To be honest, I’ve largely sat out the incredible bull run of the last decade. While others enjoyed compounding gains, I was focused on something else—my balance sheet. I spent those years shoring up my financial foundation, managing leverage, and prioritizing liquidity and flexibility over market exposure. I don’t regret it. But yes, the opportunity cost has been real. Watching markets surge while standing on the sidelines hasn’t always been easy.
Now, things are starting to shift.
With my balance sheet in a stronger position, I can finally start to consider re-entering the market—not out of FOMO, but with purpose. It’s not about trying to time the bottom. Frankly, I expect more pain ahead. The uncertainty across the political and economic landscape, both in the U.S. and globally, is significant. Headwinds are gathering, and volatility is likely far from over.
But even in that turbulence, there’s a certain clarity. The froth is being shaken out. Bubbles—particularly in overhyped sectors or speculative corners of the market—are deflating. And in their place, some truly resilient businesses with strong fundamentals are starting to trade at prices that actually make sense for a long-term investor.
This isn’t a sprint. I’m not going all in overnight. Instead, I plan to dip my toes in slowly, scaling in thoughtfully as opportunities emerge. My age and financial positioning give me the luxury of a long-term outlook—and in this environment, that’s one of the most valuable tools an investor can have.
I expect to feel uncomfortable at first. It may feel like catching a falling knife. But that discomfort is often where the best opportunities are found. It’s where those with conviction, patience, and “diamond hands” can plant seeds that grow over time.
So while the market may be down, my optimism is quietly rising. Not because I think the worst is over—but because I finally have the chance to participate in the next chapter of growth, on my own terms.
