Until Then, Siargao: Our Last Day of Island Adventures

Once we were all washed up from our island-hopping adventure, we got ready to head to Catangnan Bridge since it was still super early to cap the day.

Catangnan Bridge is located a few kilometers from Cloud9. It serves as a shortcut from Brgy. Catangnan to the other part of Siargao. Though just a normal concrete bridge, it has become a tourist spot over the years, despite not being finished initially. People flock there to witness the stunning Siargao sunset. Recently, food stalls have lined up on one side of the entrance on the Catangnan side, catering to tourists (AFAMs) who come to enjoy the sunset and jump off the bridge into the water.

When we arrived, it was still early; the sun was up, but the horizon looked super gloomy. A few locals were there, but no AFAMs in sight.

Since we were already there, we seized the opportunity to do some random photoshoots.

Some local boys were enjoying jumping in and out of the water. Nobody from our group dared to jump; it was too high, and there were no stairs for climbing back onto the bridge—you just had to climb onto the cemented wall in the shallower part of the water.

As time passed, stalls began to fill up the other side of the road, offering classic Filipino street foods like Tempura, Fishball, Kwek-kwek, Lumpia, Dynamite, and other deep-fried foods on sticks. There were also stalls selling foods like corndogs, fish cakes, crab meat, and other international options like Pad-Thai. Some stalls even sold Iced Coffee, which I didn't try.

It seems they have everything there, so you won't go hungry when visiting Catangnan Bridge.

As we munched on food while squatting and sitting on the curbside, AFAMs started flocking to the place. Some of our friends even spotted a famous influencer, whose name I don't know or recognize. 😆

Minutes went by, and the dark clouds on the horizon grew larger. There was no sunset in sight. In fact, it started getting dimmer, eventually leading to a heavy rain.

We ran for our lives, seeking shelter in some establishments near the bridge's entrance. We waited there for the rain to pass. Thirty minutes later, it hadn't stopped. When it was drizzling a bit, we immediately drove home before it could rain hard again.

We went home to change and prepare for the birthday dinner of the December celebrants.

We had originally planned to dine at Kermit Siargao, and that's what we did. After changing outfits, we immediately headed out to find a tricycle that would take us to the restaurant. It's near our accommodation, just a few blocks away, but the roads are quite bumpy, with large potholes filled with water from the earlier rain.

We hadn't made any reservations, but fortunately, there was a vacant table that fit us all.

The ambiance was great, capturing the island vibe with an interior reminiscent of a Filipino hut, complete with bamboo and a nipa roof, all complemented by warm lighting for a visually aesthetic touch.

We waited for others to arrive and then ordered from the menu. We had initially planned to buy a cake, as I had been looking around since we arrived in Siargao. We found a shop on the main road and one on Facebook but ended up not buying one due to some unfortunate events that I prefer not to share.

We asked the waiter if they had cakes readily available. Although they didn't, he mentioned we could order a small moist chocolate cake, so that's what we did.

For dinner, I ordered their Papardelle Bolognese, not sure what to expect. However, when it was served, I was pleasantly surprised.

J-Ann ordered a pizza for sharing, as she couldn't eat all of it by herself. My dish was delicious, far exceeding my expectations, and my friends felt the same about their orders. The servings were generous, neatly plated, and garnished.

Overall, our experience at Kermit was outstanding, likely why it comes highly recommended online. It was the perfect birthday dinner to cap off our Siargao adventure.

BUT WE WEREN'T DONE YET! I thought our Siargao adventure had concluded, but due to some unfortunate events prior to our dinner, we decided to check out the party scene one last time to elevate our mood.

Jovy checked the schedule for that night's party, and we immediately went to a place called HARANA, a Surf School.

We arrived early, and the party hadn't started yet. We tried to find a table, but all were taken. However, we ordered drinks anyway. Once the disco party started, we positioned ourselves near the DJ and just stood there. I'm not really into parties, so I stood there with John and @ybanezkim26, while @iamcjestrada, @thestrollingmind, Jovy, and J-Ann danced through the crowd.

One of our friends, who had drunk too much (I won't name names here, HAHA), was pulled by one of the AFAMs onto the dance floor and then to the beach. We managed to find them before things escalated further.

It was a fun experience, and we also got to meet some local Bisaya tourists. We stayed until the party ended. There was another party at a different location, but we decided it was late and time to call it a night.

The next morning, we decided to stroll around and buy souvenirs. @iamcjestrada decided to get a tattoo on his wrist. I also considered getting one but decided against it. Maybe someday when I find the perfect design.

After checking out of our accommodation, we looked for a place to have lunch. We returned to the place where we ate on our first day - Derecho.

It was still early for our flight, so we decided to wait for the van that would take us to the airport at Spotted Pig, a nearby cafe.

Then came the moment of truth: it was time to go home.

We arrived at the airport at 2:30 PM for our 3:34 PM flight.

I had been dreaming of visiting Siargao for the longest time. Finally making it happen filled me with indescribable happiness. Although it wasn't a perfect vacation due to some circumstances, I still thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

I hope to return to Siargao someday for more positive memories, hopefully with a different group of people.
