Nothing is eternal. Everything has an end, although sometimes we don't want our favorite series to end, this time I think they both do at the right time. I had to wait a few days to be able to write about these the final seasons of Peaky Blinders and Killing Eve, because every time a series I follow ends, I go into a seriéfila hangover period.

He tenido que esperar unos días para poder escribir sobre estas las temporadas finales de Peaky Blinders y Killing Eve, porque cada vez que termina una serie que sigo, entro en un periodo de resaca seriéfila.
Peaky Blinders finale
Birmingham, 1920's, hundreds of working class people recovering from the First World War, an industrial city, where poverty is palpable in every corner, a horse rides through one of the streets, on the animal rides Tommy Shelby, leader of the criminal gang known as the Peaky Blenders. You can hear Rock music is played to emphasize the anachronism of the scene. Respect or fear? is what Tommy instills as he passes by.
It's been nine years since that first sequence that excited me, it was Steven Knight's new series, inspired by a criminal gang that existed in real life. I was immediately hooked, starting to get to know the Shelby gypsy clan in an incredible first season.
Impossible not to be fascinated by the performance of Cyllian Murphy, who gave such a defined personality to Tommy Shelby, making us love this criminal, who was relentless with his enemies. We learned to know him so well, that just a slight gesture is enough to know that Tommy was planning something big.
I had my moment of disappointment with the series. I think it was at the end of its third season. The adventures and conflicts Tommy was facing always came out easily, it gave me the feeling that all the danger would be resolved very simply at the end of each season, and I also felt that they were unnecessarily lengthening the series. I gave it up and didn't want to watch it anymore.
A long time passed, until I saw the news of the premiere of a fifth season. At that moment I decided to retake it, catching up with the fourth season, which I liked, the progress that the whole clan had achieved, the passage of time, the new characters, maintained the quality of the series, although I still felt that they were stretching the story too much, I always commented it to those who published about Peaky Blinders.

Han pasado nueve años desde aquella primera secuencia que me emocionó, era la nueva serie de Steven Knight, inspirada en una banda criminal que existió en la vida real. Me enganchó de inmediato, empezando a conocer al clan de gitanos Shelby en una primera temporada increíble.
Imposible no quedar fascinado por la actuación de Cyllian Murphy, que dio una personalidad tan definida a Tommy Shelby, haciéndonos amar a este criminal, que era implacable con sus enemigos. Aprendimos a conocerlo tan bien, que basta un leve gesto para saber que Tommy estaba planeando algo grande.
Tuve mi momento de decepción con la serie. Creo que fue al final de su tercera temporada. Las aventuras y los conflictos a los que se enfrentaba Tommy siempre salían con facilidad, me daba la sensación de que todo el peligro se resolvería muy simple al final de cada temporada, y además sentía que estaban alargando innecesariamente la serie. La dejé y no quise verla más.
Pasó mucho tiempo, hasta que vi la noticia del estreno de una quinta temporada. En ese momento decidí retomarla, poniéndome al día con la cuarta temporada, la cual me gustó, el avance que había logrado todo el clan, el paso del tiempo, los nuevos personajes, mantenía la calidad de la serie, aunque seguía sintiendo que estaban alargando demasiado la historia, siempre lo comentaba a los que publicaban sobre Peaky Blinders.
Tommy Shelby
I have no regrets about reencountering this series that I fell in love with in its early days. The fifth season, set in a time when the macabre ideas of the nascent Nazism were trying to spread throughout Europe, years before the coming apocalypse, finally provided Tommy Shelby with an antagonist who would hardly come out of that fight unscathed. Death was hot on the heels of several characters.
The end of that season left us with a scene in which we saw the most fragile and desperate Tommy. It was an excellent season, where everything seemed to have changed, plus another enemy flank opened, an internal war that Aunt Polly, matriarch of the clan, prophesied. A war between Tommy and Michael, where only one would come out alive.
The wait for the final season was long, and changes had to be made.... . Unfortunately, the actress Helen McCrory, who played Polly Gray, an important part of the Shelby clan, died after fighting until the last moment against cancer. A painful loss for the entire production.
The scriptwriters knew how to fit this fatal loss in the last season. Polly would not be physically in the last episodes, but her essence was always present until the last minutes. The actress could be happy, where her soul was, her character and the brief flashbacks showed a deep respect for her. She was a veteran actress, but we will always remember her as the spunky Polly Gray, who made her way in a male-dominated world.
The penultimate season had been a carousel of pain, this last one sharpened everything, pushing Tommy Shelby over the edge. Everything has a price in life. Money and power came at a high cost to Tommy. Past traumas from his involvement in the war were not enough. The death of his first wife, his true love, marked the beginning of Tommy Shelby's curse. A curse that each time took something away from him, but it is in this last season where the curse would take away the most important thing.

