilere ve küçük odalar denk geldik. Anladığım kadarıyla o zamanlarda bulunan ama şimdi olmayan bir şey varmış: Kapı! Tabii tahta kapıların bu kadar uzun süre dayanmasını beklemek garip olurdu değil mi?
Yeraltı şehrinde aşağıya inmek gittikçe zorlaşmaya başlamıştı ve başrehberin sesini duymak zorlaşıyordu. Sadece mesafeden dolayı değil ayrıca şehirde sinyalin çekmemesinde dolayı da. Bu konuda biraz zorluk yaşadığımdan hızlanıp rehberin yanına yaklaşmak istedim ama bir türlü diğer rehber adaylarını da geçemedim. Yani en azından normal bir şekilde rehberin sesini duyabileceğim kadar yaklaşabildim elbette.
İlerlerken eskiden ışıkları/mumlaru koydukları yerler çok ilgimi çekti. Normalde de oldukça karanlık olan bu gömülü şehri nasıl iyi aydınlatabildiler acaba? Aynı zamanda da baş rehberimiz burada yaşayan insanların güneş görmedikleri için D vitamini eksikliğinden kaynaklanan hastalıklara yakalandıklarınından bahsetti. Ayrıca yine D vitamini ile ilgili olarak kemiklerinin zayıf olduğundan ve yeni neslinde oldukça kısa ve zayıf olduğundan da bahsetti. Konusu açılmışken de lütfen vitaminlerinizi eksik etmeyin ve eğer D vitamini takviyesi alıyorsanız emilimini artırmak için hemen sonrasında en az 20 dakikalık bir yürüyüşe çıkın. Güneşi görmek ile siz daha çok faydası olacak bu vitaminin.
Baksanıza ne kadar karanlık. Doğru düzgün bir fotoğrafımı bile çekememişim... Müze yöneticisi ya da ne derseniz, bunları yapan kişi insanların görüşünü yok saymış sanırım 😂😂 Ama beni yanlış da anlamayın lütfen sadece aşağı indikçe kendi telefon ışığımı kullanmak zorunda kaldığım zamanlar da oldu buna biraz gıcık oldum. Gece görüşü iyi olan birisi değilim.
Buranın bir de Şaraphane'si varmış 😁 Şarap olmadan olmaz tabii ki. Hiç de şaşırmadım. Bir de aynı zamanlarda çok fazla şaraptan bahsedildiğinden olsa gerek tam uydu diyebiliriz.
Bakır işlemek için kullandıkları bu taş diğerlerinden çok daha farklı. Burası yanlış hatırlamıyorsam diğer yerlere göre daha dipte. Sonlara doğru. O zaman bakır gerçekten değerliydi ve olaibldiğince iyi bir şekilde saklıyorlardı sanırım.
Sağ tarafta gördüğünüz merdivenleri inip çıkmak ise zordu çünkü zaten bir süredir kafamızı eğip de dolaşıyorduk, zorlu ve dar alanlardan geçmiştik, özellikle de benim için, belim ağrımaya başlamıştı. Eklemek isterim ki yukarıda gördüğünüz GIF gibi bazı kalıplaşmış içerik üretme noktaları var. Bunları rehberleriniz siz genelde söylüyor ve size zaman veriyor. Tabii bu fikri her yerde uygulayabilirsiniz ama aynı etkiyi almak çok zor. Işıklandırmalar çok büyük sıkıntıymış bunu anladım gerçekten. Özellikle de grupla geldiğinizde çok zamanınız olmadığı için ilerlemek ve istediğinizi yapabilmek de zor.
Açıkçası buraya bir grup içerisinde olmadan gelmek ve içerik üretmek isterim. İstediğim ışıkları istediğim yerelere, istediğim zamanda koyabilmek güzel olurdu.
Buradan çıktıktan sonra Göreme Açık Hava Müzesi'ne gitmek için arabalara tekrar bindik ama Göreme'ye ulaşmadan önce bir mola verdik. Bu mola noktasında, o zamanda gereken bir şekilde, şu anda kabul edilmiş fakat uygulamasında çok büyük sorunlar olan Turizm Rehberliği ile ilgili yeni yasayı protesto edebilmek için tepkimizi gösteren videolar çekmeye devam ediyorduk.

Bu video çekiminden sonra ise herkes yine ve yine yasanın saçmalığını tartışarak ki sanat tarihi gibi rehberlik ile alâkasının sadece tarih olduğu bölümleri rehber yapabilmeyi kabul eden yasanın dilden düşmesi zor olur diye düşünüyorum, otobüslere binip Göreme'ye doğru ilerledik.
Genelde gün doğumunda havalandırılan balonlar yavaş yavaş aşağıya inmeye başlamıştı.
O sırada yükselen balonlarda ise genelde eğitim gezisi yapıldığı söylendi. Yaklaşık 100 saat kadar havada kalma tecrübenizin olması gerekiyormuş sanırım. Tabii bu saat sayısı değişebilir, bana da baş rehberimizin söylediği bir bilgi idi.
Göreme Açık Hava Müzesi
Burası çok büyük!! Tek başınıza bilmeden dolaşmak bütün gününüzü hatta her kiliseyi detaylıca incelemk isterseniz 2-3 gününüzü alabilir. Biz bildiğimiz tarihi defalarca dinlemediğimizden dolayı hızlı bir şekilde gezdik. Buradaki, en azından benim, asıl amacımız kitaplardan ve fotoğraflardan gördüğümüz noktaları kafamızda anlamdırabilmek için görebilmekti.
Burada ise Göreme Açık Hava Müzesi'nde bulunan kiliselerin içerisinde yer alan İncil sahnelerini görebiliyoruz. Kiliselerin içerisinde fotoğraf çekimi yasak olduğundan dolayı dışarıya böyle bir bilgilendirme tahtası koymuşlar ve bence yapılabilecek en iyi şeyi yapmışlar.
Ayrıca Göreme'deki kiliselerin isimlerini de sizinle paylaşmak isterim.

Türk Mitolojisi'nde perilerin yeri bu isme yol açtığı gibi yolu gösteren minik insanların peri olduğuna inandıkları rivayetleri de var elbette. Ayrıca evlerin de bu tüflerin içerisinde olması ve bacaya benzemeleri ile gelen bir isim.
