Jan Hus Trail / Jakobsweg - From Ulm to Äpfingen (GER) / Day 18

Welcome to the next continuation of the recording of my journey in the footsteps of Jan Hus from Prague to Constance. In previous installments we have already moved from Bavaria to Baden-Württemberg. And today we will continue in this federal state more and more towards the south, where the path of St. James leads.

Vítejte u dalšího pokračování záznamu mojí cesty ve stopách Jana Husa z Prahy do Kostnice. V minulých dílech jsme se již přesunuli z Bavorska do Badenska-Württeberska. A dnes budeme v této spolkové zemi pokračovat stále více směrem na jih, kam stezka Svatého Jakuba vede.

The first 10 kilometers of the day were marked by rain and the path around the industrial zones that lie on the banks of the Danube, so for these two reasons I did not take photos and enjoyed a quiet Sunday morning. Only after the town of Erbach did I come across the first interesting building. There was a castle above the city.

Prvních 10 kilometrů dne bylo ve znamení deště a cesty kolem průmyslových zón, které leží na břehu Dunaje, takže z těchto dvou důvodů jsem nefotil a užíval si klidné nedělní ráno. Teprve za městem Erbach jsem narazil na první zajímavou stavbu. Byl tu zámek nad městem.

Next to the castle stood a church with a spring called Pilgerbrunnen. I replenished my water supply and set off again. At the nearby cemetery, I used the public toilets where I got a little cultured. And as soon as I left the place, the first contact came. I was stopped by an old woman on an electric bike, estimated to be over 70 years old. She started asking me if I was going the Way of St. James. I didn't want explain her that I was following the path of Jan Hus, so I told her that I was. But I will end up in Constance. She immediately started telling me how she went from France to Spain when she was younger and now she only rides a bicycle. Despite her age, she covered 80 km a day. After about 10 minutes we said goodbye and I continued on.

Vedle zámku stál i kostel u kterého byl pramen jmenující se Pilgerbrunnen. Doplnil jsem zásoby vody a vyrazil opět na cestu. Na nedalekém hřbitově jsem využil veřejné toalety, kde jsem se trochu zkulturnil. A jakmile jsem místo opustil. Přišel první kontakt. Zastavila u mě stará žena na elektrokole, odhadem přes 70 let. Začala se mě vyptávat zda jdu Svatojakubskou cestu. Nechtělo se mi vysvětlovat, že jdu stezku Jana Husa a tak jsem jí řekl, že ano . Jenže budu končit v Kostnici. Ihned mi začala vyprávět jak šla z Francie do Španělska když byla mladší a že teď jezdí jen na kole. Přes svůj věk překonávala 80 km denně. Asi po 10 minutách jsme se rozloučili a já pokračoval dále.

The weather was starting to improve and the fields were starting to get warm. So I was making plans at Sunday I could have a freer day.

Počasí se začalo vylepšovat a v polích začínalo být teplo. Tak jsem začal spřádat plány, že když je neděle. Mohl bych si udělat volnější den.

After the village of Oberdischingen I headed towards the Danube again. Here is the river already really narrow and it took me no more than a minute to cross it on the bridge. Just across the river is a village called Ersingen, where I was greeted by an open restaurant.

Za obcí Oberdischingen jsem opět zamířil k Dunaji. Zde je řeka již opravdu úzká a překonat mi jí po mostě netrvalo dále než minutu. Hned za řekou je vesnice jménem Ersingen, kde mě přivítala otevřená restaurace.

After a week I finally got around to it, I had a normal cooked meal, which was excellent by the way, and a Gold Ochsen beer on top. I had a bottled one in Ulm the day before, but the draft was even better. Even the owner of the restaurant came to ask if everything was okay. This is what a functioning business should look like.

Po týdnu jsem se konečně dočkal. Dal jsem si normální uvařené jídlo, které bylo mimochodem excelentní a k tomu točené pivo značky Gold Ochsen. Předchozí den jsem měl jedno lahvové v Ulmu, ale točené bylo ještě lepší. Dokonce i majitel restaurace se přišel optat zda je vše v pořádku. Tak má vypadat fungující podnik.

When I had spoiled myself with Sunday lunch, I thought that I could take advantage of the hot day to take a bath in the nearby flooded gravel quarry. I found the place where the beach was marked on the map and headed there. I ended up spending over 2 hours here soaking in clear water. It definitely helped me after a week of hot weather to have a good wash.

Když už jsem se rozmazlil nedělním obědem, řekl jsem si že bych horkého dne mohl využít ke koupeli v nedalekém zatopeném štěrkovém lomu. Našel jsem si v mapě místo, kde byla vyznačená pláž a tam zamířil. Nakonec jsem zde strávil přes 2 hodiny namočený v čisté vodě. Rozhodně mi pomohlo, se po týdnu horkého počasí pořádně se umýt.

Then I had a long journey through flat agricultural land. Sometimes I read the protest posters of local farmers. Even if it doesn't look like it, their fight against the liquidation regulations of the European Union is not over. We'll see what they come up with again in the winter.

Pak mě čekala dlouhá cesta rovinatou zemědělskou krajinou. Občas jsem si přečetl protestní plakáty místních zemědělců. I když to tak nevypadá tak jejich boj proti likvidačním nařízením Evropské Unie neskončil. Uvidíme s čím přijdou opět v zimě.

And until the evening hours I continued through the swampy area to the village of Äpfingen. Where I once again explained what I do here to elderly cyclists. And then I headed to the place where the shelter was marked on the map. Which actually turned out to be a hunting lodge. Where two hunters were packing. So it looked like they were going home. The opposite was true, they were going to hunt. I was glad that I passed them and they knew I was moving in the forest. I settled in a visible place. The experience I gained during a winter attempt to cross Cyprus a few years ago. Where we had to deal with the hunters every day. After about 30 minutes, a shot rang out and I knew I could sleep peacefully.

A do večerních hodin jsem pokračoval přes bažinaté území do obce Äpfingen. Kde jsem opět vysvětloval co zde dělám postarším cyklistům. Zamířil jsem k místu kde byl v mapě značen přístřešek. Z něhož se ve skutečnosti vyklubala lovecká chata. Kde si dva lovci balili věci. Takže to vypadalo, že jedou domů. Opak byl pravdou. Chystali se na lov. Byl jsem rád, že jsem kolem nich prošel a oni věděli, že se v lese pohybuju. Ubytoval jsem se na viditelném místě. Zkušenost kterou jsem získal při zimním pokusu o přechod Kypru pár let zpátky. Kde jsme se s lovci museli potýkat každý den. Zhruba po 30 minutách se ozval výstřel a já věděl, že můžu v klidu usnout.