No me arrepiento de reencontrarme con esta serie que me enamoró en sus inicios. La quinta temporada, ambientada en una época en la que las macabras ideas del naciente nazismo intentaban extenderse por toda Europa, años antes del apocalipsis que se avecinaba, proporcionó por fin un antagonista a Tommy Shelby que difícilmente saldría indemne de esa lucha. La muerte le pisaba los talones a varios personajes.
El final de esa temporada nos dejó una escena en la que vimos al Tommy más frágil y desesperado. Fue una temporada excelente, donde todo parecía haber cambiado, además se abría otro flanco enemigo, una guerra interna que la tía Polly, matriarca del clan, profetizó. Una guerra entre Tommy y Michael, donde sólo uno saldría vivo.
La espera para la temporada final fue larga y hubo que hacer cambios... . Desgraciadamente, la actriz Helen McCrory, que interpretaba a Polly Gray, una parte importante del clan Shelby, murió tras luchar hasta el último momento contra el cáncer. Una dolorosa pérdida para toda la producción.
Los guionistas supieron encajar esta fatal pérdida en la última temporada. Polly no estaría físicamente en los últimos episodios, pero su esencia estuvo siempre presente hasta los últimos minutos. La actriz puede ser feliz, allí donde estaba su alma, su personaje y los breves flashbacks mostraban un profundo respeto por ella. We want everything to go as he has planned, but the curse that accompanies him, imposed by a gypsy woman in revenge for past deeds, is too strong. Besides, Polly's prophecy is going to come true, destiny has it written. Polly's tears at the moment of saying it, acquire greater meaning in the last episode.
Peaky Blinders said goodbye, it left us a great series, with its small ups and downs in some intermediate seasons, but it is indisputable quality, good scripts and a fabulous cast, completely devoted to their characters.
But what now? The series came to an end, from my point of view surpassing all my expectations. It was a perfect closure. But this doesn't mean we won't see Peaky Blinders again. The creator is going to prepare a movie, set several years after the end. Maybe in the middle of World War II. Two actors have already confirmed their participation, I will not say the names because it would be giving spoilers about a narrative arc of the last season. Don't Google for information either, be satisfied with knowing that they will make a movie and that not all the cast will be there, since all wars leave dead and not all Shelby's survive.

Tommy ha sido durante mucho tiempo un muerto en vida, sin casi nada que perder y mucho que ganar, soportará los embates de su trágico destino para lograr su objetivo. El cierre se ha empapado de mucho dolor, un dolor que compartimos con Tommy. Queremos que todo salga como él lo ha planeado, pero la maldición que le acompaña, impuesta por una gitana en venganza por hechos del pasado, es demasiado fuerte. Además, la profecía de Polly se va a cumplir, el destino lo tiene escrito. Las lágrimas de Polly en el momento de decirlo, adquieren mayor significado en el último episodio.
Peaky Blinders dijo adios, nos dejó una gran serie, con sus pequeños altibajos en algunas temporadas intermedias, pero es indiscutible la calidad , buenos guiones y un reparto fabuloso, completamente entregado a sus personajes.
¿Y ahora qué? La serie llegó a su fin, desde mi punto de vista superando todas mis expectativas. Fue un cierre perfecto. Pero esto no significa que no vayamos a ver nuevamente a los Peaky Blinders. El creador va a preparar una película, ambientada varios años después del final. Quizá en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial. Ya han confirmado su participación dos actores, no diré los nombres porque sería dar spoilers sobre un arco narrativo de la última temporada. Tampoco busques información en Google, confórmate con saber que harán una película y que no estará todo el reparto, ya que todas las guerras dejan muertos y no todos los Shelby sobreviven.

