Today, we will be exploring another place in Indonesia, and that's Yogyakarta! Yogyakarta is a very interesting city because there are a lot of heritage stuff within the city, and of course, the first post will be about one of its main attractions, Borobudur!
Borobudur is the world's largest Buddhist temple and many visitors travel to Yogyakarta see this site. It is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This was the entrance when we stepped into the compound. As you can see, it was very well maintained.
It's always nice to see mountains in the distance as we made our way in.
It was still drizzling when we were there, so everyone was still holding umbrellas! After a short walk, the temple was in sight!

And we reached! Everyone was entering from the east gateway and ascending the temple. It was very crowded and the umbrellas just added another dimension to this historical site.
Because my earlier shot wasn't able to capture the entire stretch of the temple, this was the side view.
Alright, it's time for some exercise as we headed up stairs after stairs.
There were many layers to the temple and we also took the opportunity to explore the individual layers and there were lesser people actually. Most people seemed to be heading up to get the panoramic views.
Look how far we have climbed! From this angle, we could see the gardens in front of the temple as well. That's where we came from at the beginning.
We finally reached the top!
Just look at the views!!! The views were definitely worth it for the short climb!
I remembered just standing and admiring the scenery. It was really all about soaking in the zen-ness of the temple and the beauty of the mountains in the background. Even though it was crowded and everyone was busy taking photos, the zen-ness of the place was still there and it was really a wonder to me.
Finally it was time to make our way down. On our way down, I also saw all these amazing carvings on the sides of the temple. It's amazing how much effort went into these stuff.

And finally, we were back to the foot of the temple! No wonder this is the world's biggest Buddhist temple! Just look at the size, and compare it to the humans in the photo.
This was definitely a memorable visit on many levels. The temple itself was an eye-opener, in terms of its structures and its mega size. But the best part has to be the atmosphere of this entire place. It felt so special and historical and I am sure I could never find something like this anywhere else in the world!