Killing Eve's end
Created by the successful Phoebe Waller-Bridge, no one doubts that the first season of Killing Eve was a marvel. Spies, secret organizations, lethal assassins, a strange attraction between Eva Polastri who starts working for MI6 and the funniest assassin in recent years: Villanelle. The whole story is loaded with a good dose of humor.
Fans are also aware that this story was to be told in a maximum of two seasons, but money, blessed money. The series was a total success and they stretched it too long. The third season already seemed like a kind of parody of the series itself.
I remember I did my review of that season a while back. I felt a bit annoyed because it was evident that the story didn't give for more, it was necessary to give it a definitive closure.
I'm not going to complain either because I became a big fan of Jodie Cormer thanks to this series. As I said before, I can't stand Sandra Oh, my reason to keep watching Killing Eve was only because of the character played by Jodie Cormer: the bloodthirsty and crazy killer Villanelle.
I don't think I'm wrong in saying that most of those who kept watching the series was to enjoy Villanelle's every moment on screen, whether it was sporting one of her outlandish costumes or killing all of her targets in the most ingenious ways. Sometimes she even did it for the sheer pleasure of killing.
Yes, she's a total psycho, but at the same time she's so much fun that you'll enjoy many of those scenes, because we adore Villanelle.
Four seasons. The current showrunners made a wise decision. This story had to end. When telling a joke, if you take too long to tell it, it loses all the funny. That was happening to the series. That's why I was grateful that this fourth season was the last.
Creada por la exitosa Phoebe Waller-Bridge, nadie duda de que la primera temporada de Killing Eve fue una maravilla. Espías, organizaciones secretas, asesinos letales, una extraña atracción entre Eva Polastri que empieza a trabajar para el MI6 y la asesina más divertida de los últimos años: Villanelle. Toda la historia está cargada de una buena dosis de humor.
Los fans también son conscientes de que esta historia se iba a contar en un máximo de dos temporadas, pero el dinero, el bendito dinero. La serie fue un éxito total y la alargaron en exceso. La tercera temporada ya parecía una especie de parodia de la propia serie.
Recuerdo que hice mi crítica de esa temporada hace un tiempo. Me sentí un poco molesto porque era evidente que la historia no daba para más, era necesario darle un cierre definitivo.
Tampoco me voy a quejar porque me hice muy fan de Jodie Cormer gracias a esta serie. Como he dicho antes, no soporto a Sandra Oh, mi razón para seguir viendo Killing Eve era sólo por el personaje interpretado por Jodie Cormer: la sanguinaria y loca asesina Villanelle.
No creo que me equivoque al decir que la mayoría de los que siguieron viendo la serie fue para disfrutar de cada momento de Villanelle en pantalla, ya fuera luciendo uno de sus estrafalarios disfraces o matando a todos sus objetivos de las formas más ingeniosas. A veces incluso lo hacía por el mero placer de matar.
Sí, es una psicópata total, pero al mismo tiempo es tan divertida que disfrutarás de muchas de esas escenas, porque adoramos a Villanelle.
Cuatro temporadas. Los actuales showrunners tomaron una sabia decisión. Esta historia tenía que terminar. Al contar un chiste, si tardas demasiado en hacerlo, pierde toda la gracia. Eso le estaba pasando a la serie. Por eso agradecí que esta cuarta temporada fuera la última.
Villanelle
The fight against the organization called The Twelve continues, but this time we will see its origins. Carolyn must play well the cards she has in her hand, after the events of the end of the third season, she has only one option, to become a traitor. A fantastic Fiona Shaw who from previous seasons was a delight to watch, with her phrases full of irony and sarcasm, which make us laugh. As a good spy, there are still things she has not told, we will witness that past that will give us surprises.
Attraction, friendship, desire and love. That strange relationship between Eve and Villanelle, in which they have tried to kill each other, leaving each of them scars that will unite them forever. What is this relationship? Is there really a future for these two women? These are questions that haunt the series from the beginning. Both have inflicted a lot of damage on each other, but deep down there is a love that is about to explode. A volcano of long-contained emotions.
A bloody kiss. A moment of intimacy where both radiate happiness. Stabbings, shootings and betrayals seem to come to an end. Both have been on the brink of death many times and when you always play with the same strategy, it tires the viewer. It was time for a definitive ending.
Is it a satisfying ending? I can't answer you exactly. I felt a relief, because the ending was something necessary. For a long time the series has been screaming to the writers: "Finish the story now!
Without spoilers, I can only say to those who haven't seen it, it's very bittersweet. Many fans of the series will end up like in that last scene before the sign announcing the end. They will cry in pain, because everything could have ended differently, but you have to understand that great love stories are actually a tragedy.
What's after the end? Some fans hold out hope that they will make a movie, but the two leading actresses have completely ruled it out. This is the end, there is no turning back. But that doesn't mean we won't see the universe in which the series takes place again. It has been confirmed that they are preparing a spin off of Killing Eve, but focused on Carolyn. I don't know if it will be set in the present or in the past, they may alternate eras.
I was a little hurt by the ending. It always happens to me when a series I like and with characters I love ends, but for the sake of the story, it was necessary. I will always remember Villanelle's character, especially in one of the beautiful scenes in the final episode.

Como buena espía, todavía hay cosas que no ha contado, seremos testigos de ese pasado que nos dará sorpresas.
La atracción, la amistad, el deseo, el amor. Esa extraña relación entre Eve y Villanelle, en la que han intentado matarse mutuamente, dejando cada una de ellas cicatrices que las unirán para siempre. ¿Qué es esta relación? ¿Hay realmente un futuro para estas dos mujeres? Son preguntas que rondan la serie desde el principio. Ambas se han infligido mucho daño, pero en el fondo hay un amor que está a punto de estallar. Un volcán de emociones largamente contenidas.
Un beso. Un momento de intimidad donde ambos irradian felicidad. Las puñaladas, los disparos y las traiciones parecen llegar a su fin. Ambos han estado al borde de la muerte muchas veces y cuando se juega siempre con la misma estrategia, se cansa al espectador. Era el momento de un final definitivo.
¿Es un final satisfactorio? No puedo responderte exactamente. Sentí un alivio, porque el final era algo necesario. Durante mucho tiempo la serie ha estado gritando a los guionistas: "¡Termina la historia ya!
Sin spoilers, sólo puedo decir a los que no la han visto, que es muy agridulce. Muchos seguidores de la serie acabarán como en esa última escena antes del cartel que anuncia el final. Llorarán de dolor, porque todo podría haber acabado de otra manera, pero hay que entender que las grandes historias de amor son en realidad una tragedia.
¿Qué hay después del final? Algunos fans mantienen la esperanza de que hagan una película, pero las dos actrices protagonistas lo han descartado por completo. Este es el final, no hay vuelta atrás. Pero eso no significa que no vayamos a ver de nuevo el universo en el que se desarrolla la serie. Se ha confirmado que están preparando un spin off de Killing Eve, pero centrado en Carolyn. No sé si estará ambientado en el presente o en el pasado, puede que alternen épocas.
Me ha dolido un poco el final. Siempre me pasa cuando termina una serie que me gusta y con personajes que me encantan, pero por el bien de la historia, era necesario. Siempre recordaré al personaje de Villanelle, especialmente en una de las bonitas escenas del episodio final.

We say goodbye to Peaky Blinders and Killing Eve, they are part of the history of the series, each had success and a strong fan base. They were very different series but both gave us memorable moments. That's how I like to remember series when they are definitely over. Maybe some subplots were not very good, I even stopped watching for a while, only to come back and continue to enjoy those unforgettable characters. Also, the good news is the Peaky Blinders movie and the spinoff of Killing Eve. The universe of both series will continue, with new characters and new stories.

Nos despedimos de Peaky Blinders y Killing Eve, forman parte de la historia de las series, cada una tuvo éxito y una fuerte base de fans. Eran series muy diferentes pero ambas nos dieron momentos memorables. Así es como me gusta recordar las series cuando terminan definitivamente. Quizás algunas subtramas no fueron muy buenas, incluso dejé de verlas por un tiempo, para luego volver y seguir disfrutando de esos personajes inolvidables. Además, las buenas noticias son la película de Peaky Blinders y el spinoff de Killing Eve. El universo de ambas series continuará, con nuevos personajes y nuevas historias.
